I totally agree, it would make all classes equal for a wee bit on t start ;) and every1 who's been complaining about its too easy to farm with free set would b happy or moaning even more cos they have to farm more;) but it's looks like blizzard completely 4got about blackthorne....

Definitely not happy. Those who complain about gift most often are complaining that everyone ELSE got it too even if that's not the words they use.

posted a message on Crusader feels like a caster in tank gear, help me make him more melee
I admit I'm not 70 yet, but at 65 I can't see the last passive or the other runes for bombardment changing my build much. It's a melee build that summons support to deal more damage. I like to think of myself as a commander that gets into the thick of things with his troops :D

I won't promise this spec is good, but it works for me most of the time and the alternative attacks have helped me the rest.

I use this build http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/crusader#bcPhQf!VdW!Ybabab Sometimes I switch Sweeping Attack - Holy Shock out for Blessed Shield - Diving Aegis and Slash - Zeal for Justice Hammer of pursuit if I feel the need to have ranged for a fight (Malthael looking at you...).

Passives I chose: Indistructible and Divine Fortress to make myself a bit more tankish. Holy Cause for Healing and a bit of damage. I plan to use Vigilant or Heavenly Strength depending on what weapons I find when I hit 70.

    Skills:

Slash - Zeal: Attack speed + holy damage to proc the Healing off of Holy Cause works well for me.
Ranged Alternative: Justice - Hammer of Pursuit: Some enemy packs have just been too much for me in melee so then I whip this out, stronger than the others and less likely to miss because its moving. Procs Holy Cause

Sweep Attack - Holy Shock: Damage and healing
Ranged Alternative: Blessed Shield - Divine Aegis: The extra armor and life regen help and I never really liked the other runes. Procs Holy Cause

Phalanx - Bowmen: I used to have Condemn here, but bowmen were much better on elites/rares and I'm pretty capable of handling little guys myself.

Falling Sword - Rise Brothers: Decent damage, and keeps with the minion theme.

Akarat's Champion - Fire Starter: Attack Speed bonus plus fire damage means everything around me dies and I heal a ton shortly after popping this. If they don't I still have the revive just in case for the time its active.

Law of Valor - Critical: Extra attack speed means more healing and the damage doesn't hurt either :P

You are referring to a smoke test.. And the REAL industry term is HAPPY PATH.

Anyways... a good QA team will do risk based testing, partial regression and full added funtionality testing. Blizz obviously does automated regression for UI elements, and manual testing on anything random.
Hmm for us a smoke test is touching everything but not deep whereas a golden (or happy if thats what you want) path is making sure that someone could complete the game but not necissarily do everything.

The smaller the pool of players the less-effective the PTR is, so Blizzard naturally wants to do things that will encourage more people to invest some time in playing it to report bugs or even give feedback on where the changes fall short. The more people the less chance that random bugs associated with code changes actually make it live. I think I said it in another thread, but what if implementing ID All, for some reason, introduced a bug where Azmodan became un-killable.

Their internal testing is very much unlikely to pick up on that because they're probably NOT going to go kill Azmodan. But a PTR will almost certainly pick up on that because, if you get 100,000 people on the PTR, there's a decent chance that one of them eventually goes to kill Azmodan and says "WTF M8 HE DON'T DIE!" and then they fix it before it goes live.
You are right in that it's impossible to test everyting, but I would place bets on Blizzard having a guy do what we call over here a "golden path" playthrough on every build. That's where they just rabbit through the game not doing any side stuff to make sure that the game is still completeable.

As someone who does QA for a living it's always hillarious to me how little people appreciate how much even the smallest change can screw up everything. Even well written code can sometimes break completely when a valid change is made.
The joke around here is that the big changes never seem to be a problem, but the little ones will take weeks to fix all the issues found.

Un-socketing Marquise gems will cost 5 million gold

not like Im ever going to own any of these ridiculously overpriced gems, but seriously... what the hell
They're trying to get gold out of the system. Same reason it costs 20M to create them and will probably cost a couple M to create the recipes by the time the PTR is done. Speaking of, do we have a PTR precedent for D3? How long was the last one up before the patch?

Evening. I skimmed through the thread and didn't see it but I was wondering why prismatic armor has no effect when you aren't wearing additional + all resist gear? Unless it changed in the last week (I've been working overtime all week) prismatic does increase the resistances earned from int so it should always benefit a wizard to some small degree unless I'm mistaken in how EH works.

Either way awesome job thanks for the calculator.

I'm not sure what you mean, but Prismatic armor properly increases your allresist (also the +1 INT, but thats REALLY small). However the "Energy Armor - Prismatic" checkbox doesn't include the normal "Energy Armor", I will change that so it does :-)
Hmm.. So when I was putting in my stats I put in my int and then subtracted my resists from int before putting it in the calculator. Was that the wrong way to do it? Seems like it would be double dipping if I counted my resists from int in the total there so I had a 0 for resist all (I have some single resistances but no all gear at the moment and wanted the worst case scenario EH) and it came out as energy armor-Prismatic gave me no beneift. When I changed it to 100 just to test it increased my EH by about16k.

Should I have instead listed both my ~1500 int and ~150 resistances from it?

    Thanks

edit: Read the Blur number instead of the Prismatic number when I was jumping back and forth so i swapped that in correctly.
