posted a message on RMAH - My issue, no more elitism
My issue with the RMAH aren't that it:
    -messes up PVP
-is Blizzard trying to make an extra dime
    -encourages farming

I'm just going to come out and say it:
-My issue with the RMAH is that it ruins elitism / uniqueness / tiers of players.

I don't want to be assumptive, but I'd say that the majority of D2's playability was for the love of the gearhunt, the chance of an extremely rare item dropping, and for the love of MF. I loved D2 for this reason.

That said, my personal issue with the RMAH is it could take away from this. Does it bug me that someone else could simply buy a nicer item than me? No, not really, but I'd say it's relitive. If these items go for a relitively high price, say $50, then go for it. But if farming becomes so rampant, as a direct result of the RMAH being implimented, and super elite items are deflated to just a few bucks and thus everyone has them, then I say what's the point? (this is a statement my personal opinion and won't be swayed with other people's explanations)

Sure, I too enjoy the hunt for the sake of the hunt. But I also liked feeling unique (IE rare) as a result as well. Look at WoW. The game completely changed post Vanilla Naxx when arenas, PVP and emblems were released.

I'm curious about hearing from other people who come out and agree with this. You too liked gearhunting in D2 for the rarity amongst the community. So save your devil's advocate replies if you disagree, which I know many will. Yes, I like elitism. Yes, I compare myselves to others in a lolvideogame. Yes, I think it's funny that I'd worry about other people's gaming when compared to mine. And yes, this is why I play online, not offline, in the first place. I like communities, I like focus groups, I like heirarchies and I like tiers. This is what made Vanilla WoW and D2 enjoyable and is what personally made me excited to get better - to have rare stuff that I was proud of because not everyone else did. And not because I'm actually egotistical or even jealous at heart, beacuse I'm not. Rather, all of this simply for the love of the hunt for rare goodies! I don't consider something rare if everyone else has it, no matter the color of the item's writing.

TLDR: RMAH gives an incentive (RM) for people to farm who otherwise wouldn't care to farm. More people farming = deflation of rarity. This is undeniable.

What's deniable is my opinion of this actual deflation. Some could say who cares about deflation. I personally do care. If not, why should there be rare items in the first place...?
