Apparently i can be in act 3 inferno and not be either of those builds, guess you are wrong there is more than 2 options sorry.

Clearly there are more than two possible builds, thank you for pointing that out good sir. Your choice of teleport > calamity and illusionist over wave of force and critical mass happens to make your own variant suboptimal, and therefore not within the scope of this thread, but to each his own...

Disintegrate may not be able to crit, but the exploding mobs can for loads of damage! If you use that rune like me anyway.

I don't really understand the point of that rune; it's a relatively low proc and just does splash - i/e more of what lazer already does quite nicely. Chaos nexus can crit quite nicely too, and does an even nicer job of CYA.

How will the inevitable Force Armor nerf affect these builds?

except force armor won't get nerf, do you honestly believe Blizzard didn't think of that simple as hell build during the year or so they tested it? (I knew right when I learned about force armor that this build could be made...)

Do I honestly believe that Bliz didn't think of it? Considering the general disaster right now with so many game-breaking issues, you better believe it.

I've been through a whirlwind of new builds lately, including the revered force armor build, and have finally settled into the one I think I'm going to stick with. I don't know how I missed out on using venom hydra before, but this forum has shown me the light. Its awesome.

    http://us.battle.net...YRXS!aXc!aZZbaZ

Being that it is not the force armor build, vitality is a consideration, in addition to the obvious choice of intelligence. But beyond those two, what stats would you recommend stacking? I thought about going for life regen, but then I thought a more offensive stat would be nicer, especially considering the fact that I didn't take glass cannon (I have a hard enough time staying alive in hell as it is).

Attack speed %? Crit chance? I havent seen any yet but I guess there's also +dmg to individual skills, perhaps I could try to stack for some insane Disintegrate or Hydra dmg?

Crit is useless for lazer, no idea if attack speed makes it tick faster though. I would just focus on +dmg, +int, +vit and +skill for now.

Just starting Nightmare and I'm lvl 35. I'm trying to decide if I should just abandon my signature spell and go with a buff (magic weapon), another defensive spell (Magic Mirror, teleport or FN) or anything else someone may suggest.

Here is what I'm currently using:

    http://us.battle.net...dXRO!YXa!aabaaa

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I'd try Piercing Orb instead of Electrocute and Chaos Nexus instead of Convergence; also Prodigy instead of Blur to weave in between lazer blasts for AP regen. Not sure if I understand logic of Forceful Wave as the main focal point of this skill is defense, not damage (maybe replace entirely in favor of mirror image). Arcane hydra is a waste, swap with Magic Weapon; I'd try Sparkflint over Energy Armor too. Most importantly though - scour the AH for a level 40+ weapon with Reduces Level Requirement 5+.

Yeah I tend to not use Forceful Wave too much so I'll play with some of those other options.

Your thoughts on hydra suprise me. They seem to be useful when I'm running away from champions/uniques that are trying to pound my face in. Is there a better kiting spell that will let me dps while on the run?

Blizzard is great for kiting / funneling mobs together for lazer. You can also melee tank to an extent with diamond skin, just watch the duration and stay out of the fire.

Yes. It's very simple - no yellow numbers in path of beam, ever. Chaos Nexus CAN crit, however.

posted a message on Two Schools of Wizard - Disintegrate and Critical Mass
So there seem to be two types of Wizard right now; those that rely on Magic Weapon + Disintegrate (cannot crit) and stack DPS, and those that stack crit and make use of Critical Mass to spam Wave of Force with Arcane Orb for blackup. Both builds make use of Venom Hydra's OP stacking pools, Diamond Skin and Frost Nova for survivability, and Force Armor for the lols.

Is this correct? How will the inevitable Force Armor nerf affect these builds?

posted a message on Question about DPS number on Stats Sheet?
    Rules of thumb:

If it increases DPS without significant hit to vitality, equip it.

If it increases crit or crit damage, chill; our main spells cannot crit in this stage of the game.

If it has a lot of +xp from monstah, life from globes, etc, look for better.

Tooltip weapon DPS is one of the main components of our damage output. This includes any +elemental damage (which seemingly just gets converted to the element of your chosen spell).

posted a message on Archon vs Magic Weapon, Critical Mass vs Evocation
    Quote from hiyeon

Hello everyone, I had a few questions. I've been looking at a few builds and rarely see Archon with the increased damage. Is Magic weapon a lot better than getting Archon for DPS? Also, for masteries I was wondering which would be a better choice for cooldown reduction... Critical Mass or Evocation like how often are we critting for it to be reduced more than 15%? Sorry if these questions are stupid but I just want the best possible build... currently using Archon because it's really fun but I am not sure if I should just use a different skill. With the CD maybe the flat 15% would be better because maybe sometimes I wouldnt be attacking to get the crits? I am not sure. Thanks everyone! This is my current build: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/wizard#biXROm!YXf!bcabYc

Magic Weapon adds a shitton of DPS; try it out ingame, only you can decide whether the increase is superior to a 2 min CD ability that also leaves you basically defenseless (spoiler: the answer is YES).

You should also try mixing in Sparkflint in place of Force Crutch (which may have just been nerfed).

    i have a wizard at lvl 36 i need some tips with my build -> http://us.battle.net...YRTm!YbX!ZZZZZa <-

usually i play alone and sometimes with 1 or 2 friends (usually a wizard and a demon hunter)

    thx for the help ^^

Try mixing in Magic Weapon and Familiar > Sparkflint for a huge DPS boost (in place of storm armor and hydra). Get rid of Death Blossom (swap for charged bolts or impactful blades). As for Archon, it can be good on lower diff levels (esp. if there's a lot of weak targets for huge duration) but you really ought to adapt to a more reliable playstyle with diamond skin > crystal shell.

Also, swap Evocation with Prodigy; weaving in signature spells = more lazer.

    Suggested build:

    Melty Laser
Signature (probably Exploding Bolts) for Prodigy
    Crystal Shell
    Magic Weapon
    Sparkflint
Frost Nova, Mirror Image or Blizzard

    Quote from ContentsMayVary

If you don't give a fuck, why did you start this thread?

For precisely that reason, lol. I play everything on highest difficulty and expected more from my first playthrough of a game that I have been eagerly awaiting; just seems to me that Bliz made an oversight by making high DPS values so easy to reach in Normal. Equivalent would be adding a short quest to Mass Effect games that quintuples all weapon damage and splash radius, or having Paladin Shields drop from regular mobs in FF6.

    Quote from Miraaal

I thought it was a serious question about DPS, but then I saw that you were ranting on about it beeing too easy. Lost interest ^^

But I can say that you will need to pack up on a lot of dps and HP later on, I have 26k HP and 11K dps, and some elite packs just basically rapes me. So keep on hoarding gear ^^

Are you max level? I'm pretty sure that 20k+ is easily reachable, and would help you a lot more than that shield you probably tote around...

Quite possibly worst thread title ever.

So far, I prefer the enchantress for her pushback spell, generally has a dramatic effect on the battlefield. The templar's healing is nice, but hardly reliable and you can do the same by kiting back to health orbs.

For the rest of your questions, just search the forums.

    Hey guys,

I am level 32, just picked up an 80 DPS weapon on AH. I have +damage on source, rings and amulet, and have a decent amount of +int. With glass cannon, magic weapon and sparkflint, my DPS is just past 1k.

The game is now basically just silly. I point disintegrate at something, it dies on contact. I can shift-click the exploding shock blast signature spell in a direction and just steamroll everything (2k+ crits). Only a boss or champion can withstand the first arcane orb (rarely the second). I can literally kill a story boss in seconds with Death Blossom / Mirror Image / Diamond Skin and take no damage. Granted I am still on normal and expect that nightmare will offer more of a challenge, but I really did not expect to just a-move my way through the end of the storyline, lol.

-1 for Bliz internal testing, guess we know why they never beat inferno /sigh
