No release date today. There goes one theory!

Today is not over. I don't give up hope that easily.

They still have to put out the official announcement of the b.net balance release today.

Many people see this as a good sign.

Blizzard did say that they are planning to give more keys out so I assume it is not ending any time soon™

    soon™ = few weeks.

I know my post didn't sound like it, but I'm happy about this mass invite...at first! Now that battle.net is down after 6/7 hours. Dunno if stress testing works like this. The final stress test has finally began, but I fear that Blizz was not prepared for this much stress...

Are people still able to play even though battle.net is down or not?

You should've added to the poll whether the release date will get announced before the 9th...

Actually the point of the stress test is to find out what is the MAX you can handle and not if you can handle X.

The fact that the servers crashed is a good sign because they now have a number at which the servers give out versus just knowing that the current server configuration can handle some arbitrary number of users.

Keep in mind that the speed test show you a result in Megabits and not Megabytes. 1byte = 8bits

still not accurate for being in the US. ive been to 7 major cities, gotten THE best internet connections and never DL anything from anywhere above 3 mb/sec, and ive downloaded from hundreds of sites. what state do you live in? some magical state that has better internet then the rest of it? lol. or do you have some business internet? because im talking residential, and residential services arent that high.

You are absolutely correct. Majority (90%) of people will never download over 5MB/s. Screenshots i posted are from my work and were meant to illustrate that it is in fact possible to download over 5MB/s. AFAIK you can get similar performance from Comcast with their 100Mb offer of FIOS 150Mb both @ $200 a month

rofl no. thats not accurate in the slightest. speed tests are so wrong all the time. try downloading something, anything movie/music and take a screen shot of you going above 5 mb. pls

    lmfao....

speedtest.net is SO fail. it says i get almost 2 mb/sec on my IPHONE internet? yea i cant download anything above 400kb/sec through my iphone. dont believe ANY speed tests, they are all false.

Keep in mind that the speed test show you a result in Megabits and not Megabytes. 1byte = 8bits

the downloader is going really slowly...must be a lot of new people downloading it lol
(slow to me is ~300kb/sec, i have a 20mb connection).

20mb? your not in the US then. because the absolute highest in the US is 5 mbs, look it up. they advertise as "higher" but its literally a strait lie because you cant download above 5. i have a "8 mb" for the past 5 years and ive never downloaded anything above 3mb/sec. it always gets to about 3 and caps out. (and i download ALOT of illegal shit... cough* :ninja: )

    Simply not true.

Your video card will utilize more memory displaying a 3D object with 10MB texture wrapped around it on 800x600 canvas then 10KB texture on 1920x1080 canvas.

    lol

Let me take a moment to educate you a little bit how video cards render graphics. But before I do so let me clear out the most common misconception. Contrary to many articles on the internet, the resolution of the canvas that can be rendered at satisfactory framerate is not directly dependent on the amount of memory your video card has to utilize.

In fact i can't think of anything that is directly dependent on the VRAM. More memory will not increase your performance. It will however hinder it if there is not enough.

For example the video card has 512MB of VRAM but the rendered canvas along with all the resources used for rendering requires 700MB. In this event your RAM will be utilize to store the resources that did not fit in the VRAM and there will be a lot of unnecessary resource swapping between RAM and VRAM negatively impacting performance. On the other hand there would be no performance difference between 1GB or 2GB VRAM pools.

Today's graphics cards have no problem rendering resolutions way beyond what today's displays can accommodate. I base this on my personal experience with my GTX 460 and a 4K projector.

The problem always comes down to the size of the resources needed to render the canvas at any given time. Resources being the wireframes (which by the way take no space at all compare to textures) and textures that are wrapped around said frames.

Textures can have different resolutions, color depths, and compression levels. Just like any image you might have saved on your computer. If all the textures needed to render the canvas take more space that your video card can allocate your performance will suffer.

getting more then 1GB is only useful with massive resolutions or multiple screens. thats it. so for anyone using your resolution and less with get zero benefit of a 2gb card. its just like how people stack 8 GB of RAM because they think it will help when there computer will never use more then 4GB
So, like I said originially, it depends on your settings. Anyone running lower than 1680x1050 won't benefit from 2GB of VRAM. However, anyone running 1680x1050 can easily use over 1GB with high textures and AA...thus benefiting from a 2GB card.

Per my earlier example, I'm already using over 1GB in Skyrim and thats with the stock (crappy) textures the game shipped with.

no. its dependent on multi-screen and resolution. not textures or AA.

Wrong. AA does not matter, I agree, but the textures do. It all comes down to the size (as in amount of bytes, not dimensions) of the textures.

Your video card will utilize more memory displaying a 3D object with 10MB texture wrapped around it on 800x600 canvas then 10KB texture on 1920x1080 canvas.

posted a message on More Patch 10 details
A few more changes have made their way in to Diablo III beta patch 10, including the removal of Scrolls of Companion and Scrolls of Reforging, and we’ll be updating the patch notes to reflect that.

In both cases these are features we felt were underdeveloped and just not quite good enough for the game in their current state. The companion pets felt like they were mandatory to maximize play efficiency and some of the pets were too cutesy for the gritty, dark world of Sanctuary. Neither of those are issues we felt like we could solve without a lot of additional work, and we’re trying to close in on a solid release date for the game, not move further away. When weighing these systems against releasing the game, we decided to cut these scrolls and stay on track for the game’s release.

We think we can make companion pets into a much cooler system (both mechanically and visually), and evolve the reforging scrolls into a more meaningful system at some point in the future. For the time being, they will not be in the initial release of the game.

dont get any 2gb cards. its a waste of money. your computer doesnt utilize all of it so your paying extra for no reason. just FYI
This is not entirely true. It all depends on your resolution, how much AA you use, and the quality of textures you use. At 1680x1050 I'm already over 1GB VRAM in Skyrim.

getting more then 1GB is only useful with massive resolutions or multiple screens. thats it. so for anyone using your resolution and less with get zero benefit of a 2gb card. its just like how people stack 8 GB of RAM because they think it will help when there computer will never use more then 4GB

It will when you have a 64bit OS. Have you ever tried editing 1080p video? Trust me 8GB is not enough.
