With the announcement of ROS I was skeptical, but with 2.0 I got hooked I started playing vigorously again. All that being said, I only write you that little narrative give a small synopsis of how much I played for what is coming next. All in all I had about... 100 hours "played" (not sure if sitting on the AH with a character selected counts as play time, but I don't think so). Not so much for a game been out for almost 2 years.
In the last couple weeks, I started playing HC, and cashing out pretty much everything I had on SC through selling gems on the RMAH. I ended up getting about $50 back, (netting $30). I say this not to brag that I made a little money, but to paint a picture that someone playing casually and not really with any intent to try and make money, ended up getting close to paying for the expansion for "free." (I did have fun while playing with friends, so I consider it to be free)
So my question to you good people -- Did anyone actually attempt to make money the whole time D3 was out? Because... there seemed to be a HUGE opportunity to make some real money for those with enough time and patience. Sniping auctions, creating arbitrage through gems (when the prices dropped) before the market can catch up, buying thousands of flawless diamonds for 62 each the first day they came on the market and then selling them for 200k a pop. I'd love to hear how you filled your pockets based on dumb people's auctions.
We can call it... Diablo's lifestyles of the rich and shameless?
Post your stories! Anyone who's made over $100, post the screen shot of your RMAH transaction window so we can measure your gaming economics epeen. Have fun!
Edit: Not sure how to post pictures here ---http://postimg.org/image/6u62kf36x/ (reason I have 30 on b.net balance instead of 50, I got the bright idea to try and put stuff on the RMAH after I had preordered, d3... so I just upgraded my reg game for the $20 extra deluxe)

Is it a part of the atmosphere?

GL botting in HC D3 and having a graveyard full of champions.
Banning bot accounts means those "companies" buy more copies of the game. Blizzard makes more money.

Because the masses are retarded. Its the same reason why people think they can still pull the same dps with MF as someone without MF who is leeching their MF. I do see the problem with your own MF, however there is also a problem with it being divided equally.

Compromise. Let people put their money where their mouth is. It would reward people who have "killing power," the original basis of the entire argument.

I think that is a valid point. I was actually going to go with the 6 Offensive vs 5 Offensive and 1 MF, but I started looking at the current data mined affixes... http://diablonut.incgamers.com/affixes. Hopefully there will be more when the game is released, but when I was quicky going over it, I couldn't find 6 legitimate Offensive affixes. But on your point, sure, playing optimally the person with 6 offensive affixes vs 5 offensive affixes in theory can pump out more damage, but in that same regard, if they aren't playing to your same skill level why should they be rewarded?
That's why I have slowly adjusted my position to HeyseusKristos's point. http://us.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/4138436108?page=1

http://us.battle.net/d3/en/artisan/blacksmith/recipe/exalted-grand-sovereign-helm We're both wearing this same helm.
It has 6 stats on it. Lets say that of our 2 items, 5 of the stats are the exactly the same. We're both wizards for simplicity. If you need to see the list of current affixes go for it: http://diablonut.incgamers.com/affixes
Lets say this item has: 5 offensive affixes and +MF on mine, and 6 offensive affixes on yours, but ATM there don't even seem to be 6 offensive affixes, so your 6th is globe radius or even a defensive stat.
Its true that MF is not free, but given the alternatives, you can trade a stat for MF and still have the same killing power.

This. I don't know why there can't be a meet in the middle solution. People who are for averaging MF basically come out with a straw man saying "If you are going for MF you have 0 dps, if you go for offensive stats you 1 shot everything."
At high end gear levels, the difference might be 1-2 hits, if that. Again, we aren't talking blues with MF only as the stats, we are talking rares and legendaries with offensive stats with the added bonus of MF.

There is so much 1 dimensional thinking here. Lets say we are both wearing this. http://us.battle.net/d3/en/artisan/blacksmith/recipe/exalted-grand-sovereign-helm
Yours has 5 offensive stats and 1 stat thats +gold find, +health globe radius, +thorns, (light radius, jokez) or possibly another stat that is less optimal and mine has MF.
Remind me again, how do you do have more "killing power" than I do?

What are your thoughts? These are mine:
Not to spark politics (or even my jaded views on them), but grouping in D3 and averaging MF, is pretty much like a socialist economy, - "We share all the benefits regardless of participation." Where solo play = capitalism, in that "you eat what you kill."
In the grand scheme of things if you have friends of the same skill / gear as yourself then ultimately this doesn't matter but with the current collective averaging of MF, there is a lack of incentive to group with random players.
How do you feel about averaging Magic Find?
