Primary (LMB) Deadly Reach w/ Foresight Rune
This will be my main attack skill. From watching Monk videos I find that this skill is extremely useful as a main attack because it can deal good damage with enough reach to keep you in control and out of trouble. Because this is my main damage dealer I went with straight up Foresight Rune.
Secondary (RMB) Crippling Wave w/ Concussion
This will be my defensive crowd control attack with good AoE. Since I'm using this attack more for its utility than its damage I chose to add Concussion to it for more damage mitigation. I decided to bind both my focus generators to both mouse buttons so that I can combo them together lot easier.
Defensive (1) Lashing Tail Kickw/ Spinning Flame Kick
I put this spell here as my main focus spending damage dealer. This seems to be the highest damage focus spender and I rune for the most possible damage.
Conviction (2) Dashing Strike w/ Flying Side Kick
This is my mobility spell. It's here to escape danger or chase down pesky runners and stun them in place with the Flying Side Kick rune.
Techniques (3) Mantra of Healing w/ Time of Need
This ability is here for when I need healing (obviously =). I'll use this to heal up or add some resistance when I need it with the Time of Need rune.
Focus (4) Mantra of Conviction w/ Overawe
This will be my main Mantra. And I'm using for its raw damage boost. The best defense is a good offence! I rune it to increase its main purpose, DAMAGE!
Passive Skills:
Near Death Experience - I'm not using a lot of defensive abilities or damage mitigation, so I'm sure this ability is going to come in handy for times when I just can't escape.
One With Everything - Resistances are going to be very important I think, especially when you’re in melee combat and can’t always get to that caster in the back. Combined with Time of Need rune, I think this will help a lot.
Combination Strike - More damage! Because I have two focus generators on my mouse buttons I can’t easily maintain a 16% damage increase at all times.
And that's it.
Thank you for hosting this contest and good luck to everyone!
I would love to play D2 again (I'm in no way new to it) however D2 doesn't work on my computer/screen size. I can play it in a tiny window, but that's no fun.
I do agree though, despite the graphics being very dated it's still an awesome game.
There's a mod that lets you expand the window / use bigger resolutions. I don't know if I can post it here, but it's an easy google search away with the right keywords ;o
I tried the mod and only got a black screen, it just wont load. I have an M14x laptop with a 24" screen. Apparently the mod can get you banned as well. Something to do with having a unfair advantage seeing more of the world at a higher resolution or just breaking the EUA.
Of course they cant just heal eachother all match, the class is not designed that way. You attack, do damage, build spirit, pop a defensive skill if you need to and heal. If powerful enough it could make the difference of surviving just long enough to land a kill or getting killed. Combined with skills like Serenity it's going to be tought to rush down a monk. Bubble, heal, repeate. I have a feeling the monk is going to be a force to be reckoned with.

Yes but only to track your own damage. And target dummies in town. It would be great to test out different skills, combos and weapons to see what's outputting more damage. Of course this would would only work for single target damage but it's still a great point of comparison to other skills. Target dummies in WoW added a great deal of theory crafting and min/maxing to the game. Which is what farming gear is all about =D
Cheat Death worked really well for Rogues in WoW and blizzard managed to balance it to the point where it didn't become OP'ed. I don't think it will be an issue for Monks. It's a really nice fall back for when you get a unlucky dogde chain. Unlike the Barb who midigates damage via armor at more consistant rate, the Monks relies on dodge which is a lot more random. A few burst hits that dont doge could kill you.
How powerful do you think the Monks healing has the potential to be and do you think at some point every team will want one?
I'm guessing at some point some sort of Breath of Heaven Mantra of Retribution spec with some nice item bonuses will appear and dominate PvP. Until blizz nerfs it of course =P
What are you thoughts? Will a healer class dominate pvp?
At first i wanted to play a Demon hunter becuase I like ranged classes and kiting mobs around, etc. But after watching the Monk playthrough on youtube. I'm in love. I wasn't too impressed with some of the Demon Hunters skills, like caltrops and evasive fire always bumping into walls, plus the Hatred/Dicipline resource seems a little clunky ATM. However, high level multishot and strife may change my thoughts on the BH.
As for the Monk, all of his abilities look awesome and chaining combos together end game seems like it's going to add a lot of depth to the monks playstyle and really allow a skilled player seperate himself from the norm.
Good, because it allows you to explore new areas and challange different mobs for the same chance of getting loot. It also prevents everyone from min/maxing a specific class or spec to farm one boss. Like Maphisto runs in D2.
