I usually just speed run through the Royal Crypts, then when i get to the Skeleton King Door, i exit and start a new game and do it all over again. Usually ill get 3 or 4 goblins per 10 runs.
I'm fairly new to D3 in the past few months and I just started farming for these pets a bit. Past few days I've been reading threads and watching some videos on preferred paths, thus far with absolutely no luck. I've been running most of the Act I locations and some of the others listed as well but I have yet to find a Menagerist. I've found all sorts of other goblins including a few rainbows (though no wings). I've also been running for the Zombie, but also no luck.
Looking through this thread I saw your post and gave it a shot. I ran only the Royal Crypts and would re-create a game once I reached the end. Here are my numbers:
Runs 1-15: Only found 2 goblins, 1 Treasure, and 1 Was a Menage. So got my first pet off this, yay! (2 total goblins)
Runs 16-30: 4 Goblins straight all treasure and gem hoarders, eventually got another Menage, then a couple more goblins; (7 total this round)
Runs 31-45: Blood Thief, Odious Collector, Gelatinous Sire, Treasure, Treasure (5 total)
At 45, based on the numbers I was seeing I said I would stop myself as soon as I got Pet #3
Runs 46 - 60: Odious Collector, Treasure; (2 total)
Runs 61 - 75: Odious Collector, Insufferable Miscreant, Malevolent Tormentor (2 total)
Runs 76 - 90: On Run 76 I found a Gem Hoarder who opened the Treasure Vault (inside was a blood thief, gem hoarder, and treasure goblin but I didn't count these since they're in the vault), Blood Thief (2 total this round not including those in the Vault)
Runs 90 - 100: Treasure, Gilded Baron, Treasure, Treasure, Run 99 I got my 3rd Menage for my 3rd pet. Ran run 100 for good measure and got a gilded baron.
Overall: 9 Treasure Goblins, 4 Gem Hoarders, 2 Malevolent Tormentors, 3 Odious Collectors, 2 Blood Thieves, 1 Gelatinous Sire, 1 Insufferable Miscreant, 2 Gilded Barons, 3 Menagerists in 100 Runs of the Royal Crypts. I also opened 1 Treasure Vault at run 76 (in which was another Treasure Goblin, Blood Thief, and Gem Hoarder; these were not counted since they were in the vault.
Things of note:
- Did not see any rainbow goblins this method. I'm not sure if that's RNG or if there is perhaps a set drop in this location
- The Crypt is an easy direction ie. you just teleport in one straight line
- All menagerists I found were strictly at the end of the crypt in the fenced location, all other goblins were scattered in different parts of the crypt (unsure if this is RNG or on purpose).
- I did this for about 2 hours straight; it feels really grindy and I'm definitely not getting pet numbers like some of these other posts or videos where people are saying they got ~ 20 pets in 5 hours. The bottleneck here was remaking the games constantly
TLDR: 100 Crypt runs: 27 Total Goblins, 3 Menagerists. Also 1 Treasure Vault (+3 goblins inside).
