WD was actually the character that I played the second most. I found WD to be quite fun AND powerful, to be honest. It's all about the skill combinations. With "Grasp of the Dead" and Spiders OR Haunt, I could clear an entire group in just a few seconds (while they were snared too!). It's just not quite as *SMASH* *SMASH* *DESTROY* as all of the other classes. The spiders take a few seconds to target enemies until they actually do damage (I found this kind of annoying), but once they do... oh boy they go to town!

i think the WD will be one of the most powerful end-game. with a spider spam build it will be awesome. couple patches ago before wpn % dmg to spiders, they really sucked, doing 1-3 dmg (lolz) but now that there 38% wpn dmg base with possible increase when runed, + passives... :o

a build like this http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/witch-doctor#WkbhTc!eWZ!bYZYaa will be able to infinitely spam spiders, especially with inspire from the follower, spiders will do 78% wpn dmg per hit (x4 spiders) while returning tons of mana. if only they instantly attacked it would be even more nuts.

can you go into the game and tell me exactly how long the spiders last? because if they last at least 3-4 seconds then you can have like 16-20 spiders out at once, :o

They seem to last about 3 seconds after they are on the ground.
At 1.2 Atks per second I was able to launch off 5 jars and they started dying just as the 5th hit the ground. In other words, I can have about 16 spiders up if I spam them.

Yes, I realize that they are supposed to be more powerful than the generators, obviously. My point is that the generators really do not generate fast enough. Playing barbarian, I was smashing face and generating fury VERY fast. As a monk, it was taking ages to build up the spirit be able to use my powerful abilities again.

true, reading the skill calc the spirit generated by his generators should be at least doubled, considering he has 200 base spirit vs the 100 fury the barb has, the barb fury spenders use FARRRRR less fury then the monks spirit spenders. lamesauce. hopefully this is fixed

watched a few monk gameplays and it seems alot of people are using spirit spenders only in certain situations and remaining at high spirit most of the time. i dont like how it is, i want to constantly switch back n forth between spirit spenders and generators like fury gen/spend. hmmm... hope blizz is aware of this

Yup, this exactly. Barb there seems to be a nice medium between the two. Monk doesn't feel nearly as powerful or as smooth. I hadn't noticed it until I actually played and was not impressed.

i find it very odd that if this is the case, why did blizz nerf the monks spirit generators?

On the beta the monks ability to acquire spirit is in the toilet.
You can only do spirit generating attacks 90% of the time, in other words you push one button the whole time. Dashing strike is the only thing you can afford the other 10%. Lashing tail kick is awesome, but its so expensive its only worthwhile on bosses. And lethal decoy, lol.

Maybe it gets better at higher levels though.

This is a rather loose thread, but i was just wondering how far people have been able to max out their DPS in beta.
Currently i stand at 175 dps which gets me 490 criticals from arcane orb. I would love to try and push my dps past 200 but I can't get any chest or pant items that have +attack properties.

Anyway, hows everyone else doing with the wizard?

I am at 193.18 dps atm.

    I have two 3-8 rings, an 8-12 orb, and 24.6 dps 1h-mace.
My leggings have +5 all attributes, and I have not found a chest with anything good yet.

Just craft a buttload of these, http://us.battle.net/d3/en/artisan/blacksmith/recipe/apprentice-morning-star.
Ohh and dont forget to use magic weapon.

The best Crit I have gotten thus far was 681, but I have no +%crit dmg.

Its not anything like that, and I have no idea that the point of your comment was.

    Ahh yes it is...

I don't mind minor spoilers like art works etc, however I have refrained from looking at the boss fight images posted on the main page because I feel that will ruin alot of the first time gameplay for me.

But noone is forcing you to look at the datamined information.

Thats like telling an alcoholic he doesnt have to drink, and then suck down an entire case right in front of him.

TBH the more I play the beta the more I think this game isnt that great. It feels like I am just solo farming for materials in world of warcraft, which I hate doing. Often times I find myself wondering if I am just suffering from Diablo 2 nostalgia, and in reality this game isnt that good.

I realize there will be new content on release, but at some point it will be the same as the beta. Continually farming the same mobs over and over. Its just like farming raid materials in WoW, except I don't get to have the fun of the raid afterwards.

What's with all the monk hate? He looks awesome and will be my #1 choice.

    meh, idk about that...

He carries his weapons in his hands at times, then when you fight they are instantly on his side, and then back in his hands. Its definitely something that needs to be fixed.

However, he is fun to play.

Achievement generally present optional challenges. If you are not up for these challenges, that's fine.

Calling people that want to do them "trained dogs", though - that says a lot more about you than it does about them.

Just because there is something you can't or wont do, it doesn't make the people who can and want inferior to you. That's a very bad view on life and people.

Most arent even optional challenges, they are freebies that you get for doing nothing.

Its a perfect example of the worship of mediocrity in the US.

posted a message on Crafting Info
I saved a ton of materials on beta and today I decided to try to create one amazing weapon. So I used most of my stocked materials to craft some journeyman heavy axe(1h-axe with 17.5 dps + 1 Random attribute). The thing I noticed was that the axes kept getting the same affixes no matter how many I created. After creating about 50(I like to make sure its not bad luck, I realized that Crafted Items have limited affixes and I would never get the attributes I want.

After that massive failure I started making Apprentice Morning Stars, and quickly got numerous +elemental dmg weapons that far exceeded the DPS of the axe.
    http://us.battle.net/d3/en/artisan/blacksmith/recipe/apprentice-morning-star

The moral of the story is that we will be forced to look up what affixes an item is allowed before we actually craft anything.

Energy twister was stealth buffed to 46% Wpn Dmg in patch 6.
On beta its decent now, still nothing amazing.

The only real advantage is that it will do dmg as you move, just not reliably.

So, what are you trying to bring up with that, it's confusing?

Anyways, only one is his actual follower and other is the quest NPC and after he kills Jondar the second one will disappear. Nothing surprising, since he just replayed the quests from the start (or at least from Reign of the Black King) with his Templar beside him.

    This.

Happens to me every time i play trough beta.

    Yup,
You are just helping another templar escape.

Your Templar even says something like, "Evil cowers in fear at the sight of one templar, 2 will have them on their knees".

    posted a message on Electrocute!!!
    Quote from setzer9999

In a spreadsheet environment, a "rotation" like casting Meteor, Meteor, AP Regen Electrocute x 5, Meteor, Meteor would be a ton of dps, but I HIGHLY doubt that will work in Diablo 3 as a viable strategy. It might work OK in Normal and Nightmare, maybe MAYBE even Hell... but if we can take the devs at their word at all, Diablo 3 will be much more about mechanics and challenging gameplay in Inferno rather than late Hell Diablo 2 in which the only difficulty was basically in that there were plenty of mobs out there that could kill you in 1 or 2 hits and the immunes.

Diablo 3 looks to be a deeper game with more varied AI and attack types, with less focus on being squished instantly and more focus on survivability residing in strategic play and awareness. We will be forced to play strategically over time to preserve our health and use our defenses and utilities wisely in addition to just DPSing. At the same time though, monsters won't have millions of HP like an MMO. So, its kind of a hybrid of having more mechanics like an MMO, but still being shorter and more brutal fights without time to go into a rotation trance like an MMO.

If all of this is true, you can't just stand around casting a rotation of spells that will let you infinitely spam Meteors and Hydras. You are going to have to cast 1 or 2 meteors, then run away from a mob's mortar fire and arcane orbs, or flee from the pack of mobs that just climbed up the cliff behind you. You'll need to Teleport, Slow Time, or utilize another AP free cooldown spell like Frost Nova. 12.5 AP per second IS a TON... by the time you have cast your first Meteor and then dealt with the mechanics, you will have the AP for another one. It only takes 5 seconds to recharge your bulb 62 AP.

Even still, if I'm wrong about all of this, then Electrocute AP regen is still only good for some builds, a build that spams Meteors and then spams Electrocute. Other spells that don't cost as much AP can be used in other builds that can do less damage per hit than a meteor, but used properly can compete in dps and have good survivability with better AP management. Electrocute isn't OP across the board, its just better for some things, not all.

Apparently you have not even played on the beta...because none of your preconceived notions are true.

And to top it off, its completely pointless and meaningless.
It does nothing to refute the fact that Electrocute has the best AoE dmg, Equal or better Single target dmg. Ohh and on top of that it has by far the best Arcane power generating capability(You know the only reason to even use a signature).

12 AP/sec is not very much....

Especially when you are casting 2 times per second. At 2 APS it only effectively lowers the costs of your spell by 6 AP!! And when you are casting stuff like Hydra or Meteor well thats like nothing.
