If it doesn't diminsh I think chain lightning will almost always be better than arc lightning.

Probably. But it will diminish. Electrocute hitting six times for 80% weapon damage is a spammable, zero-cost ability that hits for 480% weapon damage. That sounds a little too good to me.

But hey, I haven't looked closely at the other classes. Last I saw, the tooltip read jumps reduced damage. Could have been changed. Maybe it was removed altogether.

i have some questions to this build that i need to understand ...

1.) Does Magic Weapon - Electrify proc on ALL attacks? Which means also spells you cast or only when you hit with your imbued weapon ?
2.) Does Storm Armor - Shocking Aspect trigger from all spells or only from dmg dealt by Storm Armor ?
3.) Does Arcane Dynamo procc with every single dmg you deal? Meaning 1 Chain Lightning that hits 5 Targets gives you 5 charges of Arcane Dynamo or only 1 ?

very good questions we've all been asking.

It's a tough call. Arc Lightning will hit ALL targets for 80% weapon damage, probably very similar to "Cone of Cold" from WoW. Chain Lightning will hit six targets, but there's a reduced damage penalty in there for the jumps. You're not hitting all six targets for 80%. The exact mechanics are unknown, except there IS a damage penalty on "jumps" where Arc Lightning will not suffer from this.

I am sort of assuming electrocute doesn't decrease on jump anymore as that part was removed from the tooltip... It seems incredibly]unlikely that something that important would have been simplified out of the tooltip.

It's too good otherwise. It would be a startling oversight if the jump penalty was removed.

As for Arc Lightning the size of the cone is incredibly important, and from the rune videos it didn't seem big enough to hit more than 6 targets on average. (Of course it is likely better in narrow hallway zones)

I agree, I think Arc Lightning will be best used as a go-to AoE spell for a build that mostly focuses on single target, like perhaps some kind of Ray of Frost build, which lacks AE potential (Only Blizzard, really.)

Will Paralysis even be worth using, at 8% chance of stun? If you take a pack of 6 mobs (which is generous) you have a 48% chance of stunning one mob for 3 seconds. It'll take an average of two casts hitting six targets to stun a single mob. The other five proceed to eat you. Paralysis has a big question mark if it's even worth using.

Asked and answered. Paralysis is currently (I think) an 8% chance of stunning a single target. It's simply not good enough. It's easily the weakest "elemental" passive, and probably needs a redesign or DOUBLE the percentage to stun.

You do realize how many sources of Lightning are hitting targets all at once right?

-Electrocute X3 (if crits in a pack X4 potential more hits from forked lightning)
-Proc chance on Magic Weapon for X3 more hits
    -Lightning hydra X3 every second
-Storm armor rune effect, whenever I crit another strike is sent out so X1.
    - Storm armor base ability for retaliation hit X1
8% is high enough for it to proc often, stop pushing your opinion as fact.

Why are you using Forked Lightning rather then Chain Lightning?

Okay, instead of a 48% chance of stunning one more, we'll DOUBLE it, to a 96% chance of stunning one mob out of the six every GCD. Fantastic. One is stunned, and the other five killed you.

It's just a weak passive, period.

Rather than Energy Tap rune for Energy Armor, I suggest either Force or Prismatic Armor rune.

The armor choice is tricky. Here's what I'm thinking.

    Storm Armor:

Shocking Aspect, if it works on other spell crits (Like Disintegrate, Electrify, Ray of Frost et al.) seems like the absolute best armor choice. If it doesn't, the rune is useless.

Power of the Storm may be viable for a build that uses a lot of AP. Maybe channeling Arcane Torrent?

Energy Armor has a lot of potential viable choices.

Prismatic Armor is very strong if you have low resistances (and it couples well with Glass Cannon)

Energy Tap is a strong choice if you don't need the extra resistances (IE, capped in Inferno)

Pinpoint Armor is a 5% crit buff, but is probably worthless compared to Shocking Aspect (Should it work like we believe it does.)

Ice Armor looks relatively useless in it's entirety compared to Storm and Arcane choices.I don't see why you'd choose this, except if you're a masochist and choose to be a melee wizard.

I consider this the definitive Electrocute build right now. But there is a lot of unknown mechanics at play here.

It's unknown how exactly Electrocute will trigger things like Shocking Aspect, Electrify, Prodigy, or Paralysis. Will the abilities trigger from Electrocute jumps? How much is the damage penalty for the extra CL jumps? We know it's there. Will the jumps be able to criticalyl hit? (This is REALLY important) and if so, will that trigger Shocking Aspect/Electrify?

Can Arc Lightning trigger Shocking Aspect/Electrify, too, as well as (possibly) stunning hordes of mobs with Paralysis?

Will Paralysis even be worth using, at 8% chance of stun? If you take a pack of 6 mobs (which is generous) you have a 48% chance of stunning one mob for 3 seconds. It'll take an average of two casts hitting six targets to stun a single mob. The other five proceed to eat you. Paralysis has a big question mark if it's even worth using.

The passive abilities right now are really hard to call.

Is the Wizard going to be sturdy enough to take Glass Cannon even without Arcane Armor?

Will Prodigy trigger more then once on Electrocute casts? Will we even need the extra AP, or should be just go for Dynamo? Will Electrocute hits grant more then one charge of Flash of Insight?

Is Paralysis going to be worth it? All signs point to no, but it might be changed.

What kind of cooldowns will we be using? Will Critical Mass be better then Evocation? Take Frost nova, a spell I expect to use quite often. It's cooldown is 12 seconds. 15% is about 1.8 seconds off the CD. That means if we crit twice in 12 seconds, Critical Mass is about even with Evocation. If we crit three times (entirely probable) Critical Mass will be better. Maybe I won't use it on CD; maybe I'll rune it with Deep Freeze for 15% more crit? That's a lot of synergy.

But are we going to cast Frost Nova on CD? There's just so many questions we can't answer until we hit the servers on the 15th.

Another thing I really want to know:

When Arcane Dynamo triggers, and it's effect is used on Disintegrate, does the entire spell get +75% more damage, or just the first tick?

Probably only the first tick. Best to save this for a meteor, or arcane orb or something.

    How about hydras ;) ?

Going to go out on a limb here and say Hydras aren't good enough for Inferno. Drop 'em.

I like both the original builds, however I don't really think arc lightning will be better than chain lightning very often.

Electrocute may look like a bad spam skill but with high crit you be activating Forked Lightning, Shocking Aspect and Electrify quite often.

Chain Lightning is better then Forked Lightning, and perhaps Arc Lightning is best of all.

I'll be interested to hear how this build works out, because my first instinct (without actually thinking too hard about the numbers) is that you won't do enough damage on later difficulties.

    Agreed.

Except Mirror images is self centric as well. Frost Nova, Slow Time (in particular) are group-oriented defensive skills.

Lol, except you're plain wrong. Summoning 5 clones takes heat off every single one of your team mates. It's as group centric as anything you'll find.

I'm not wrong. Mirror images I doubt will be able to take more then a hit or two. They may have your life, but it's doubtful they will survive more then a very brief moment.

    Considering this build

Im of the opinion that Inferno really will be "that hard"

IE my choice for Frost Nova and Galvinizing Ward.

    Anyone have thoughts?

Galvanizing ward doesn't seem that good to me; more of a convenience spell. Since Health globes heal everyone, there is no competition to ranged to sneak in there and snatch a health globe. I think a) 350 life will be a drop in the bucket, and B) there are better passives.

I have a sneaking, maybe unwarranted, suspicion mirror images wont accomplish very much in Inferno except roll over and die.
