Yeah, it's the armory/character profiles.

Yeah, interesting change for melee, but I don't see the point in making the Mortors harder for range, the game is hard enough and as a ranged, mortors is what I hate the most besides the combination of speed and immune.
They aren't making it harder. Mortar should do less damage in 1.0.3, but there were a lot of ranged who were just outranging the mortar entirely (shooting 'off screen', as it were) while melee were still getting caught in the Mortar. Since Mortar is meant to be bad for ranged, good for melee... It needs to be changed.
Essentially for ranged, your new tactic won't be to outrange it, but to stay at just the right range where you don't get hit by mortar, but don't get hit by melee attacks either. Tricky, certainly: doable, totally! -

Nice patch changes love them. Just a bit "nervous" about repair x4 or x5. So instead of lets say 7.000 gold repair, it will be 28.000 or 35.000 . Not everyone is "graveyard zerging" enemies. But as Triptic said...can't please them all!
Ideally, with these changes you'll only be dying a lot if you're severely undergeared. In other words...
Now, you'll die a lot because stuff one shots you, regardless of gear. It's ok though, because you can just run back and keep chipping away at their HP, dying 4-5 times in the process.
After the patch, you'll only die if you're really undergeared. If you're properly geared, you'll die once, maybe twice, or probably not at all if you're skilled. Less deaths means less durability loss, means less repairs required but they cost more.
The point I'm trying to make is I think it'll ultimately balance out. Sure, if you're undergeared and trying to bruteforce it you're going to suffer. But if you're appropriately geared and playing well, you shouldn't notice much change. -

yesterday:
No, no, no... far, far less than 1%
today:
1.9% of characters have unlocked Inferno difficulty
WTF!!
Let's not get fixated on that. He made a mistake. The point is, it's still an utterly miniscule amount of people, regardless of whether it's over or under 1%.
Fantastic post from Blizzard. Really interesting to see what they're doing and the issues they're addressing. Looking forward to seeing the patch this/next week! - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

So OP, good for you that you're able to share interests with your child. I hope that one day I can do the same with my future offspring (if it ever happens, currently not planning on it but you never know :P).

There's an exchange between the Templar and the hero at one point (I was playing Demon Hunter, but he probably does this with other classes too) where they're basically going:
'THE DEMONS ARE EVIL, LOOK AT THE INNOCENTS THEY HAVE SLAUGHTERED. I AM RIGHTEOUSLY ANGRY.'
'I AGREE. I SHALL MAKE THEM PAY WITH BLOOD.'
'YOU ARE A TRUE HERO.'
It's like, wtf. How boring and one-dimensional.
Can't wait for the patch where I can turn off conversations with my followers, so can focus on the gameplay!

Would be a bit time-consuming to make the list, but worth it I feel.

Probably best that you get rid of your ideas of balancing now, because Blizzard have already. One shot matches are entirely possible.

700 DPS weapon, 1000 strength, OR
900 DPS weapon, 900 strength
700 * 1000% = 7000 DPS
900 * 900% = 8100 DPS
There's A LOT more that goes into the math than that, but it gives you the idea. The short, easy to understand version: more weapon DPS is almost always better. If you have a choice between more strength or more weapon DPS, go for the DPS.

Do you mean the authenticator on smart phones, or the dial in authenticator? The first one should work, the second doesn't work with D3.
Also, guys, let's not blame him for getting hacked. It isn't his fault: nobody asks to be hacked. Let's direct our anger at the people who deserve it: the hackers. Not the OP. Not Blizzard.

Blizzard take security very seriously, but you have to help them out. Use an authenticator. No, I'm not blaming you for being hacked (it always sucks and I'm sorry for it), but at the same time it isn't Blizzard's fault either. They haven't been compromised. The hacker got a hold of your password through other means: it doesn't necessarily mean you did anything questionable and accidentally got a keylogging virus. It could just be something like that Adobe Flash flaw that caused widespread account compromises a couple of years back. Not your fault, not Blizzard's.
I would also imagine their phone lines are busy because, y'know, new game. It happens a lot and not just to Blizzard. You could also submit an online ticket, I believe? Might work better.
Final note... You probably don't see hacks in Rift because the potential market for gold buying is far, far smaller than it is in WoW. Why go for the 1 million (or whatever, cba to find exact numbers) subscriber market when you could go for the 10 million subscriber market? Or 6.3 million (and counting), in the case of D3.

And this is exactly what I was referring to.
1. They do offer it for free if you own a smartphone. No, it's not some clever ploy to get you to buy smartphones: Blizzard have no stake whatsoever in the profits from those.
2. The physical authenticators are sold at cost: all Blizzard are doing is recouping the cost of making the authenticator. They are not making any profit whatsoever.
3. it's not unheard of for Blizzard to just say 'you've been hacked too many times, your account is permanently closed now'. Of course, you'd need to be hacked many times for this to occur, but why take the risk? Also, by relying on Blizzard's account restoration service, you're wasting the time of Blizzard's customer service department, which in turn wastes money. Congratulations, you're selfish.
Just get an authenticator. It's not hard.

Never happened to me before, but I suppose it's possible. Very very low chance, but you know how RNG can get. I feel your pain!

It could just be down to my personal preference though. I think I'd want to get some +spirit regen gear to make this work for me. Might help other people (or I may be doing something wrong, in which case please feel free to enlighten me).
That said, I do find this build allows me to easily burn through Act 1 Inferno. Some things can cause me to pause/kite, but for the most part Act 1 is very, very easy. Act 2 is still the issue though: even with this build, with 650 resistances, 27k HP and around 7k armor, I find I die very quickly.
Think I need more dexterity too, then. It's a very good build though: perhaps most effective when with other people?

Assuming your friends can do enough DPS to cover your deficit, then you're absolutely right. It's also worth bearing in mind that there isn't really aggro in this game, like in WoW: the mobs will just go for whoever they like. Usually that means whoever is closest, so luckily that means Melee are able to Tank sufficiently without needing to do high DPS.
So yeah: you could go full support/tank, assuming your friends are able to do enough DPS. Weapon DPS does nothing for heals or support abilities unless it explicitly states weapon DPS is a factor in the advanced tooltip.

In answer to your other question (what does weapon DPS affect): anything that does damage. Heals only scale with your level, or maybe with your max HP. Turn on advanced tooltips and double check, it'll say what it's scaling with in there.
But yeah. You need a high DPS weapon. Don't think like WoW!
