That would mean everyone is be able to earn 18.446.744.073.709.551.615 Gold before reaching the cap! Could take a while, to reach this cap! Even for a korean...
So there is still a cap.
Yes, a high one, but that was exactly the point of the poster you tried to disprove.
The game does ask it. The exact question is "Are you sure you want to delete <hero name>?".
Anyway, only option is to contact customer support by either phone or ticket (click "Customer service" ingame) and hope for the best. There is no point in saying it was done while he was away because they are able to see if there was any suspicious activity.
First time was during act II. I entered a camp with walls on all sides and it contained 3 packs of mobs, including one champion pack. This was a bit too much to handle.
Second time was yesterday evening. I tried the first boss of act IV, but failed big time. I guess I'll die some more in act IV.
Small update.
I finished normal last night without any additional deaths. I swapped some skills, went back to a previous quest to try them out and when I felt comfortable with those new skills I started act IV again and finished this (mini-)boss within 10 seconds.

A bit off topic, but I'll ask anyway. What happens when the courier arrives with your game and you aren't present? Is it returned to some storage in your city or something?
I guess that depends on your country, the transport company and how the store sends it. In my country (the Netherlands) you'll have some different transport companies who deliver for online stores. In one case (PostNL, they also deliver most of the normal mail) the sender might request for a signature so you have to be home, otherwise they'll try again the next day. If the sender doesn't require your signature they will most likely to try to deliver it at your neighbour. Another transport company tries one time and if you're not home you'll have to go to a local store to retrieve it.
