posted a message on Achieving GR11 and higher

Yeah and you can also have someone (a friend, clanmate, a random stranger in chat, etc) open a higher GRift for you and that will unlock that GRift level and all the levels below it.

As far as being able to play in those higher GRifts successfully, it is a combination of having experience playing your build and just constantly upgrading and optimizing your gear, getting ancients and augmenting them, upgrading your gems,,, building up your paragon levels and that sort of thing. It will feel like you hit a glass ceiling with most builds until you get all those things done.
Also be aware that you may watch a video of someone just destroying a high level GRift with your build on Youtube- they probably have perfect gear and have a few thousand paragon levels and maybe a few thousand hours playing the general build. They might have had to "fish" for the perfect GRift (the right monster type and density, the right pylons, the right RG).
Join a clan and run in a party as much as possible. Do what is fun for you and eventually you will get to their level. GL

posted a message on POLL: How rare should Primal Ancients be!?

[When you create a new thread there is a button on the bottom left under the dialog box to "add a poll".]

What I want is for that primal ancient (no matter how long it took to farm or what percentage the drop rate) to be useful to my build or at least an obvious build in that character's class (e.g. Lets say someone is playing UE grenades and they get a PA Manticore- not useful for UE but it creates excitement for a Marauders build). So maybe 5% drop rate on items that have no magical effect and 1% on others. Really the only thing PAs do is make sure there are perfect ancients out there. If I look at my nonseasonal gear I can't imagine much difference between current gear and PA gear.
I will also say that the lower the drop rate the more important it is to me personally that Blizz conducts regular bans. I hate to think that some botter is getting fully geared with PAs and I'm barely getting any. Whether it has any real impact is another question, but it will make me feel better about playing.

It's funny because now you notice how shabby the gems are in the stash (+1 do something else with the gems)... and the only ones you really use are imperials (for rerolling jewelry) and flawless royals.

If you only need 2 types of gems, then why don't you just get rid of all the other types of gems you have?
Seriously, 90% of those "I have no space left" issues are because people can't just throw garbage away...
I meant "you" in the general sense of everyone. I do dirty things with my gems (don't judge!). I loves 'em all. Anything that Blizz can do to help keep them clean and tidy is greatly appreciated.

posted a message on Patch 2.5.0 Crafting Mat Storage

The QOL improvements in 2.5.0 are pretty nice, but yeah it would be great for Blizz to take another look at increasing the stack count for everything left (that stacks). It's funny because now you notice how shabby the gems are in the stash (+1 do something else with the gems)... and the only ones you really use are imperials (for rerolling jewelry) and flawless royals.
Maybe they can sneak in a few more improvements during the PTR.

posted a message on What follower do you use?

Agree it would be nice if followers felt like they helped out more- although they are much better than early D3 days.

For DH I use scoundrel for the range, knockback from lightning-rolled windforce and use control-impairing or damage skills. Oculus, wyrdward, and Ess/Overwhelming/Haunt just whatever I find. Scoundrel easy to gear on a DH and the knockback is amazing for those fast/flying elites.

For melee toons I use templar with lightning wep, oculus, wyrdward, whatever ammy (above), and freeze of deflection. All control-impair skills (intervene, intimidate, charge, inspire for resource regen).

Sometimes I will speedfarm with enchantress and use the follower token that gives her all the skills... just for fun.

posted a message on Staff Of herding Recipe??

The plan for the staff of herding drops from Izual in Act 4. I'm pretty sure it will drop on any difficulty, but as a rule of thumb it's a good idea to run the highest difficulty level you can run efficiently/quickly.
5% drop rate (Blizz has said at times they increase or decrease this drop rate but we don't really know): so count on having to kill him 20 times to get the plan to drop, but hopefully won't take that many runs... although RNG (calculated in part with a Random Number Generator) means it could take more than 20.
If you are hunting cosmetics then look for a cosmetics community where many folks have already made the staff and party up with them. Rock onward.

Edit: Get the parts in Adventure mode. Those guides are great but a little outdated.

    Quote from Makoez»

Don't you have a router with build in firewall?

My router does indeed have a limited built-in firewall and I block a few things from there.

    Quote from Makoez»

And why do you want to block outbound traffic?

I want to block outbound traffic mainly for privacy/security reasons.

For example, I don't trust Microsoft not to collect my private information or to properly guard the information that they do collect. Also, I know that occasionally I might pick up a trojan, etc. that will attempt to "phone home" or try to communicate out to install more malicious software, etc. Many other reasons that I don't have time to go into, but I'm sure you get the idea. If you are not very familiar with firewalls I wouldn't recommend it. I would probably tell that person to buy an automatic firewall and make sure that you tell it that D3 in all its multiple files/locations is a program that will make frequent changes.

Yes, I started there. It's useful in the listing of ports that a program *might* use, although there is some bad information there and it assumes that the user allows everything out (which from a security standpoint is less-than-ideal).

posted a message on D3 Windows 10 Firewall Rules?

Playing D3 on Windows 10 with built in firewall- outbound blocked unless allowed by a rule.

Allow port 1119, 3724 works, but I don't want to leave those ports open to all traffic and I can't quite nail the rules to get it to work (I must be missing a file location somewhere). Would be fine with or without the port 80 content displayed in battlenet app.

Anyone have a set of rules that works that you could export and copy and paste here? I understand they will change (file locations) the next time battlenet updates (why Blizz, why?!?). Thanks.

There was a blue post recently about it- cant find it but the gist was that you can farm the special event portrait frames on console, but you won't be able to change your portraits until a later console patch.

posted a message on Need help on s9 marauder build

Check your passives (TA on your hellfire is great for speed farming but not pushing and the link shows you never selected your 4th passive). I know bnet can be slow to reflect changes you make, but just check those.
Spend some mats making an ancient Manti. This should be a high priority for you.

Augment your ancients- if you are pushing 70 then run speed 60s and augment that gear (50+ gem rank minimum).

Always keep 5 sentries active. Watch your Focus/Restraint buffs and make sure you are keeping those up- just enough primary to keep the first buff up while you spam CA/MS for the second buff.
Follower: Go with stun/blind/immobilize type skills instead of (useless) healing ones. They will need a lightning wep (you can use a thunderfury-type wep or my preference is to use a weapon that does something else and just roll lightning damage on it). They need to be using wyrdward and oculus rings (oculus ring on your follower is also a high priority). I use overwhelming desire or haunt of vaxo ammy on my followers, some folks use others- you want an ammy that will do something (magical power-again stun/blind/knockback..) and that procs often.
Consider using a ranged follower instead of the templar. I know, I know... folks love the templar but just try one of the others since you are running a ranged build.
Try out everything and use what works for you.

If you need help rolling a specific item then check a few top M6 players on the leaderboards (ingame shift-L) and copy what they are doing. Good Luck.

posted a message on Current Era

We are about 5 months into the current era (eras generally last 6-12 months with the ideal time frame being about a year). "The most recent Era began on August 5". If I had to guess I would say the current era should end a few days into either Season 10 or 11.
For the newer player, when an era ends in D3 it means that the non-seasonal leaderboards are cleared (the old data is still available but doesn't factor into the rankings anymore).

posted a message on Migrating Build to new patch 2.4.3

How about making that copy build function a reality (if not any build then at least let us copy builds that we made)? Copy everything and whatever doesn't fit gets left blank- then some fields must be entered (e.g. the patch or whatev) before the new build can be saved. It's understood that gear items etc. could be lost in translation.
Let us import a whole set into a build (e.g. let's say user 'Tinkerbell' is making a whirlwind barb build and wants to import the whole wastes set at one time- and then he should be able to change out the sports bra and leg warmers to something else if needed).
...and a bunch of other ideas folks have expressed.

Let's break some crap. It'll get fixed and eventually get a lot better.

posted a message on Question on Multishot DH build

F/R is the way to go... you already know. COE is the way to go. Don't stack Vit on paragon points.
Max your damage and work on play skills. You are a ranged character so be aware that most of the time when your DH dies it is because you decided to get too close to something that has half the range that you do. It takes some experience to know when you absolutely have to stay out of range of something and when you should stutter step around a dense group of monsters, but your play skills will improve if you are thinking about those things while you play.

Edit: Hardcore. Okay you could probably stack some Vit in HC. haha.
Season 9 (the new patch in general) is going to make things better for you as you won't get mobbed by elites at the entrances, etc. Also if you can get a good amount of LOH on one item of gear (along with a decent base of Vitality- lets bump that up to 750k if you are pushing GRifts) that will help a lot. Think of it like this- you want to be able to sustain a few hits without dying, otherwise as long as you are spamming Multishot you will regenerate health very quickly. Now listen to what the HC folks tell you. Good luck.
