    Quote from Laedo611

I guess I just find it sad that, considering all the time and energy directed toward creating, following, and rewriting the lore for this game, they would release a gimmick in the CE which will appear in-game that totally undermines their own efforts (definition of sell out).
To some extent I can agree with you, and the one case where that would be is if you're playing co-op and someone else is wearing them, thus breaking your own immersion. But I'm going to be completely selfish here for a second and say: GIMME DEM WINGZ!!!!

    Quote from Ferret

Nowhere in the lore does it say this kind of rising of a Nephalem can't happen.
Nice argument from ignorance there Ferret ;)

    Quote from Umpa

It's a video game. It's their universe. If they want to give characters wings in the CE, then they can give them wings.
We of course still retain the option of disagreeing with said choice.

    Quote from Umpa

You gave no real evidence as to why it undermines their "efforts". Considering that humans of this universe are born from creatures who both have wings it makes sense to me.
Oh I don't know, the "I don't remember any human having wings of light and sound." seems to fit the bill? Expecially since it's true :P

Of course that doesn't prove that human cannot have wings, since you cannot prove a negative, but since no human has never shown them it does set the tone for the series. And since this is not a debate about the logical possibility of wings, but the perceived feeling of actually seeing humans with wings in the game, the important factor here is whether or not it "feels right". Based on that, I can agree with the Laedo that it does seem out of context.

posted a message on Differences between the Black Abyss and the Void
Well you're right in that we don't know a whole lot about them. There's more to it than that though.

The Void, like you said, is some sort of vacuum, but clearly not just very far away since there are no stars visible, ahough extrapolating conclusions about a fantasy world using astrophysics might be a bit foolish.

In any case, Mendeln is still very much alive when he's sent there, as is Rathma and Lilith as well. But the Abyss is only ever mentioned as a place where demons go after dying. That's the chief difference between the two as far as we can tell at this point.

As for what the Abyss is, we really don't know. The only thing we know is that Diablo and Mephisto are probably there, and if D2 lore is still accurate Izual's demonic body migth have come from there. Though since demons now have a clear creator in the husk of Tathamet, that's uncertain.

Looks good (though the yellow text is a bit of an eyesore), is the site fully theme supportive now?
e.g. if i wanted to use the white monobook style - would the site still look ok, or did people stick in fixed color fonts and background colors?
As far as I know, choosing any skins other than the custom Vector skin we use is disabled. But even if it were enabled colors have been specified across skins so it would look quite ugly I'm afraid :(

    Quote from Ebonmourn

I have my demo of the formula list up on my user page on the wiki... and wouldn't mind you (Phrozen) or someone else taking a look at it as I am sure I forgot something due to my inexperience with the item list template and using it with recipes.. you can leave a reply on my talk page or under this forum post.
You've used it correctly, I see no errors.

    Quote from Ebonmourn

Just realized something... Blizzards Diablo page has like 241 formulas... (40 1h weapon enchants the demo list has 16 of them...) and at the moment my list does not have all of them on it.. Should I start adding all of them to the list even if there isn't a data space for that formula?
You mean adding them to the page so there are tons of ugly red links everywhere? I'll say yes, but without it there's no way to tell what is actually missing from the wiki without scanning through all recipes, and that's not very helpful for anyone. You are of course free to add any of those recipes to the Data namespace directly, and it's quite a simple procedure. Just look at an already existing data page, copy the layout and replace the differing variables (which is mostly just the name and description it would seem).

Once we do we'll remove all the links to the regular monsters and act 1 regions currently listed. But since we have nothing else at the moment we're kind of just filling the space there for the time being.

posted a message on Broken links in D2 Item Displays
    Quote from Ebonmourn
st bringing this up because I'm wondering if this is a concern and
My personal guess is that it would have to be something to do with the item display template or something to do with redirecting links not existing. With the likely cause of the links not working being the shift of all D2 namespaces having (Diablo II) appended to the end of them.
    Bingo!

Before we moved the D2 items to use the new item template, many of them linked to their unique/set/normal versions with links like [[Humongous]] rather than [[Humongous (Diablo II]] (you can see that humongous redirects you to the D2 unique axes page). Withthe move, to conform to the later added wiki standards of separating all older game titles with a game suffix, this created some red linkds. So this is just a matter of the redirects not existing. Easy but tiresome process to fix :)

    Quote from Ebonmourn

Does it matter if the Recipe lists are added onto their own template like page and then pulled from the template onto the respective craftsman's page?

    ...

Only thing is I'm trying to think of a reason that it be good to have a list of all the recipes stored on their own page be it that of a Template or a normal page.
From a visual standpoint no, but it's easier for editors to see what is actually on a page if it isn't "templatized" so to speak. I suspect you ask because of the way Affix Lists are handled for the D2 part of the wiki. These two instances are quite similar to each other, and I don't think there'd be much difference which solution was used for D2.

However, I expect the D3 data will change considerably as the game is patched and played, probably several times, and the editing upkeep of these pages will be larger. That means priority should be given to making editing easy, and so I think adding the recipe lists directly to the page would be preferable.

It's also interesting that Mephisto is firmly established as the leader of Hell, his realm more or less its capital.
There's definitely more to it than that. Mephisto isn't outright called the leader, and while his realm does seem the capital, I wouldn't say that's nearly as important an indicator of strength as it would perhaps be in a human nation. After all, Mephisto's and Azmodan's realms are the only ones that could really contend for the position, the other realms are just more primal in their nature.

posted a message on Adding Recipe lists to Craftsmen pages
Sorry for the delayed response, I was away last week.

    Quote from Ebonmourn

    Elaborating on the categorization...

For example on the Mystic's page the formulas are just being pulled in up in a list that displays a name and a description of the formula..
    • On the above topic; does the current list need to be edited to use the item list template as currently it uses a custom made list "dftable" layout.
Yes. Those lists contain data and format that has been manually added to that page, rather than pulling the available data from the Data: namespace.

    Quote from Ebonmourn

The list is further broken up in to sections like 1hand, 2hand, and etc.

The question I was posing was either
    • How in depth does it need to be for the blacksmith plans or the jewelers gem recipes
    • If depth is not that much of an issue then in what manner of catagorizing the groups should be utilized.
      • example being recipe 1 requires the blacksmith lvl to be 4 and recipe 2 requires a blacksmith lvl of 1.... these two recipes would be categorized into two separate sub-categories with a title above each.
Oh now I see what you're talking about. I was confused when you used the word categorization: in the wiki that word is used to refer to the method by which pages are automatically grouped and sorted (see DiabloWiki.com - Help:Categorization Help:Categorization).

As for how to handle that specifically, I don't know. You could experiment and see what makes sense, and then we can iterate from there if needed. Try and see :)

ApocBot should also have updated the Mystic Recipes by now so it should be possible to incorporate them into the List Template.

posted a message on Web Content Manager, RMAH and Regions, and Peripherals
    Quote from WishedHeHadBeta

are you serious? the shared stash is shared between all characters on one account regardless of what server your playing on or what your home region is. the home region lock means that you can only sell items on the RMAH in THAT region regardless of where your characters get these items (us east, EU, us west). so you can get items from all three of these servers but only be able to put them on the home region where its locked... its VERY simple... <_<
If this were true, you could still trade with other regions through the GAH. Since your characters outside of your home region can use the GAH, the Shared Stash must be region specific or trading can indeed take place between regions.

I wish they would just answer the question half the players actually want to know the answer to: If you live in EU/Americas, can farming teams in Asia sell things on the auction houses you use?

It seems like they are trying to prevent that from happening, but they aren't sharing all of the information with us.
Perhaps that's because they don't yet know how effectively they will be able to prevent it. A lot of this is going to boil down to how expensive it will be to circumvent these checks, and how effectively Blizzard can police them. Which will be hard to know prior to release.

There's no blue saying that outright as far as I know, but since Bashiok said you cannot trade between regions, this must obviously be the case.

RMAH(EU)--> WD(EU) --> Wizard (EU but playable on USEast) --> USEast GAH --> DH (USEast) --> RMAH (USEast)
The problem lies in the WD(EU) --> Wizard (EU but playable on USEast) part. Those two characters cannot trade with each other and do not share stash. Since we haven't really gotten any details on how home regions are locked either I suppose it migth furthermore be hard for you to register that second copy in the US.

    Quote from maka

The real question then becomes: what RMAH do I use with my USEast characters? The US RMAH? But Bashiok said "You can only use the currency-based auction house of your home region" - my home region is EU. So I'd be using the EU RMAH with my USEast characters? What's to stop me from giving/selling these items in the US realm? ...I don't get it.
What Vagelis and Diablofan said is what'll happen: you simply won't be able to accessa a RMAH with characters created out of your home region.
