????
How does people wanting Blizzard to use full CGI cinematics as opposed to sketch book style (which has been done in countless games) have ANYTHING to do with wanting to play Diablo 2 again? -

Then you have not been paying attention to news, they already said they would be useing some of that art style throughout the full game, so you might want to get use to it.Quote from LordRayken

The only people who find this introduction impressive simply haven't been playing Diablo for 17 years.
You have to keep in mind, thats not what opening cinematics are anymore. Its been 10 years. They are now or catching your eye, for maken you go... -wow-.
They now have technology to tell you the story IN GAME, WHILE you play, they dont need to do it here anymore, so they can make it for pure eyecandy... thats what people dont get. Its better to tell story in-game.
You couldnt make good looking ingame areas for storytelling like you can now.
That "technology" as you say isn't a wow factor anymore. No ones wowed by special effects. Entire movies are produced without actors now and on low budgets. You have to have a compelling story and a point of reference to become engaged in what's being shown to you.
Not to mention that has NOTHING to do with the first 30 or whatever seconds of that insane weird ass artstyle that looks NOTHING like Diablo and it doesn't remind me of ANY of the past Diablo games at all. I have no idea what I was watching and if it hadn't been for the hooded angels I would've been very confused. I have no idea where that art style came from as a past Diablo player. Ultimately, the intro feels nothing like Diablo.
Thats too bad, i was looking forward to the Full CGI part of Full CGI Cinematic. Blizzard does them better than anyone. Not a big fan of the sketches in cains book comes to life in what looks like cardboard cut outs fighting in 3D.
Precisely one point. It has nothing to do with Blizzard's cinematic style or any of the past Diablo styles.
As for the "book of cain" crap, that's outside knowledge. A new player being "introduced" has no idea what the book of cain is, so how is that a point of reference for these people. -

Man, people really like to find things to complain about.
I'd like to see what they would say if Blizzard showed anything like any of the other game trailers they saw tonight. Diablo 3 was BY FAR the most impressive, not even remotely close.
I also don't get why 'the weird ass art style wasn't in Diablo and Diablo 2!!!1!!!' is at all relevant. Note to people who play video games: not every game is going to be the exact same.
Because they are not Blizzard North.
They took the game from past developers.
If they are going to do that, CHANGING AROUND TONS OF fundamental styles is NOT the way to go. You want Diablo 3, or NEW GAME 1?
Diablo 3 IS a new game, I dont want diablo 2, I beat diablo 2 10 years ago.
I would highly suggest you don't play Diablo 3 then. Because we've been told it's insanely similar and faithful to Diablo 2.
With that being said, this Cinematic ISN'T. -

It's obviously done in the same fashion as the art in the Book of Cain, which is the book you see cain reading and scribbling through. The intro is his "prophecy" that he's deciphering. You see what I'm saying?
1. Did the intro tell you what the book of cain was, or is that outside knowledge?
2. Does the intro tell you anything about a prophecy?
3. As someone who's never played Diablo before (this is an INTRODUCTION), who is Cain?
4. What does his prophecy have to do with Diablo 3, considering for the past two games we've already been fighting and killing the Lord of Terror himself?
5. Saying "you see what I'm saying" while using extraneous amounts of outside information to prove a point about an "introduction" video makes you come off as fanboyish and overly defensive of something that's good to you only because you are already introduced to the game and are not looking at this intro as stand alone. -

In addition to that it shows some general demon vs angels fighting to set the theme of the game. It's a war between heaven and hell and Sanctuary is stuck in between. What is this if not an introduction?Quote from LordRayken
The only people who find this introduction impressive simply haven't been playing Diablo for 17 years. Either that or they never paid attention to Diablo 2's cinematic masterpieces.
Why did we need to be shown that? More importantly, would anyone have any idea what the hell was going on if not for their prior knowledge that Diablo is about Angels and Demons in the first place? Do you see what I'm saying? It was worthless footage and the art style was NOT anything relevant to anything I've seen in past Diablo games. -

Exactly what I was saying. The Intro to Diablo 2 was really good and really helped set up the story. This intro for the 3rd instalment falls flat in comparison.
The intro for Diablo 3 doesn't set us up as players in any way. We don't gain knowledge via watching the intro nor do we feel like we are learning anything. It doesn't tell us anything about the story nor does it give us a point of reference. I have no idea who Leah is and she shows me nothing about herself. I can only assume shes important because shes in the cinematic, not because of what it tells me.
Cain is there for a split second and then the church falls to pieces and it ends.
The first 30 seconds or whatever of Angels fighting Demons in some weirdly drawn artstyle tells me nothing either. It's a Diablo game. I already am fully aware of Angels and Demons fighting one another. I am the PLAYER. What am I, the player, going to be doing in this game? Fighting the Demons? Fighting the Angels? Fighting both? Who is my enemy? What is my goal? What am I being INTRODUCED to? You have not told me ANYTHING. Just made me more clueless. Not in a good "I want to know more" way either.
Diablo 1 and Diablo 2 had clear cut intro cinematics that were both highly engaging and very "introductory."
What I saw in this cinematic that was just released was nothing short of mockery of the past games introductions and it might as well have been a random cut scene from game that has nothing to do with Diablo.
Very poor job Blizzard. I'm beginning to wonder how Diablo 3 will turn out without Blizzard North as you've so clearly indicated the stark differences already.

"Why did I follow him? I don't know. Why do things happen as they do in dreams? All I know is that when he beckoned, I had to follow him. From that moment we traveled together, east. Always into the east."
Compared with:
"UNCLE!!!!!!"
This may be harsh, but as a loyal Diablo fan I can say that this new cinematic turned out to be a giant turd.
