posted a message on Firebird dot tick value
    Quote from boz0

    Hey guys,

With my Woh and very average gear, it goes up to 34M. I've tried it with a 3750 dps unsocketed Maximus (currently equipped on my profile), just to check whether it was worth a gift, and it only went up to 44M. I thought it would go way higher with a 2-hander, so I'm a little surprised.

How high does your FB dot tick? And do you think that Maximus is worth a gift?
Ok, I guess it's time for fucking awesome stories... :)

The FB DOT tick value depends greatly on the following:

    1. Speed of your weapon. A 3800 DPS 2h mace will always result in much stronger FB DOT ticks than a 3800 DPS 2h sword, because sword's DPS is so high only because of the attack speed, but FB DOT doesn't scale with it.
    2. Target type: elite or non-elite. Since most top wizards run the Furnace + Bane of the Powerful + SoJ + Unity, they deal 2x more damage vs elites or even more. And since people like to show off, they'll tell you they hit for zillions of damage without clarifying that it's only vs elites. So you should take their replies with a grain of salt.
    3. Legendary gems. Lots of people use Zei's Stone of Vengeance and the numbers they tell you are most probably from 50+ yards away from a target (yet people rarely mention that when they tell you they deal zillions of damage per tick). This is another reason why you should take replies with a grain of salt.
    4. Buffs/debuffs. FB DOT snapshots those when being applied. This means that with exactly the same gear your FB DOT can tick for 100M or for 1B depending on what buffs you had and what debuffs were applied to your target before your first fire attack landed on that target. People usually tell you the highest tick they got even if that was in a group with +200% damage buff and +200% incoming damage debuff.
Why I'm saying all this stuff? Because it's really easy to get upset and discouraged to play FB wizard after some guys on the forum tell you something about 1B+ ticks without specifying ANY details whatsoever, while you only deal 50M+ per tick. 50M per tick with a 1hander and a gear like yours is totally fine. The number will get much higher once you find a decent 1 APS 2hander (preferrably the Furnace).

posted a message on Thunderstorm jailer blue packs in high Grift lvls ^_^ Thoughts?!
    Ok, there are 2 options:

    1. Get a perfect Cameo and wear it all the time. However, you have to be extremally lucky.
    2. Do what all top 100 people do: farm 39+ till you get a sequence of good rifts. That's how people get to top 10. Sad but true.
Edit: In fact, there's no other option but #2, since Cameo won't protect you from being insta-gibbed by Thunderstorm.

Don't blame exploiters - blame developers instead. When you find a way to fuck the system, you're stupid not to use it.

The one with cold dmg brings 5% extra DMG from Elemental Exposure or not?
It does. However, you get like 12% DPS increase from weapon damage difference alone, so your 2462 TF is definitely better.

This forum REALLY needs a F.A.Q. thread. :D

There are 12 blasts, but some of them overlap, so it looks like there are only 6 of them. Drop all your IAS and check again.

I'm a software developer myself and I know what it's like to tell some people their services are safe so thay they could then tell millions of other people that their data is safe and so on and to forth. As a dev team lead, I know that as long as you have an incompetent developer in your team, you can't promise anything to anybody. Apparently (based on latests events), a company like Blizzard doesn't feel they have to be picky when it comes to accepting new people to their team AND organizing their development process well enough to prevent fuck-ups that we've seen today. This is why I'll NEVER EVER touch HC in D3, unless they'll make it totally offline. Their services are way too fragile to rely on.
I played a rather substantial amount of time on HC and have only had 1 confirmed DC death. Hundreds and hundreds of hours.

Being that you're privy to insider knowledge and the technological logistics of a development team, I assume you also understand the technical limitations, snafus and unavoidable "blips" which will occur when providing an online service to millions of people simultaneously on a massive international, worldwide scale?

HC online is perilous and it sucks dick to lose a char that stood up to everything sanctuary could throw at it, only to die because of the technology involved. DO NOT accept a HC account if you do not accept the x-factor of disconnection deaths.
You know what? I won't pretend that I've never ever fucked up a launch of a huge project, but it has NEVER resulted in a loss of a user info. That's the main mantra of the software development: is you fuck up the info of your users, you're useless and your product is shit. At the same time Blizzard do that and apparently they don't give a crap about it. The disclaimer they've put at the HC char creation doesn't make it any different: their services are still crap. I'm not even a HC player - I'm just a guy that knows that letting your client app to run for 3-4 minutes after being DC'd (considering there's no supported offline mode) is nonesence. You can't trust your HC char to people that create such software.

I mean, come on. Me and my friends got DC'd today and were in-game for like 3-4 minutes (!!!) after DC. Now tell me, what kind of fucking amateurs develop this game if they don't even know what timeouts are for in SOA? That's one of the basics when it comes to designing client-server systems and it's rather obvious that these guys know little of it. How can you trust your HC char to people that allow your char to stay in the game for 3-4 minutes after you've got disconnected because of their fault???

posted a message on AP-less Elemental Wizard
Ok, modified my AP-less build for level 70:

    http://eu.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/wizard#UcQjSO!WdSR!cccccc

    1. Still no AP stats needed.
    2. It's extremally tanky. If you feel it's too tanky for you, I suggest replacing Deflection with Force Weapon or Ignite (if your weapon doesn't have +fire damage affix).
    3. With +fire damage weapon (or Ignite rune) you provide constant +30% incoming damage debuff, which makes you one the best party DPS buffers in the game.
I like to alter the build depending on what I need by replacing Magic Weapon with:

    1. Archon, if I want some burst against elites @ T2+.
    2. Slow Time / Time Warp for even stronger party DPS buff.
    Old (level 60) build:

Remember the good ol' "blizzard + venom hydra + piercing orb" cookie-cutter AP-less build? It was so popular after the release, since crappy gear couldn't support Archon and CMWW. Since my legacy Archon gear doesn't have APoC or any fancy legendary affixes, I've decided that I'll run some build that doesn't need any of that.

    http://eu.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/wizard#UlQjSO!WdZ!cbccZZ
    Pros:
    1. Doesn't need APoC, AP regen, max AP - nothing.
    2. Doesn't depend on any legendaries.
    3. Nice party DPS buffer.
    Cons
    1. Doesn't depend on any legendaries - not as fancy as single-element builds.
    2. No huge crits.
    Why Electrocute + Arc Lightning?
Its scaling coefficent is rather high for a signature spell, it's free, it's AOE and it hits WAY faster than blades, which means your Familiar/Cannoneer turns into AOE machinegun. Also, it makes a wizard look like a badass jedi. :D

    Why Cannoneer instead of Sparkflint?
    Because it kicks ass.

    Why Blizzard?
Because with Snowbound it's dirt cheap. Because it's nearly passive fire-and-forget source of sustained damage. Because with Cold Blooded it gives +10% damage to you and your party. Because it lets you kite when you need to survive those seconds until your potion goes off the cooldown.

Why Magic Weapon + Force Weapon?
    Because there's never enough damage.

    Why Calamity instead of Wormhole?
Personal preference. Teleport and Illusionist are optional here, I just like to have that escape + control + AOE damage on one button that's almost always off the cooldown when I need it. Take anything you want here.

    Why Blur?
    I hate dying.

    Why Energy Armor?
I hate dying. And I like crits, so...

posted a message on DH - Your Expansion Wishlist
    Quote from Kunk

I'm at 320k dps buffed and I can solo mp10. Not so effective because of the "low" DPS but I'm tanking it just fine. I usually farm at mp7 or 8 to be a little more effective regarding XP gain/drops.
Anyone can solo MP10, the only thing that differs is efficiency.

Also, I personally hate face-tanking as a DH. I'd like to see CA changed to something like +500% CHD, - 50% Vit, -50% AR, -50% Armor. I mean, I want to play as a fragile kiter that relies on huge crits from range at MP10, but right now I can't play DH as a glass cannon, since there's simply no cannon (yes, RF is nice, but it still requires face-tanking).
