There was a blue post. Chill out.

There was a blue post at 11:59.

You don't think they could have posted it five hours earlier for everyone's convenience? In-game? Or on the launcher?

    Quote from Ixir

Why do people still bitch about server maintenance?

Don't people have jobs?lives?do you sleep?kids maybe? For fucks sake it's one "half day" where you don't get play a month maybe? Calm down already.

People who tell other people who are already calm to calm down are ingrates.

All I'm saying is, they could post the server maintenance times on the login page; on this occasion there was nothing there anyway.

Also, this sin't an MMO. It shouldn't be going down this often, end of story.

posted a message on Can someone please explain player skill in d3 to me?
Game requires more knowledge and resources than "skill" if "skill" is defined by "fine motor skills and response time". Period.

I guarantee 99% of D3 players couldn't "Millineum Falcon" the oil refinery towers on Operation Firestorm in Battlefield 3 piloting a jet.

There isn't an amulet you can wear with that. There's practice, and ~2 feet on each side of the jet, where you're locked in a cockpit view (hardcore mode!), and if you bump either side you explode instantly. Ideally, the guy chasing you has to break off or blow up trying to pull a stunt he wasn't planning.

That doesn't mean D3 doens't require skill- it just requires different skills.

Getting headshots is subjectively "harder" than killing champs in any situation though; especially when they're from 900 meters away in a game with bullet drop, projectile speed, and a moving, unpredictable target the size of a grapefruit; there is no resurrection and no second chance- he's there, he's going to start running if the bullet hits nearby, and you're probably going to get two shots off your bolt action at most before he's able to find cover. If you miss, your opportunity is gone forever. You can't remake and this time kill him keeping him from capturing the last flag and winning, that's it, he won, you lost, game is over, next game.

In D3 you're managing a metagame and lots of information. There's a lot of skill in that, more skill than the mechanical function of playing the game. Battlefield 3 for example is the opposite, it isn't cognitive, you need to know that the tank will blow you up, and that as the tank the C4 guy will blow you up, and everybody pretty much has the same knowledge coefficient and the defining trait is who can use 1 bullet to kill the other guy before he can do anything about it.

posted a message on Hit detection broken, dodging impossible
This thread needs to be locked. At this point you're just trolling.

Blizzard has patched the hit detection issues on flies are gone completely, and they've acknowledged that that's how this game is designed. Melee procs at a certain range and gets one chance to attack you. If you move away, they don't get a second chance. They always get one. That's the game, if you don't like it, fuck off, because there's nothing anybody here can do and nothing that will ever get done about it. That's how this game plays.

Why you're still here, crying about nothing for changes that will never happen; instead of just fucking playing Torchlight II (since that's exactly what you describe as "right") is a fucking mystery to me.

    Ahahhahahahahahhahahahhaha

Okay. I'm jelly right now that you trashed that, but it was funny. Someone had to do it once for the entire internet.

I'm pretty sure this game has given us all times when we wanted to do this.

posted a message on Blacksmith scam, the warning...
I think this scam "PAY ME TO CRAFT FOR YOU DURR!"

I almost as bad as the "PAY ME TO CARRY YOU THROUGH A BOSS ONCE!" scams.

The second one being a scam because:

A: They would do it anyway, for their own profit.

B: Drop rates in the 5% range mean you're likely to find one item in the valuable ilvl range, and at that it's unlikely to benefit you very much. It's easy to post positive reviews because it only takes a few lucky people to ignore a dozen people who basically got ripped off.

The real "solution" (see: duh) is you buy and sell the items. You don't pay each other for the vague chance at getting an item that's out of your league. You just farm up some gold and then trade that way.

Of course, that's going to be a lot more practical in the coming months when these douchnozzles stop being able to charge 5-10mil for an "average" item because the number of players who reach the threshold jump up with the patch and so do the drop chances. 1.03 is going to throw a huge wrench into all these scumbag's schemes.

posted a message on Hit detection broken, dodging impossible
You're idiots for still thinking this is a problem. This has been covered again and again.

This is a by-design mechanical choice intended to create a style of gameplay the encourages extended melee encounters in favor of "fencing". Trying to sidestep in and out of combat the entire time isn't fun, and Blizzard knows that. Some attacks are designed to be dodged by movement, and others aren't. Every example you posted is an example of "you gave them a proc, they get to try and hit you". Not a single example there is of a dodge-able attack.

    /thread.

Moves like dodge and spirit walk are meant to be fired just before a monster reaches you and launches an attack. If you can't handle the simplicity of that, I don't know what to tell you. Working as intended.

    posted a message on maintenance!?!?!!
    Quote from JenesisX

How do you figure, sports fan? Am I to assume that the fact that these problems have occurred in pretty much all Blizzard releases doesn't bother you? It's like a new car coming out, and the spokesperson for the brand saying "Yeah, sorry folks, the first few batches came out with the brakes all wrong, just like our previous 10 models, but don't worry, we'll fix it eventually". It just defies all logic that this keeps happening release after release, and people still think it's 'normal' and 'natural'.

Yeah, the sheer number of people actually making excuses for them boggles the mind.

I dunno, it doesn't seem like an excuse, it just seems like reality. When you're setting up a set of servers so large they're going to serve the entire planet there is probably a lot of room for error there. We as external viewers probably aren't seeing the whole story; just that something isn't working.

I mean they've got three sets of servers at least for sure: authentication, data/stat table delivery, character cloud/achievement save

I think if you're expecting this to not happen at all you aren't respecting how complex computer programming and network design are.
