I agree with you that the 6set doesn't have any particular special brand or feeling, because its a stacking dot which make blizzard the only choice for mass wide application. That being said, its clearly epic in the overall damage it deals because its the only thing that can get wizards into deep GR's. Hopefully this will change with 2.2. I think what you are having trouble with is the play style, the set as we have agreed upon is pretty hands off and the fact that we are forced to use it in endgame could totally make people who don't like that play style feel bored, or lacking in interaction. I don't think the 6 set needs any changes and with the addition of the new 4set bonus there might be more of an epic feeling with mobs exploding in fire dmg, although its no more interactive then whats currently there.
whats desperately needed (for all classes) is OPTIONS, we need viable alternatives to further increase the choice of style that can compete with each other in endgame GR's. I by no means am a blizz fanboy but 2.2 is clearly a step in the right direction if they can balance the viability of the new sets. This problem right now isn't just with wizard either but with every class. I played a WD for a long time before getting into wizard for S2. The harvester set felt really interactive and unfortunately until 2.2 comes out your only option is to look at the endgames of each class and choose which seem the best for you. If you are sticking with wizard then your only friend right now will be patience. I personally only focus on one class per season so I can't wait for 2.2 unless 2.2 releases along with a new season in which case I will changing classes to try and keep the game fresh for me.

As a solo wiz?! If so link your profile please, I struggle with GR 40 with double unity and my gear is pretty good.

Highest I got was 35 without unity, using an ancient maximus, because you get hit so hard whenever you do get hit, with illusionist, tele was always off CD. In the right map with the right placement the demons chain is a great dps boost. Although the GR boss goes down so slow I needed a huge timer headstart. After finding the second unity, replacing the weapon with an ancient sun keeper and ditching RORG for an SOJ it bumped me up to 39. I think 40 will be possible, toughness surprisingly isn't the issue for me right now, its the timer I just can't seem to get far enough ahead of it to down GR boss. I'm starting to see how density and boss RNG matters, when you miss beating the rift by mere seconds its really disheartening.

I found an ancient sparker, and I have a really good TandT is that combo considered a viable end game option?

I too found a really good ancient Rime I tried it with the new wiz ring that casts frost nova when you take melee dmg but it didn't seem to work I think because the ring is a proc, so it falls under the "procs can't proc other procs" category, incase anyone reading this is wondering.

Sunkeeper is basically just a one handed furnace, but the low damage will mean your dots hit less hard so obviously furnace would be superior against any elite / boss, if you aren't in a greater rift I would just weapon swap when you need to. The Amazing thing about thing of the deep is the pickup radius it gives you which affects grave injustice, so if something dies from one of your dots because you missed it with a shitty SH or something then chances are you will still be in range to get the CD reduction from from GI meaning faster SH's, It also rocks because you suck in health globes from a far distance away which can be really great if you over played your hand and find yourself in a situation where you are taking damage, where as while using furnace could put you out of pick up range resulting in a death if you where desperate for a heal. So in conclusion, Furance for all out DPS, Sunkeeper / TotD for utility.
