This is such a pointless thread. This is YOUR opinion on how to make Wizard builds. People can build however they feel like, and IMO having a FUN build is more important then having the absolutely most perfect build ever. Especially considering the whole "Every build is viable" stance Blizzard is aiming for.
Its not pointless, its informative to new people.
There is a huge difference between viable, fun, and effective.

Even using the above two rules there are still millions upon millions of options.

That is not 4 Offensive Spells.
    That is 2 signatures(Electrocute+Arcane Missile), 1 Utility(Archon), and 1 Offensive(Arcane Torrent).
    PS:
That build does not consume enough Arcane power.
So archon, that deals a ton of damage on activation (with my chosen rune), and turns you into a "monster" with powerful abilities, that will probably do quite some damage (and possibly cost AP) is not offensive? I think that easily falls into the offensive chategory.
I also dont care, if I dont consume much arcane power, maybe switch up prodigy with arcane dynamo and the problem is solved. What counts is that I can probably kill everything fast enough without being in danger (at least not because I dont use 3 utility/buff) ==> its effective IMHO

Archon has a very long cooldown, and also offers a good deal of defense.

Also, and most importantly, you will note that it is indeed listed under the UTILITY section.

If you want to argue that its misplaced, thats fine. Personally, I dont think Wave of Force is an Offensive skill for that matter. But even if you include Archon, thats still only 2 Offensive Spells in your build.

    posted a message on Electrocute!!!
    Electrocute DMG
    1 targets => 40% wpn dmg
    2 targets => 68% wpn dmg
    3 targets => 87.6% wpn dmg

This sounds like nothing, but Electrocute now casts TWICE as fast as other spells.

And if you are looking for a signature to generate AP, Golden Electrocute now stands alone.
    Golden Rank4 Electrocute, with 3 mobs up, generates 4*3*2 = 24 AP.
    Golden Rank4 Electrocute, with 1 mobs up, generates 4*2 = 8 AP.
Golden Rank4 Magic Missile generates 5*1 = 5 AP, regardless of # of mobs.
Golden Rank4 Shock Pulse on average generates 4*3/2*1 = 6 AP, regardless of # of mobs.
Golden Rank4 Spectral Blade generates 4 AP per mob hit, and possibly, not likely, your entire arcane bar.

Ohh and Electrocute still proc +AP on crit, which also happens twice as often as other signatures. Thus widening the gap on AP generation even further.

And on top of all that, Electrocute doesnt miss. So I just have to ask, how can of the other signatures compete with this?

You kidding me? I see lots of people make builds that break these two simple rules all the time. Melee wizards especially love to break rule #2, as they think spectral blade will single-handedly beat inferno!!!
And who knows it will not be effective? Also they do not break the rules since they have: Only one low cost spell, and at least one offensive spell.
3 Offensive Spells is pushing it...a 4th is outrageous, and a 5th is just insane.
Don't forget that you have to split your time not only with the offensive skills, but also with your Low AP cost spell. That's 5 spells to choose from at any one time, and only one utility skill. You would absolutely never use a 4th or 5th Offensive spell enough to merit their consumption of a spell slot. Also note that you will acquire more dmg/survivability by replacing that 5th and 4th offensive spell with a utility spell.
5 does sound a over the top, but I quickly made a build, that does seem like a reasonable one, and uses 4 offensice spells(2 low cost ones not to mention).
    http://eu.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/wizard#aeiSkm!cTd!ZcbYca
Magic missle for long-range single target damage, coned electrocute seems like a nice short range damage dealer, arcane mines as tactical weapon and Archon as the long CD, "when shit happens" button. And it still has 2 + 1 spells for survival and 2 passives to fuel the build with AP

That is not 4 Offensive Spells.
    That is 2 signatures(Electrocute+Arcane Missile), 1 Utility(Archon), and 1 Offensive(Arcane Torrent).

Sorry, mate. Your opinion isn't automatically facts :P
Neither are yours, yet you made the statement 1st, and I simply said the opposite.

A co-op game with single player would be like WoW. Its meant to be played in groups, but you can play by yourself to a limited extent.

A single player game with co-op would be like Diablo. It can be completed solely by yourself, but allows you to group up with other people.

I agree the current co-op achievements, just mirroring the sp ones, are a bit boring. But I don't mind co-op achievements in general.

Well it is a single player game with co-op, not a co-op game with some single player.

I think I have the best idea on this subject.

Dont bother trying to balancing it. Thats dumb.

    Quote from Jaelzadeon

Health potions in Diablo III stack to 100 and have a 30 second cooldown when use. Inventory really isn't an issue since they only take up one space.
I think he is talking about keeping multiple "ranks" of potions.

But as far as I know a mechanic like that is not even necessary. At least on Beta potions drop everywhere, and I may be wrong about this, but you can probably buy them.

Who would've thought I will need at least ONE (1) offensive spell? I go and correct my builds.....
The rest makes sense, but I'm sure there are builds where FOUR (4) damage dealer spell makes sense as well, due to rune effects.
You kidding me? I see lots of people make builds that break these two simple rules all the time. Melee wizards especially love to break rule #2, as they think spectral blade will single-handedly beat inferno!!!

However, I will say that I do not consider Wave of Force to be a true offensive spell.
It is obviously a utility spell, just like frost nova.

Worthless points....ohh I mean achievement points, are indeed worthless.

How can you seriously have a problem with co-op achievements?

Because you don't like playing with others, you don't want people who do to get achievements? :P

Well it is a single player game with co-op, not a co-op game with some single player.

I'm hoping they at least give a base stats increase on your minions like they did for skeles in D2, that way they aren't completely useless in higher difficulties

well if the WD has ANY hope of beating inferno solo his pets will definitely need to be able to tank so im assuming they will be able to take a real good amount of hits without dying. if his pets die within seconds while fighting inferno monsters the WD goes from the easiest to the hardest class, lolol

I havent looked into this but do the pets scale with the WDs armor and vitality?

posted a message on Character Sheet DPS
The displayed DPS does not seem to make sense to me.

I found that the equation to calculate the Displayed DPS is,
    Displayed DPS = WeaponDPS * Attack + WeaponDPS * Attack * CritChance * CritDmg)

    Example,
    16 Weapon DPS
    100 Atk
    10% CritChance
    50% CritDmg

    16.8*2 + 16.8*2.0*0.1*1.5 = 38.64 Displayed DPS

I confirmed this in the beta, and I just have to ask, How does this many any sense at all?
The only way this would be correct is if Critical hits did 2+Critdmg rather than just 1...and as far as I know, this does not happen in game.
