As per your criticism of "derivations and mythology" I suggest you read Book of Cain. It would clear up your obvious misconception that the story follows a judeo-christian similarity.
It is perhaps one of the worst things a writer can possibly do to create a character that
lacks purpose other than to serve as a plot device.
Maybe, but that is what was done way before Diablo 3. Read up on the story/legend of Anu.
Leah watches her only known surviving family get tortured
and murdered, leaving her an orphan -- and she barely notices for the rest of the story.
Nothing is more annoying than a bitch crying over the same shit for half of the story. The extent to which she mourned was appropriate, as every time I talk to her I don't want to hear her crying.
I agree with your statement on the lack of deceit from the Lord of Lies.
Azmodans lack of tactical prowess is easily proven and disappointing as well. But being the Lord of Sin is definite unworthy title for the persona in which Blizzard wishes to give him. But in an extreme extent, it is not.
"Azmodan is the master of temptation, of causing those who old steadfastly to princeiples and beliefs to ultimately betray them... [Azmodan] defines the universe through the extremes that one is willing to go to" -Book of Cain.
We see from this, Azmodan wishes to (very loosely interpreted) want us commit sin. I believe this is where his title comes from.
If you would look into it, Cydeae was originally a concept (pre-Blizzcon09). It was after such a high positive feedback from their concept was her position in the game solidified. This is alluded to in the CE art book.
- Heaven is a neoclassical arrangement of bridges built for the sole purpose of supporting
large quantities of vases containing blue water.
lol yes, the high heavens are.
In your criticism of a4, you go back to the judeo-christian belief that Diablo wants to return to heaven and so on. Seriously, the original creation of the diablo story, way before D3, each of the evils were an 'essence' manifested into physical form (in addition to angiris council). Their essence is the purpose for which they act. They grow stronger from their essence, so the more you are afraid, the stronger Diablo is.
Tyrael chose to be mortal because as an immortal, he was bound solely to the aspect of which he was created, justice. Without these binds, his capabilities broaden. He wished not to serve with Valor, as Valor was not in fact inflicting in-Justice. You, like some other people I've seen post similar (but less fun to read) threads make the incorrect assumption that when you die you go to heaven (or hell). The afterlife is one shrouded in mystery to everyone. Angels and Demons are not aspects of an 'afterlife' but instead on par with the nephalem of sanctuary, in that, as far as we know, there is nothing before or after. I think if you read into the actual lore of the Diablo Universe, you would be heavily dissapointed, more than you are now (because there are so so many inconsistencies with D3 and the lore behind it), BUT!! you wouldn't have so many misconceptions that lead to alot of your ranting.
On another note too, the Diablo we fight is the supposed "prime" evil. The evil is an essence, not a physical being of certain form. He adopted the form of the daughter to Adria and Diablo, as it is the vessel with which his physical presence was rebuilt. (and if you read into it, he either is a) not truly the prime evil or blizzard sucks)
