These are the numbers I've been looking for. Thanks for this post!
As I thought, I definitely got WAY too much defensive stats at the cost of DPS. I'm around 200k ehp, which is way more than needed for force armor to work, but also way, way, way too little for me to be able to play without it. Sounds like I'd need to be pushing will over 500k EHP to make prismatic armor the better choice again.
I used it up until Inferno Act 2. With cascade, it was great for clearing out packs, and was awesome in damage of damage/ap.
In Act 2, it did not seem to be viable, because too many things were too damn fast and required too much stutter step kiting, which torrent doesn't really facilitate. I may try it again now that I'm in act 3, but I'm working on getting my DPS up a bit before I invest too much time into Act 3. That means lots of Act 1 farming, since I hate Act 2 with a fiery, burning, passion. In my DPS gold find gear, I'm around 15k DPS and 160% gold find, which is enough to blast through most of Act 1 just fine. Sometimes I need to put on a few better pieces to avoid getting one shot.
If I'm feeling really lazy, I can just run in circles in the royal crypt with my 324%gf gear. It's boring, but tbh it's more reliable than farming Act 1 or Act 2, and certainly more fun than dealing with certain packs of ninja naga, lacuni, sand lizards, or god forbid those awful exploding ghouls.
And wasps.
Ahh, those lovely, lovely wasps.
Act 2 definitely contains the highest concentration of monster types that I would celebrate to have taken out of the game.
You folks that dislike torrent, have you tried cascade? Even after the unfortunate nerf, it does pretty amazing AOE damage against packs. Also, interestingly enough, it does STUPID damage against illusionist elites. For every dead illusion, you get 175% damage flying at the real ones. I've nearly one shot illusionists with it.
Well into hell I used chain lighting + prodigy heavily to facilitate disintegrate spam. I may try it in inferno when my gear is good enough that I don't have to spend as much time running away like a scared little girl. For the time being, I prefer the higher single target damage and ease of use while stutter stepping of seeker MM, and being able to fire around corners is nice.

just out of curiosity, u were getting 2 shot with that armor and those res with prismatic armor? what was your hp and damage?
ps: Im also interested in a database of monsters not only damage wise but also their hp in general and other useful things to know.
Damage an A 3 definitely qualifies as "stupid", but at least there aren't as many cheesy mechanics as A2.
So true!!
And the mob types in Act II are also far worse in my opinion.
In Act III the only really annoying and often unkillable packs for me were those tongue-spitting small twats in the Keep depths. Their 1 tongue attack almost 1 shots you and they are way too fast to kite (and there's no room to do that anyway in the keep depths...).
Those are some of my least favorite mobs in the. I'd STILL rather die to them than to Ninja Naga or those stupid fast ghouls though. At least in Hell I was often able to kill the frog f*ckers (that's what my buddies and I call them :-p) IF I could keep them mostly off screen and LOS them. If they're too much of a bitch to kill that way in Inferno, I'll probably try out mirror images.
do you use a nice shield?(high block% and highest block amount, I believe that last kind blocks 3k-4.7k or something like that). It seems 25k dps is way too low though even if you are sitting on very high res/armor you simply need a good amount of DPS so u can clear things fast enough on act 3 I suppose.
With the orb, my DPS is REALLY poopy. I've been farming Royal Crypts a bit (go go 230% gf, 30 yard pickup and frozen storm) to save up enough gold to buy a better weapon, but I also just have very little gear with IAS or crit since I focused so heavily on resists and armor.
Trying to figure out exactly how much EHP I need for force armor to reduce hits to 35% from most Act 3 (inferno) monsters. I got through Act 2 stacking defensive stats, and coming into Act 3 I've realized that they're entirely useless. Even with 6.5k armor/800 resists I was getting two shot by fallen grunts. I want to see how much I can afford to give up for DPS stats before I become 100% squishy.
The servers are so dead this time that I can't even connect to the launcher or Blizzard's forums. Not even that little "Battle.net is undergoing maintenance!" thing. The play button on the launcher remains greyed out, it never connects to the news/updates server.
Not really. I didn't at all on my Wiz, I had only had 500DPS or so going into it, along with under 2k hp. I got royally owned by a few elite packs (mortar + molten = wtf ouch). Mortar + shielding was pretty rough too. So far I've managed to make it through everything, almost up to SK now. I only played for about an hour and a half last night, so I'm not moving much slower than expected despite no farming and a lot of pretty mediocre gear (Most of it pre-30).
You may need to swap skills around specifically for certain elite packs, but it should be doable.
Now I seem to be stuck without timing out. Maybe I'll try resetting everything like Blizzard CS suggested, I'm sure that'll fix a few million people trying to log into their servers at once *roll eyes* http://twitter.com/#!/blizzardcs
I think it was pretty dumb of them to not stagger NA launch times to correlate with local midnight. That would have slowed the flow of traffic significantly.
It also seems odd that they haven't implemented some sort of queueing system to deal with this heavy traffic. It'd allow them to throttle traffic and avoid the crapshoot of spamming enter.
They let me use it as my BattleTag, SC2 name, WoW character names, and character names in the beta. It seems very odd that it would suddenly be censored. Would kinda annoy me TBH.
Not only am I getting the time out error, but when I tired to make my Barbarian, it told me his name was inappropriate... I see no way a nonsense name like "Putok" that I created over a decade ago could possibly be offensive. I just googled it to see if I was missing anything, and apparently it's a Tagalog word that means "explosion", but there's no what that's inappropriate either.

EDIT: Nevermind, it seems to have fixed itself...

"Unable to create hero due to party state."
Must be a rare spawn they threw at me.
