posted a message on Romancing the Legendary
It’s been a particularly difficult run. The maniacs seem to come out of nowhere and catch me when there’s a labyrinth of tunnels behind me; I’ve never seen so many range skellies, and I thought Blizzard wasn’t going to have anymore desecrator-jailor-waller-arcane-plague-illusionists. I’ve got a bandage on my wrist for the carpal tunnel, my thumb is sticking to the grime on the side of the mouse and my index finger is cramping.
But then it happens: in the middle of a gang of forty skellies, a pencil thin amber column of light. I blink in disbelief, I’ve only seen this a couple of times before. Please, let me kill the last of these skellies and not disconnect! The last of the mobs is dead and I wait to see that nothing else is coming. I run over to the source of the light, and there it is. Between the Exsanquinating Wand of the Depressed Wizard and the Less-than-Exceptional Aegis of the Frustrated Blasphemer is the word ‘Gloves’. Simple, elegant and orange. I pick it up and open my inventory to see if it really is there. I dare not identify it.
I’m in the 2nd level of the keep, and steel myself to continue my journey at least to Ghom. All the while, I’m thinking, “I could really use new gloves” … “I could really use new anything, for that matter”. Even if I can’t use it, maybe this legendary will be one of the 200,000,000-gold items that I see by the hundreds on the AH and wonder how other people always get them. If it is, then I can get an Immortal King something. I wonder if I’ll be able to afford the IK chest?
It seems like hours to finally down Ghom, and I portal to the Keep. I sell off the blue items (yes, I do pick up everything), and I get all the rares from the stash. I strategically move the legendary so it will be the last thing I identify. The rares are the usual crap: a dozen crossbows and quivers, most gear has no primary stats and most weapons wouldn’t be suitable to kill the Skeleton King on normal. Finally, the legendary … Tasker and Theo, ilvl63! Sounds good, right? Seven stats and a socket, pretty good? So the primary stats are only half what I’m wearing now, but the armor is twice. And maybe that 2000 extra health from globes is good for someone.
I log out to the AH and search for similar. 25 pages of Tasker and Theo. I sort by price. The cheapest one is 50K. I type in the strength and vitaliy … 50K. I type in Fire Resist and Attack Speed … 50K. Finally, I type in Has Socket … 60K! 60-f..king-K!!!! I rush over to the fat guy, and before he can say “My people have no homela…”, Tasker and Theo is no more. Damn, my wrist hurts!

    10. When the enchantress says, “Riches await us!” you can be assured they don’t. Obviously, she has very poor taste in clothes (and, BTW, "us" is debatable)

    11. Fortune Goblins tend to favor the company of Desecrator-Waller-Molten-Illusionist-Vortex Soul Rippers

    12. … and when they can’t find them, they stay with their cousins, the Fallen Maniacs … the giggle is a family trait

    13. That weapon rack you just bypassed had a legendary with your name on it

    14. Don’t get excited, that green that just dropped was not a set piece; it’s Deckard Cain’s treatise on Withermoths

    15. Ewwww! Ghom just farted on that; don’t touch it!

    16. Only items you don’t ID are valuable

    17. If that elite is destined to have a legendary, your follower will land the killing blow

    18. The only way to stop bows and quivers from dropping is to run a DH to lvl60

    19. Caution: Equipping all those items of dubious stats, may result in this:

It must first be recognized that loot drops are not determined by any computer generated models or Random Number Generators but rather by Blizzard’s developer of all things worthless, the Marquis de Sade. The following rules and suggestions will help to make your futile attempts to find something of value perhaps a bit more efficient. However, my experience in these forums is that this advice will fall on deaf ears.
    1. The value of drops is in inverse proportion to the effort required to attain them. Therefore Ghom, Siegebreaker and Azmodan will never drop legendaries.
    2. Since shrines of any type are never placed where they can be of any benefit, you will not find anything of value within five minutes of activating a Shrine of Fortune.
    3. Resplendent chests contain far more junk then normal chests. If your backpack is near to full, ignore resplendent chests.
    4. Never achieve 300 (375 buffed) MF. That is considered arrogant by the Marquis and you will be penalized for it.
    5. Keep in mind that more valuable gear seems to drop after you have reduced your MF thru gear upgrades, perpetuating the theory behind #4. Therefore, always carry additional gear to artificially reduce your MF during runs of ACT3 should you inadvertently level up.
    6. In the rare case that you do find a legendary item, never identify it during the run. It is far better to proceed in the misplaced belief that you have something of value rather than in a depressed state realizing you do not.
    7. Your follower may be stealing your legendary drops and selling them behind your back.
    8. Never assist that stupid blacksmith in the Depths. If he had anything of value, do you think he’d sell it to you?
    9. Hold onto those crossbows with strength, those mighty belts with intellect, those wands of dexterity. Blizzard is planning a new character class; I think it’s a Koala.

    Your contributions are welcome!

I switched to melee build because I'm a bit challenged in the eye-hand department. If you watch whats-his-name "alkaiser's" videos, you'd get discouraged, too. 55 million XP per hour!!! What some people think is fun --- lol.

Try to plan your escape route before attacking the champion packs. Pick the nearest elite or white mob and get your fury maxed, then start sprinting and whirlwinding around their outside. Watch out for poisons, chains, moltens, etc. so you don't stop in any of them. As often as possible, run out from the elites to safe ground (never get cornered) and let the pack chase you a bit, they tend not to proc pools when moving. If you see the health of one member of the pack lower then the others and maybe 25%, focus on running around just him --- 2/3 of a champion pack is almost harmless.

PS: Did you just switch to Pulverize from Instigation? I wouldn't do that just yet

You've got good solid stats and should be having little problem finishing the game and getting on to farming. Two suggestions, switch Beserker Rage with either of the two armor passives (tough as nails or nerves of steal, whichever results in higher armor --- I've been know to activate both in tough situations --- lol), and then get some more crit chance. You can hold HP, LoH and Resists just where they are, and add more strength as you change gear. Whirlwind Barbarian is all about the 'dance' and not the 'dress' --- you are not meant to stop moving, never get surrounded by mobs, and always plan your escape.

This might make you feel better:

posted a message on Primeray stats needed for WW build
    1) Strength: Strength is the main multiplier for all DPS and, as an added benefit, builds armor. If you look for it in almost all gear, you'll easily get more than the minimal requirement of 1500-1600. Armor BTW should be about 6k minimum.

    2) Crit Chance: You'll notice that Battle Rage/Into the Fray depends on the number of crits, not the damage they produce to generate fury. You'll more than likely be hearing "not enough fury" all the time ... that's why building it fast and often is so important.

    3) Weapon Damage: Most likely, you'll use a mace or axe to get the extra crit chance bonus from Weapon Master (see above). Don't just look at the DPS number on the weapon, but rather at the max-min damage itself. The higher the average of these numbers, then the higher the destructive power of the tornadoes spawned by Sprint.

    4) Resists: The trick here is to look for All Resist first, and then look for the specific resist that is often there, too. When you get gear with, for example, 60 AR and 30 Cold Resist, make a note and then look for other types of resist after that. Most people look for Physical to surpass all the others, but as long as they're balanced, it is best. You can achieve 500 unbuffed resists more easily as a combination of AR and specifics, than you can with AR alone.

    5) Crit Damage: now is the time for Crit Damage. Unfortunately, the gear that usually has Crit Damage (e.g., gloves, rings, amulets) is extremely expensive. The cheapest and easiest way to get this is through the Stat Stick ... the offhand weapon that should have Crit Damage, a gem slot (for more crit damage), strength, loH etc. even if it has only 400-600 DPS ... tornadoes get their damage multiplier from the main hand weapon only, so it almost doesn't matter what the offhand does.

    6) LoH vs Life Steal: There is nothing more satisfying than slamming an elite or boss and watching your swings heal you. There are some guys who can get over 2000 LoH ... but that is an expensive route. I agree with the comments above that this stat is overrated. I recently took a big cut in LoH, and still did quite well. All the hits from tornadoes and whirwind and such can really be a big multiplier to even 400-500 LoH. The benefit to LoH over Life Steal, is that Life Steal reduces in effect based on where you are in Hell/Nightmare/Inferno ... by the time you're in Inferno, Life Steal is only working for 20% of its advertised value. So, a 5% Life steal is only netting you 1% (1% of 30k DPS is only 300 life per second --- not per hit). LoH gives you 100% of the advertised benefit. Get to 60k DPS and then we can talk about Life Steal --- :)
