Depends on what they're planning to do with the two new zones. I mean, I don't think there is much to build off of unless they overhaul something (Paragon), but it might prove to be the hidden gem of experience in their patches.
RoS as good as it was, was more let's fix all the shit, than a proper expansion of them pushing the game forward. Or perhaps 50/50. As Mosquiera said before he left, "The game is in a good place," so why abandon it so soon? Anyway I voted yes. Occam's Razor. You see a lot of mental gymnastics to convince people (or themselves) that D4 or D2 HD is coming, D3 expansion is kind of... well, duh. I do respect their creativity however.
To drive the point home. They have the engine, the art, the systems in place, etc. etc. the established sales... why throw all that away? Makes no sense.
I honestly do not think there is much, if any, mental gymnastics for a Diablo 2 HD. That rumor has been around for some time, so it's only understandable that people assume, with that length, they've devoted something to that vein of development. Honestly, I think it is a good idea overall, basically release and wash your hand of it and just have a small squad keeping the servers in check, there is literally no genuine need to "new" content for a D2 re-release so a good chunk of those profits can be routed to different other projects, such as a Diablo 3 expansion or even future expansion of other games.
That being said, I don't think it's a release of a D2HD, and with how devoted Blizzard is with their releases I also rule out Diablo 4 anytime soon. D4 would essentially cannibalize its own franchise and fans split between the two games they would essentially maintain an upkeep of for a considerable amount of time. Cancelling D3 progress is risking much damage to the fanbase in its entirety, regardless what the vocal minority believes in. Diablo 3 expansion is an imminent thing, it's going to happen, the true concern is when?
