It is from the same cinematic. I doubt they changed the look of Solarion in a single cinematic.
See, what I'm seeing, is the slit you're pointing out where Imperius is on the ground is the same big slit in the spear Tyrael has. The rest of Impierus's spear is off the screen (the part where the two ends join closer together, you can see they start to join after the big slit) Just look at the images closer. That's what i'm seeing.
Edit: the part i'm talking about could be mistaken as sparks, or the sparks are covering it up, or i'm mistaking the sparks for more of the spear. Lot's of different ways to be confused here

No it isn't.
In the first part I believe it is Imperius holding Solarion, but in the second part look closer at the edge of the spear. The edge is one whole blade with a hole in the centre, while Solarion is composed of a blade which branch out into two separate blades that do not come together at the end!
If you don't believe me, look at Book of Cain, page 42. There is a picture of Solarion.

Second point i want to make, you can further this GIF by incorporating the next part to this GIF. There Is a video of Imperius standing up after he's on the floor and it's in the original retrospective. That is the continuation of that imperius part, cause if you notice it's int he exact same room. I believe that may be the angiris council room.
I can understand what you're saying, but I still think I see a slit between the two endpoints whilst Tyrael is holding it. It's a really small slit, because it's hard to even tell it's there while Imperius is sliding on the ground.

I personally think Imperius is fighting Diablo in that video, and Diablo kills Imperius which is why Tyrael is wielding Solarion, especialy since it shows Diablo pull a Zealot with a blade coming out of his arm and thrusts it towards someone.
THAT WOULD BE AWESOME. I personally like that theory.

Anything involving one of the Evils killing one of the members of the Angiris Council, or vice versa would be an amazing plot point

Using the recent DIII TV spot, i just made a quick gif of Tyrael owning Imperius. Even though it doesn't make sense since Solarion is in both parts, it still looks awesome! Let me know what you think

Really enjoyed this quote. You can apply it other things besides Diablo.
Just curious if you guys have some awesome quotes you found from the Diablo universe. Sure everyone loves "Fresh meat", and "Not even death, can save you from me". But what about some other ones. Maybe from some lore materials in-game, the novels, or maybe from the Book of Cain itself like mine. Let me hear 'em!
Yeah, a lot of people are upset about the Monk's attack animations. You can probably find a couple of threads about it. Like you said, the Monk is a Martial Arts expert, so that's the defense to why he doesn't use his weapons, but I agree that it would be nice to actually see his polearm do some ass kicking.
I'm srsly thinking doing what Eric Cartman did in South Park when he was waiting for some computer to be released. I'ts agonizing and pure pain to wait for this game and It is very tempting to take a walk into the mountains and bury myself in snow so I will be frozen for one month!. And when I've been revived I can finally play the game! oooohh YEAHHH

Almost perfect timing for me. My last day of school is on May 11th and I'm quitting my job on the 10th in preparation for a move. The only pesky thing is that I'm walking to get my diploma on the 19th, and I can't skip because I've already purchased the robe. (Just kidding, walking is going to be awesome)
