Feb 26, 2014lorien1973 posted a message on Are You Prepared for 2.0.1?I found more upgrades tonight than I did in the past 8 months playing this thing. I didn't gain a lot of damage, but a ton of survivability. 2 Legendaries - one lets me avoid damage by arcane and heal for it too - so one boss affix is completely negated). Other was vendor trash.Posted in: News
Pets seem nearly unkillable - which is odd. But they are less "tanky" the mobs don't go for them as much as they used to.
Overall, pretty enjoyable experience. Paragon levels came pretty quick too. -

If I were making a truly difficult fight, I'd introduce some chaos into it. Having 4-5 bosses with patterns everyone recognizes surely isn't the way to go. I'd drop some yellow/blue mobs in there with, say, 6 random affixes. Chaos. I'd argue that, if tuned right, a few yellows would be more challenging than that fat gassy guy (whatever his name is, who cares).Quote from Depthsofhellluckily you don't have to do it then lorien. and you got any suggestions?...
But let's face it, boss fights in video games are a relic of platform games where you fight the big dude at the end. That doesn't make sense. It'd make a ton more sense if the "Boss" was weaker than, say, his henchmen that were the muscle. He'd be the brains or the one creating anarchy into a life or death situation. So, I'd suggest more "council" type fights - but I'd also give these things an ability set of say, 40 abilities (possibly including the regular elite affixes) that he throws out on a given timer. Less: Whirlwind, teleport, summon, repeat. More "what's he going to throw at me now."
IE more "Noth the Plaguebringer" less "Lich King" type stuff.
But that's me. -

What a weird world these people must live in; where your initial idea cannot be iterated upon. -

I have no idea how the story for Act 5 begins, so maybe it begins like this.
To me, it would be really cool if Act 5 started with you looking for the black soulstone after the events of Act 4. You find it eventually but are thwarted by Imperius, whom you fight. He gets to like 10% health, and he flies away (with the stone). You follow him to heaven to obtain it, under this idea above where you see it corrupting the heavens. You reach it, but are thwarted by the big boss in the expansion. Whom you follow to westmarch.
This could be the premise of Act 5, who knows. But I'd rather play it than read it. -

It'd be nice if this were done on the live server too. A bit of incentive to play the live server while waiting. Very little point in farming beta at all.

The random nature of legendary drops makes it impossible that everyone will be happy. It might a ton more sense if legendaries were crafted from materials that drop from various elites/bosses/events around the world. For more powerful ones, it just takes more of those materials.Quote from eman41
So before there was a faction of people complaining that legendaries were too common and they would get everything, becoming boored a month into the game. Now they slow that down a bit (for testing only to try some things), and another faction complains. Game design, everyone! -

It's not jealousy. It just looks bad on screen. I'm not sure if you are in the beta or have seen beta footage; but a huge 9,540,317 on screen looks stupid. Bosses with 17 gabillion hitpoints to compensate looks stupid as well.
It's pretty similar to inflation in some third world African country, right? 17 kabillion dollars might look good there; but when it only buys a loaf of bread, it's far less impressive. 9 million damage might look good to you; but when it really does 0.01% of the monster's health; what's the point?
There are multiple solutions; but here's the easiest. Instead of something doing 500% weapon damage, have it do 5% instead. That'd cut your 9540317 hit to a number that's more relatable. Adjust mob health to match.

Just watching some twitch feeds of level 70 toons, the damage numbers are way too high. 10 million damage on a hit?
I know the games need to be balanced around people who have 350k dps from the rmah; but c'mon. These numbers are ridiculous.

I'm curious what the maximum % cooldown reduction is, assuming you have it on all possible items. Around 50% ?

Did get a legendary and a set plan, though.
I think, though, that the game is more aligned with finding maximum density of mobs (that drop loot) and doing that. This run is decent because some of the mobs that drop elite level loot are basically white mobs with lots of health, but they still die quickly.

I played for like an hour and didn't feel the need to go back.

The original design made sense that bosses should not really drop better loot. They are painfully predictable fights that are easily farmed.

I'm more upset with your English teacher.

And? You make choices, that's what life is about. Them forcing a certain selection at a certain level is dumb. So what if I want to stick all my points in movement speed at first? Why should Blizzard care?
It's a lot like the removal of talent trees in WoW. It's been replaced with a bunch of false choices. Everyone knows where you are going to put that point. So why bother letting us assign it at all? Choices, but no real choices at all. And that's why Blizzard games are becoming sucky - they've taken away your ability to make real choices.

Is D3 better than it was a few patches ago? Sure, I think so. Does it matter anymore? Nope.

Upon release, it was a game about playing the auction house.
Now it's a game about crafting loot.
