    I think there's a perception that RiF is the new Baal run, but that's actually far from the truth. Like MP vs. SP, there are various ways to play, and they have various levels of efficiency, but none of them are so inefficient that it completely kills the enjoyment. Except for Story Mode. That shit's busted, yo.

    Just to clarify: When I said "Blizzard should lower endboss shard drops, and make rift elites drop a few shards each.", that was precisely because that approach would ensure that people doing full runs wouldn't be impacted, only RiF boss farmers. Smart? I think so.

    When I said "Purely to reduce community toxicity", that was precisely because I don't care in the slightest how other people find loot, but it's quite clear that an awful lot of people do care, and more to the point, they care very much about how they find loot themselves, and if people are doing RiF under mistaken assumptions, then the most expedient way to disabuse them is to tweak the way rift shards are distributed.

    The kill achievements are definitely bugged. I've killed dozens of champion subjugators, but the kill never checks off under "We Are The Champions". Fortunately, a re-work of the achievement tracking code is scheduled for 2.1, so with any luck that problem will vanish quietly.

    Also, Otzi's spawn rate sucks monkey butts.

    I think the (entirely rational) fear is that Blizzard has an established track record of long and/or erratic seasons (e.g. D2, SC2 and WoW), and as noble as the idea of dropping season legendaries into the general pool is, it's the timeframe that matters. Facilitating player preference (not choice) is all about carefully managing the various reward structures. Blizzard has (IMO) messed that up hugely with the current Campaign vs. Adventure mode situation, and to a lesser extent with the new (we doubled it!) rift buff becoming permanent. I don't have a lot of confidence that they'll get ladder vs. non-ladder right the first time around, either.

    IMO, the best solution is to use ladder seasons to introduce a bunch of new legendaries (no orange rares, please)... possibly even sharing a common theme, which start off in ladder play, but are released into general population after a fixed time (e.g. two to four weeks), regardless of season length. This would give ladder players a 'got there first' feel (which is basically what the ladder mindset is, isn't it?), while giving others a reason to give a damn about ladder seasons.

    Given that most people are perfectly happy with D3 and don't even own RoS, and that most people only play for a few hours a week, and that most people don't use a keyboard, I think Blizzard should multiply gambling legendary rates by 10.

    Given that it's a community buff, it's most likely switched on at a particular date (e.g. D3's 2nd birthday, the start of Blizzcon, etc), and guarantees you a legendary within the first hour of getting the buff (i.e. the first time you logged in with a given character after the buff went live, not each time you log in)... basically an in-game way of gifting legendaries to players.

    It's not about broadening appeal... that's a fast-track to mediocrity. It's about mitigating the fact that certain players, simply because of RNG, won't see any good loot for days, a subset of which won't see anything for weeks, and so on. Through no fault of their own, their experience of the game isn't as positive as others.

    Blizzard already has some mitigating factors... bounties give access to higher drop rates via rifts, targeted farming in the form of act-specific legendaries from caches, and slot-specific ones from Kadala. I wonder if the issue is just down to the gap between 'best' and 'good'.

    Sure, but given that, how do you make loot-farming in D3 a positive experience for everyone? Maybe that's a zen question. There is definitely a selection bias issue... people who are getting what they want by the time they expect it aren't really posting. But there's no doubt that even once you've removed the people who don't get how RNG works or how important efficiency is, or are just plain old angry internet haters, there's enough sane, rational people having a bad time to warrant some kind of action. Bear in mind that the 'shafted by the RNG' issue is going to feel even worse in ladder seasons, where there's a very finite time-span, and "it'll all even out over time" no longer applies.

    Note: Increasing the drop-rate is clearly and absolutely not the right thing to do. So there's that.

    I think part of the problem is that for any given class, there's actually only a small number of items which aren't basically trash. There are too many orange rares and underwhelming set bonuses in the legendary roster, which means that the odds of a legendary actually being one you want is smaller than it should be.

    At the moment, there's a tension between having no guarantees about what you'll get next (which is good), and having no guarantees about what you'll get ever, which can be demoralizing when the game isn't capable of throwing surprises at you to make up for it (and that last bit is really the key to getting people to put up with low-odds gambling).

    Perhaps Blizzard should either do another pass and beef up the 'B-list legendaries', or add a grindy way to re-roll either more than one stat, or the entire item, when the game drops the right legendary with completely the wrong stats. Maybe as simple as if you've got two crappy versions of the same legendary, you can use one to completely re-roll the other?
