I highly recommend at the very least purchasing a level 60 weapon with the level req reduced by x stat..makes life so much easier. You can get a modest one for 100k or so...and it's well worth dropping the gold on it. I just got my DH to 60 after roughly 30 hours of played time...1-40 via ZK normal and repeated a3 battlements runs...then 40-60 the "right" way.
Edit: Also, buy a socketed helm and get the best ruby you can in it..It won't lose its value, and saves a good amount of time...then resell after you hit 60.
After my first 60, I've found that buying +xp gear or low level legendaries with +xp will instantly resell for the same or more...use it, then pass the love on..without losing gold.

I did it prior to the patch..now I stick to farming a3 exclusively. More mobs.

Edit: I've found 2 different 5 property recipes in Inferno Whimsy...both from mushrooms, if I recall correctly.
