Give me at least 2008 graphics and I'd trade D3 for D2 anytime. I'd even pay 60$ for it, nothing changed to gameplay (except maybe potions spamming removed) just updated graphics (and not even today's graphics).
Personally, I am suprised no one came up with some kind of patch that would basicly just upscale the whole game via a post processing shader. Just enough so it can smooth pixels out to be a bit easier on the eyes. À-la- SNES emulators upscale filters.
I doubt it would do the trick to make it acceptable to play again. But on a side note there are already custom patches that enables higher resolution, but it doesnt scale with the action bar so it looks weird.
Anyways, beside some limited gameplay features, D2 was so amazing in terms of art style (for its time indeed) and the environments were always fun to play over and over (and more randomized than D3 linear acts/lacks of dungeons). I'm so underwhelmed by D3 in those aspects... too bad Blizz North didn't live to make D3.

A lot more colorful.

I'm guessing a lot of parts from the "game guide" will be revamped (at least would need to be) once the possible Jay post will be up. But something tells me we won't have any official informations by the end of the day.

Haha, well in any case you all deserves two thumbs up for working this hard for us!

And I will definitely play solo for my first playthrough so I can take my time to experience things and enjoy the quests/story/exploration at my own pace.

If you want to change your class "style", change your rune/skill set and get other equipments, no need to start a new character, which for me is a great thing they went that way with D3.
So 10 characters is fine since you'll be able to create one of each class, in both softcore and harcore.

Personnally I'd like to see something similiar to the Paladin and one like the Amazon.
But a totally new class would be even better, though I don't have any idea of which innovative class would fit well into Diablo.

That said I'll never do a PvP putting my character on the table for the fight. Simply because I'll be ****ing frustrated to loose so many invested time against a human instead of a Cpu.
But, I would definitely love to see this implemented in the game just to watch epic duels.

I play a lot more for the Diablo setting in general than the lore itself, I don't really care what happen in the world of Diablo, but I care about its world as a whole (artistically and technically speaking). Don't get me wrong I like the story but I'm not very exited to know what it has in store.
But in the end the action and the mechanics are what really defines Diablo in my opinion, so If I had to chose I'll got with "Action".

I chose the Wizard because most of the time in RPGs I played as melee classes, and I never really played as a Sorcerer in Diablo 2. And the Wizard simply looks really cool to play with all those shiny animations and cool spells (I'm looking at you "Slow time").
But like everyone I'm looking forward to level-caping every class eventually (in softcore). The Demon Hunter will probably be the second class I'll play a lot with because of her/his varied abilities.

I totally agree with both of your points.
Communication will be a mess if it is to be cross consoles/PC. And FFXI was for me a huge disapointment, it definitely felt it was made for consoles and playability on PC was a total mess, so D3 (PC version we know so far) would be on consoles if it was to be released.
Diablo 3 might see the day sometime on consoles, but I seriously doubt it'll we cross platform. Simply because a console controller will be in no way as efficient as a mouse/keyboard combo on Inferno. That said I wouldn't want to play with a console player on Inferno. It would be like playing with consoles players when you are on a PC shooter, an handicap.
And note that I'm gaming as much on PS3 as I am on PC.

I've been visiting Dfans (news and forums) every day since the beginning of the closed beta but I never registered because I felt it was already time-consuming only to visit and watch the forums.
But, yeah, the new beta keys contest made me register, so here I am.
Since this is a gaming forum I'll simply introduce myself by giving you a short idea of my gaming history.
I'm 23 years old so I made my debut as a gamer in the SNES era. Played hundreds of games, but mainly Super Mario World.
I began playing RPGs with Final Fantasy 7 (which is still my favorite game of all time) and played all the series or almost since 7 (including FF6 on the snes indeed).
Then came Diablo 2, I litteraly played hundres of hours of D2 and played it for years, until I couldn't stand the fact that I was more trading than actually playing (and the fact that it was getting old in a lot of ways).
After that, there was the golden era of the PS2, I probably played every single AAA games available of it or so. But the titles I enjoyed the most were the Metal gear solid series.
I also had a sega Dreamcast but, we all know the sad story if this ephemeral gaming system.
I currently own a PS3 but I don't keep games for a long time since I trade them in while they still worth something (and I'm still at school so I can't spend 60$ on every game I buy). Inevitably I still play PC games. I played a lot of WoW but grew tired of it after I reached the level cap for a month. I played a lot of shooters but now my machine is not good enough for titles like Battlefield 3 so... But at least I estimate I will be fine to run D3 on medium high so I'm fine so far.
Anyway this is getting way too long for a short story. So see you on the forum guys.

And the reasons why I can't wait for D3 are multiple:
-I know (at least I have a lot of confidence) that it will be what everyone expect it to be = the game they'll play hours and hours for at least a couple years.
-Diablo 2 is probably the game I played the most in my life (right after Final Fantasy 7 back in the days).
-Diablo 3 is (so far, we'll see after the rune system is finally released) to me exactly what it needed to be. It has fixed every flawed mechanics that Diablo 2 had:
- Manual stats allocation (freedom of choice led to many non-optimal characters)
- Skill system (being unable to respec also led to a lot of non-optimal characters and time lost in D2, and even if the final skill system is not known, I'm sure Blizzard will end up with something fun and fair)
- Loot system (the fastest clicker ended up with the best loot)
- The addition of an "ultimate" difficulty level (the fact that Inferno requires to reach the level cap is a brilliiant idea)
- Online-only. (To me the fact that the game is playable only on B.net is great. Simply because it forces you to play in "persistance-only mode" for me will give everything more sense to everything I do. And it will also put every single Diablo 3 player in connection, everyone will be in the same boat and will be able to interact with each others by default.)
