posted a message on Buying the Diablo Books
The connection is only that they were the first 3 diablo books so therefore they were the "Diablo Series." In terms of the actual stories they are not a series, but just all about Sanctuary.

*EDIT* I do highly recommend the Sin War books. The explain a lot of background that most people don't realize.

    lol i don't hate you:)

Even more people buy the Sims, than WoW. Maybe Diablo should look like the Sims

    Statistics prove me correct :)

You have brilliantly missed the point. congratulations!

Yes this is certainly not the nature of the community, but rather the influx of a vocal few who complain because they can't do any better. Unfortunately there isn't a diablo forum in existence right now that isn't full of the same thing. As Dranoel said, voice you opinion. Part of the problem is that the ignorant trouble-makers aren't being countered by the rest of us. Nasser demonstrates the problem beautifully. Even if you personally don't like those games, its simply foolish to imply that two of the top games of all time are bad (especially one as dominantly popular as WoW). Furthermore, it takes no thought to simply post a contrary statement without giving some basis or explanation for you claim, and it certainly does nothing to further the discussion.

Sadly, such is life on any forum.

posted a message on Φ *New* Site Design Suggestions
I may not be a senior member with a huge post count that most everyone else in this thread is, but I have some input that may be helpful to the discussion and benefitial to the site.

I have been coming to the sight for a couple years now to read the news and rumors about Diablo 3. I joined way back, but for the sake of my sanity I thought it better not get involved in discussing anything until there was actually something real to discuss. Had I been talking about the game all this time the waiting would likely have killed me :P. Now that the day has finally come I'm quite anxious to join in the fun, though I have been deterred by the same storm of redundant posts that seem to be bothering many of you. Most of these posts often lack any insight or useful information, and those that do are lost in the shuffle.

    51.

It seems this problem has given many of us the same idea that there needs to be a way to separate the good information and discourse from the bad. I don't intend to add to the discussion about the forum clan, but rather offer a related idea. Aside from a private forum I suggest a system of featured posts or articles. The idea of this system is to allow well constructed, insightful ideas, theories, and arguments to be expressed in a place that is highly visible and easily accessible to everyone. This would work to benefit more than just the senior members, but everyone that visits the site. With that great link Blizzard has given us, there will likely be a lot of people looking here for insight they can't get from the official site. A prominent voice of reason such as this will help increase the popularity of the site, and with any luck, reduce the influence of the complaints and inaccurate information that is spreading around the general forums.

Of course, this does not solve every problem. It isn't a substitutes for a real discussion, and in turn, wouldn't remove the need for the forum clan.

I hope I am not rambling too much. It seems, since the game was announced, I can't seem to get much sleep ;). Since it will likely be quite a while until I can actually play I may be in for a rather long haul.

Thanks for reading. I'm interested to hear what you all think.

posted a message on DiabloFans...Add currency. You're the next D2JSP
Well it wouldn't have to be like D2jsp, but it could be more along the lines of the trading system they had at diabloii.net. It didn't have its own currency system, but it was more convenient and user-friendly. Either way, it would probably be best to see what kind of in-game trading systems blizzard comes up with before making one here.

posted a message on Classes and Skills - Please keep all KNOWN skills and classes discussion here
Well the whole "will they leave so-and-so out" is pretty contingent on how many classes they end up having. If they stick with 5 they obviously have to leave something out, and they did say that they don't want to just copy them all over. So unless they do up the number, some of our favorites are getting replaced. Either way, I think we'll all like what we get. :)

I do recommend reading the new book series that came out a while back. It provides some insight into how the demons and angels relate to Sanctuary, and how the worldstone affects that. It has been quite a long time since I have played through D2 or watched the cinematics (I can seem to find my cds anymore) but if I recall correctly, and if I got it right in the first place, the soulstones seemed to be related to the ability of the 3 to stay in sanctuary. This is opposed to the common idea that people have about the stones being related to their existence at all. If I am correct the destruction of the worldstone would mean a breaking of the barriers that kept them and all the other bad things at bay. Another thing the books at least mention is the abyss, and how it is, apparently, escapable. The previous games also hinted at this idea, so there is plenty of possibility (even precedent) for them to come back.

Well there is no way there won't be a diablo in this game. The thing about demons in this story is they tend to be quite hard to get rid of. The destruction of the world stone certainly servers as an opening not only for countless demons, both new and old, to pour into Sanctuary, but it also opens the door to the high heavens. I think they will take the number and extent of the bosses in this game to a much higher, grander level.

posted a message on Classes and Skills - Please keep all KNOWN skills and classes discussion here
Many people in this thread and the others like it I have read are getting a bit too hung up on mechanics, so I would like to offer and alternative aproach. I'm going to assume 5 classes at the moment (since that is a certain minimum) if more are added later then thats great, but lets go with what we know.

My ideas relate not to how the classes fit in terms of combat role so much as lore. Everyone seems certain that the witch doctor has replaced the necromancer, and as much as I hate to admit it that seems possible. However, its important to realize the significant role that necromancers play in the lore and storyline of sanctuary. I think it may be prudent to not count them out so quickly. Take the case of the barbarian as an example. They have the obviouse role of pure melee/tank. However, there is no real reason to have brought this character over simply to fill this role when there are plenty of other options. There is good reason, however, to bring them due to their close ties to the story and lore of Mt. Arreat and what happens at the end of D2:LoD with the worldstone. Another important thing to note for those of you considering the class roles is that there isn't really anything about the witch doctor that is so closely related to the necromancer. In fact, his abilities are much more in line with a darker form of the druid than a necromancer. He has a slower, aoe-type casting style, and summons wolf-like minions. The only thing that I can see to indicate necromancer is the wall of zombies, but that doesn't really mean much in terms of role, and it certainly doesn't replace the necromancer's role in the lore. Even if they do leave the necromancer out, it is quite likely he will return in the expansion.

Beyond this issue, a good point was raised about being able to choose male or female for each class and how this doesn't fit with the Amazon. Its possible Blizzard will find some convenient way around this or simply have them be an exception. I feel that it is more likely they will have a more general rogue that borrows a bit from the amazon and assassin. This is based partly in that I'm sure there will be some class of this style, but also because neither of these classes is planted too deeply in the lore or storyline and they would be more easily removed.

It is also pretty certain that some type of pure, direct, mage-type class will be there.

That leaves us with the issue of the paladin. In this case, especially, though also in general the original poster's evaluation of the classes from d2 is based only on their later states after 1.10. This leaves out a lot about what they once were, and I think that can be misleading. The paladin's place in the lore is somewhere around the level of the sorceress imo. They are prominent, but not pivotal. Unlike the sorc,
though, they do not have as sound of a combat role, and are therefore less likely to be a top choice. Though the role of a knight (especially the role of a holy warrior) isn't yet spoken for. This is of special interest due to the emphasis that they are placing on "skills over potions." With this in mind it is reasonable to believe they would have at least one class that has considerable healing abilities (especially when joined with the focus on multi-player co-op).

Now that I have theorized a bit I'll take my shot at the class lineup:

    Barbarian
    Witch Doctor
    Rogue
    Mage
    Necromancer
    ~(if more than 5)~
    Paladin
*at this point who knows maybe another variant of something old or something entirely new :-)

It is important to remember that this is all pure speculation. I'm quite excited about everything no matter what the end result turns out to be.

P.S. as a side note to those talking about this "angle/demon" class: I believe Majpain kinda got it right that playing anything non-human doesn't fit the game. If you don't believe me, I suggest you read the sin war books so you can see that the entire premise of Sanctuary is that humans are to triumph. Wouldn't make much sense, then, if the player triumphed as some angel or demon instead would it?
