Bashiok is not your average community manager. He will be more blunt and more abrasive, someone that puts himself at the level of the community and won't always have some idea of "proper etiquette" that many people believe he should have. I see both sides of it, nothing he has said has offended me, and I do believe that at the end of the day he fulfills all the purposes of his job quite well -- some people just don't like his attitude.

patchs are fine, but did they really have to do them in prime gaming time? coudln't they do it in the night where everyone sleeps?

I just wish they would do maintenance at a separate time/day than WoW, as I sit here with plenty of good gaming time and nothing that I really feel like playing.

Good vids, thanks. Perhaps I underestimate Pound of Flesh in Inferno -- I always use Superstition instead pretty much.

I expect whirlwind builds will become more viable in Inferno, once you get a 2h +life on hit weapon. A heal every time you whirlwind a mob... which is one of many mobs = many many heals?

Its gonna need some testing, but it may have potential.

Quite possible. Leech in D2 was pretty crazy with WW.

I used it pre-Inferno quite a bit, mostly just for fun/nostalgia from D2 and feeling badass, as well as smashing 2000 objects. I think it lacks for Inferno compared to things that could take its place, but I don't think it's entirely useless. I do wish it was better, though.

I'm in a pretty similar spot right now, but I often use Threatening Shout w/ Falter. I think it's largely underestimated as a source of damage reduction compared to the buffs that we have. Not sure if weaving that into your build at all would help with damage taken, as I'm still at a point where I need to gear up more to be very successful in later Inferno acts.

I could use some love, but I don't expect it in 1.02. Maybe in 1.1, doubtful but possible in 1.03. I still really love barbarian, I just wish it was more on par with others in some ways.

If I get connection below green I teleport back to town and wait it to get better or just disconnect and try again later..

+1. Lag = death in HC. Just ask yourself this question: if I were to keep playing knowing it was a particularly laggy time and die because of it, how mad would I be at myself for such an easily avoidable death? To me, it's not worth getting the extra little gaming in.

    HC is a marathon....not a sprint.

For sure, and I don't disagree. Just wondering if we sudden get an unexpected lag spike, if it's possible to pause the game or what the best course of action may be right then and there.

As far as I know, there's no way to pause it (someone can correct me if I'm wrong?). In a scenario like you just illustrated, I'd try to get back to the nearest town ASAP or, failing that, an area I've cleared, and then monitor the lag for a minute or two. If it persists, I'd take a bit of a break - shop the vendors, maybe start a new character, etc.

I understand the temptation to keep going but I've experienced lag death in D2Exp, and it was not a fun feeling. I only play for maybe an hour or so a night (my barb is only lvl 23), and thus want to maximize the time I have available. Starting to level a second, much lower level character is, to me, a better way to use this time if the server is laggy. The time has to be put in regardless, and the risk/reward is less lopsided.

As Skullflower said, you can in fact pause the game by hitting ESC (only if you are playing solo, not with friends). I was mostly just wondering how the server would receive that command in the face of lag, and if it would be a wise thing to do. Thanks for the input though.

Just wondering if anyone has any solid experience and advice with this. My connection was pretty bad yesterday and I'd get spurts of 5~ second lag every few minutes. After this happened a few times in succession, I decided to stop playing HC for a bit. Needless to say, it got me wondering what the best thing to do is if we find ourselves in that situation.

If you're playing solo, do you attempt to pause the game? Do you try to leave the game? Run away? Use defensive abilities/potions? Some combination of the above?

Both ideas/theories and (preferably) real experience in these situations would be insightful. I'm mostly wondering about if the game will still get paused even during a lag spike. Thanks in advance for any contribution to the thread.

That sucks man. I remember doing those guys for the first time on softcore and thinking they'd be quite a pain on HC. Just started playing my first HC char last night. Best of luck in the future.

how do you get 2 shouts in your build? When i press s for skills i can not take 2 shouts its war cry or battle rage not both.

You need to go into your game options and enable Elective Mode. I believe it is under gameplay. It is honestly the single most important feature, yet unfortunately is disabled by default for new players. This lets you interchange any possible combination of skills.
