I loved racing the ladder in hardcore and did it many times in 1.10+. Towards the end with the rampant botting (especially baal botting), it really lost its fun. However, considering D3 will work differently, I really don't see a ladder happening unless it tracks achievements or some inferno statistic as mentioned.
I really think MF is a hallmark D3 stat. I would be really sad if it was removed from the game. It supports making more than one character with certain goals in mind. MF sorc, hammerdin for baals, smiter, etc.
I've been playing SWTOR for a month and a half but the game is starting to get boring. I used to play A LOT of LoL but that has somewhat died off too - the community and anger in that game really gets to be sometimes. Right now, I've been playing old GBA/SNES games with emulators to pass the time...my friend and I are going to play through D2 tonight on TCP/IP so he can know the story (never played before, and I've convinced him D3 will be awesome!).
