I was one of the unlucky fools who ordered through GAME and will never see my damned Collector's Edition now. :<Posted in: News

I am probably reading way, WAY too much into this, but the comment Jay made about Hell Mode could be a little...concerning. I know Blizzard was saying that they want a lot of viable builds and for skills to be used equally, but in saying that it depends on his current build whether he can get through Hell or not (or at least implies it)...well, it sorta confirms what I was thinking. I know, I know...again, I am probably reading into this way too much, but I can't help but think that this could lead to difficulty tuning adjustments in terms of nerfs, and other things. That, and there could be potential for some skills to just not be used at all and more 'cookie cutter' style popping up. Not that it wasn't going to, but...yeah...just rambling now.
Suffice to say, I am hoping that if Blizzard does get a lot of complaining (which they inevitably will), that they stick to their guns and don't nerf Hell/Inferno and instead balance and tune potential skills and abilities that might be too underperforming and allow for more build diversity. Especially since Bashiok and others in the PR department have been really pushing those 'billons of builds' lately, even if in the end there will definitely not be that many that make it through. Here's hoping there are
*End incoherent rambling*
Actually you didn't think into it enough! This in all likelihood means that there are many packs in hell that clash with your current build and you won't be able to kill them without swapping in a different rune/skill.
If this turns out true, I don't think it's anything too bad... or even new. Most untwinked barbs in D2 had to take a point in Berserk purely to get past physical immunes in hell. The only difference here is that you're not punished for it by having to make a permanent choice.
Personally, I quite like to respec on the fly to suit my environment. If I know there's a boss coming up, I can change my runes over from AoE to single target DPS, and then go back to my preferred style afterwards.
As long as these are isolated instances (and not a necessity to get through all of Inferno), I don't think it harms the game, or will kill the viability of other builds. - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

We are just going through Hell (not farming, like to take things rather easy and keep together in a group).
PM me your skype/Mumble name if you are interested in playing for a few hours

Blue gear can still be really helpful. Both of my rings are blues and together they give me about 1.5k extra life and 400 extra damage.
I assume you're using the templar as your follower (a finer meat-shield there never will be). If you train him in all the healing/regeneration related skills, he can do a pretty good job keeping you alive.
Really though, most of your damage is going to come down to your weapon. Int improves your damage by increasing the percentage it's multiplied by. If you're multiplying a small number, you're going to have to work much harder to get substantial increases.
When you first open up the auction house, it will send you a page of recommended items depending on which piece of your gear is the least appropriate for your level. I would wager that once you open the AH, it will show you a page of weapons.
Oh, and while you're fighting 1 on 1 with a big boss, you'll have a much easier time with Ray of Frost + Snow Blast as opposed to Disintegrate.
I love Disintegrate for groups. Love it. But when there's only one target, RoF is handy since it hits MUCH harder.

If you're at 43 currently, Force armour is a loooong way away. Almost none of the gear you're using now will still be with you at lvl 57, so I wouldn't worry about working towards FA. Find a setup that works for you now and stick with that. You're making things very tough for yourself by building your wizard around a skill you don't have yet.
What defensive skills are you using currently? Diamond Skin (With Crystal Shell) is an absolute bacon-saver in tough fights. If you can trigger it just before a fist slam or a meteor, you should be able to walk through it unscathed.
Don't be afraid to sacrifice a bit of dps for life, at least temporarily. I swapped over a few pieces of high-int gear for high-vit during this fight and the extra 1000hp made all the difference.
Int helps multiply your damage, but if you're multiplying a low base number, it's going to take a lot more work to get to the same amount.
Edit: Also, if you're finding your damage really lacking like you mention, that might be to do with a weak weapon. If you've got some spare gold, check the auction house for a weapon with 100+ damage.

Now don't get me wrong, I enjoy a bit of cheese dialogue as much as the next fantasy gamer, but it really felt like 90% of the bosses in this game just threw out the same "You will never defeat me. I am unstoppable" hoo hah.
I miss the plain old gonna-fuck-some-shit-up lines like "Not even death can save you from me!" or something genuinely taunting like Duriel's trololol of "Looking for Baal?"
I thought they did a good job renewing The Butcher. He felt every bit as psychotic as he should. Leoric, Maghda, Azmodan and Diablo really left me cold though.
There's only so many times you can be told "Oh, you destroyed this thing...but you STILL won't stop me!" before it just becomes one great bland mass of unmemorable threats. Kind of like a parent saying they're going to turn the car around if you don't stop hitting your sibling, but never actually doing it.
The other thing I noticed is that you could make a fine drinking game out of how much the word "Nephalem" seems to get spammed by every NPC. I know they're trying to establish a point and all, but c'mon.
Still loved the game, still enjoyed the story. I just thought the one-liners and evil threats could've used a bit more personality.
What did you think? Did you like the dialogue? What would you have changed, if anything?

Since I've been off work for D3, I spend an hour or two fixing up the house before settling into a session. When my partner comes home, we have a talk and a cuddle, and I make dinner while she sits nearby at the dining table and checks her forums. After that, we settle back into bed and I start my session back up.
Maintaining a happy relationship and hardcore gaming don't really mix, and I think if I were to abandon my whole day for Diablo, I would start to feel some real tensions developing. However, I still get about 5 to 10 hours a day of playtime (depending on how relentlessly I play in the day/ how late I stay up) and that feels like enough for me. I won't be rushing to Inferno any time soon, but that's not a priority for me.
So basically, I'd say it's going well... but it takes work.

Rah! We don't have significant others or people that love us! Why do you think we're all so angry!? xD
Really though, I don't think many of us complainers are actually frothing at the mouth and flipping tables. I'm pretty chill about the whole affair. It's just that where some people have gone "Oh well ", I've gone "Tsk...really? "
You're right, there's no need for aggression, and I think we can stay civil regardless of our thoughts on the matter.

^ This. A faulty product is a faulty product. Expecting to get what you paid for is not whining,

I think he was asking more in a colloquial sense of "bringing lots of computers to one house". It didn't really seem like trolling, just a simple (albeit not perfectly accurate) way of asking who's going to have friends over.
Anyway, personally I'd rather enjoy normal mode in single player first, so that I can derp around and read all the lore at my own pace. Once I'm more used to the game though, I'm definitely having a proper session with friends over.
