Since a lot of things being patched have very small fixes, it seems that they're starting to hone in on what they need to to be satisfied enough to release it. I take this as a good sign.
The no cost primary attacks on the wizard sounds great, but I'm guessing they won't be powerful enough to actually get far exclusively with them.

Dec 12, 2011MAldenB posted a message on Diablo 3 Opening CinematicIt's very odd that the meteor would come in from an angle like that and then dig directly downwards into the ground. I guess it could happen, but I'm not sure that I believe it wasn't intentionally weird.Posted in: News
Here comes the speculation:
If it was Tyrael coming from the sky (which it very well come have been), why would he hit the cathedral?
What if Tyrael planned hitting into the cathedral so that when he made a giant hole in the ground, it would be hidden? I don't know about that, but there's a small chance that is the case.
Going further, what if Tyrael was looking for something?
Okay, okay; I'll up the speculation level: What if Tyrael was looking for the black soulstone and it was hidden below the cathedral? Now that could make some great sense.
If the cathedral was hiding something of importance, or, straight-up, the black soulstone, I don't believe Tyrael would descend from the heavens all slowly and gently, walk into the cathedral, and stroll his way down deeper into it. I would imagine that Tyrael would want to haul *** down to Sanctuary and secure the black soulstone (or whatever is important) that is hidden beneath before anyone else catches on, especially if the item is that important.
And this would also explain the odd trajectory of Tyrael (most likely him). Tyrael probably didn't have time to travel to directly above the cathedral and then downwards into the ground to where he needed to go. I bet that his descension was spontaneous and rushed, so when he shot down to Sanctuary, he shot down at an angle and then directly down into the ground when he hit, thus explaining the odd change in trajectory.
All of this speculation that I've come up with seems to make perfect sense in my head, but once again, it's all purely speculation. I've read all the lore located on the Wiki site (which is fantastic, by the way) and I'm merely filling in the blanks. I wouldn't be too surprised if something along the lines of my speculation is true, but then again I wouldn't be surprised if I was full of **** and way off. Either way, I like my speculation so far.
What do you guys think? Am I reaching too far? -

It may not mean anything at all, but I noticed because I was paying attention to it. The first time watching it, I thought he left it behind to be destroyed. - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

I like that last one, but nope.
The name has two syllables, but I won't say how many words.
Let's make it interesting: First person to guess the name it wins an absolutely free illustration of his or her choosing.
For now, here's a bird:

Starts and ends with "D."
Here's another revenant card graphic. I may lighten it, but it, being hard to see, looks excellent within its card frame.

I can spill a little bit of information. Here is our current "gist summary" in our game design document:
"A board game influenced by games such as RISK, Magic: The Gathering, and Diablo. In this game, players will summon armies of Minions and Demons, use spells and special powers via drawn cards, and strategically manage hit points and mana resources. Players select one of three distinct classes at the beginning of each game, each specializing in different playstyles and receiving different card deck combinations to wreak havoc on others. Players will struggle to maintain control over the board in different ways, striving to destroy enemy players, their summons, and their means for resurrecting, leaving only one evil ruler to take over the world."
This summary is very conservative, but I hope it will tie you over for now. The game has many rich, unique details and mechanics that make the game complicated, yet is simple enough that nearly anyone with experience playing basic board games will find the game easy to play. One team member likes to point out, "Not complicated, but complex."
I find a lot of value in thinking far into the future, while one of us likes to bring the others (cough ME cough) back to the present when discussing possibilities. We're going to focus on the close future, but this game is a good one that seems like it could easily turn into a great online game. Only time will tell.
During our last meeting, my team and I ironed out some leftover details, as well as some technical, most important ones, and we have chosen an official name for the board game (instead of calling it "UNTITLED BOARD GAME"). We are not dead set, though, so I cannot say yet.
And now for something entirely different: Waffles!

I will try to start doing more traditional illustrations. I've just been putting a lot of time into making cards recently and have been scolded by my girlfriend for it!

Aww yeah.
You got it. If I don't reveal another card tomorrow, I'll draw up a wallpaper for you (and anyone else who wants it). Otherwise, soon!
Truth is, I never played MTG. I stopped doing the trading card thing after the original 151 Pokemon cards. However, I somehow got my hands on a bunch of cards over the years and used to look at the art for inspiration.
I bought my first MTG card pack the other day. It was pretty exciting, and I got several intriguing cards, although the rest weren't as appealing to me. A handful of friends plan on coming over soon to teach me and have a night of playing MTG. Should be fun!
I can't give out any real details yet, but we do have the majority of it established. We are now working on the small details that won't impact the mechanics of the game, such as which colored dice to use and what glass pebbles to choose.
We are not messing around; this game is going to be incredible.
Since I have about a hundred card graphics to make, I have convinced several artist friends to help me produce some sick, unique, morbid graphics. For every one card you see here, there is at least another one already finished. Once my friends start churning out their graphics, that number will jump.
Tonight's is one I made this morning, in which the graphic took me around 2 1/2 hours to create due to tedious tweaking and redoing. This one is a utility card that allows Bloodmage class players to regain 5 Blood Orbs, a major boon to have when low on life because of being attacked or playing too many Blood Magic cards.

Good question, and thanks!
I have an art blog I keep updated (http://maldenb.wordpress.com/), but that is mostly for my Project 365.
We will be establishing a name for our board game soon, as well as selecting a team name to officially go by. I have plans for creating a team website soon after so that fans may follow our progress. I will be sure to bring this up at our next meeting!
I decided that I didn't like the first one, so I redid the Bleed Demons card's graphic. The idea of the previous one may be used in another card in the future.

It's still very early in the game's development, and I've only started producing concepts and prototypes to compare to one another, so it's really hard to say at this point.
That said, I can say that the card layout I shared was the best of three concepts I created yesterday. If we keep the layout, the details may change, such as the border graphics, fonts, and potentially a few other things, but overall I really prefer the large portrait, simple description, and sub-description elements to these cards. We of course want to make our cards similarly appealing and efficient to popular trading card game cards, but drastically tailored to meet our needs with our game's completely different (and unique, as far as I'm aware) mechanics.
Today, I printed, laminated, and finished several card prototypes using the card concepts from the past few days. I gained several new fans with them, all of whom were current/former advanced Magic:TG players.
One step at a time.
While I really wanted to work on some card graphics tonight and share one, I couldn't find the time or energy due to day-time work. So here are some shoes instead:

Part of my game design team, including myself, is working on a board game that will clash ideas similar to those in RISK and Magic: The Gathering. After doing most of the conceptualization, we are now in the alpha/prototyping phase of the board game's development. And since I'm the creative director, I've started producing cards concepts/prototypes!
I'm pretty excited--I believe we are really onto something great with this project. More info and teasers to come!
