    "I'm a casual"...................

Profile shows he's been playing 21 hours a day since the start of the season.

    rebirth maybe?

    think before talking , maybe?
Why so caustic? It has nothing to do with "thinking" but rather a trivial piece of information that the poster was not privy to (that the cumulative time played carries over on a rebirthed character.) I'm sure it's more of a generational thing, but the animosity and overarching rudeness so prevalent today really bothers me (not that you would care as that is part of the disconnection everyone seems to have for their fellow man.) Does it help you feel better/smarter to respond like that?

Blizz didn't remove the Staff of Herding mats. In fact I got lucky and grabbed the Gibbering Gemstone the first day of Season 4 so I took some time and gathered the other items and now I have my staff :)

posted a message on Getting the Furnace is complete BS.

I lucked out the first day of Season 4 and found one when I was level 43 and leveling up my first Season 4 char to 70. Had to wait until I leveled up a bit though to cube it obviously lol. After that I've found one more so far. Both Furnaces I found using my Barb.

The bottom line for me is leader boards are stupid, in a game with so much RNG that much of your progress is dictated by luck or time. Good luck + ability too play massive number of hours is not competition IMHO.
I don't care about leaderboards either (except to get an idea of how the characters are geared and what skills they incorporate which has been educational.) It would be great to be able to base a leaderboard on skill level but what criteria would you use to to accomplish that? Would the game say, "wow look at how fast Timmy kills elites and he's only played this char for xx amount of hours." That would be a huge hit on the servers to monitor and evaluate every player, 24 hours a day and try to calculate who should be "worthy" of the leaderboard. And even then, people would argue about whatever criteria might be used and what constitutes true "skill" vs. luck. A simple criteria like highest Grift completed makes sense even if it is not able to take into account "how much skill" it took to complete.

The truth is; HC is more of a challenge than Standard, this cannot be argued. It isn't up for debate.

The game isn't more of a challenge, it just has a lose condition. In fact, the way many people play HC the game ends up being significantly LESS of a challenge, because you avoid anything that could seriously threaten the life of your character. In Season 3, a Softcore group of 4 cleared grift 77. In Hardcore, the higher cleared grift was 68. I would wager that nobody in Hardcore ever even attempted a 77.
Simply put, some people enjoy the challenge of taking on content that pushes the limits of their gear more than the "challenge" of not disconnecting and not having a partner that gets you killed. Some people enjoy trying again when they fail to meet that challenge, rather than giving up and starting over. Which isn't to discount the challenge of keeping yourself alive, but just to say that it is a very different challenge, and not necessarily "more" of one.
I have to say I agree. On the times I've played HC, I was overly cautious and never tried "pushing" my character to see what he/she could handle. For people that play HC exclusively, I know they push WAY, WAY harder than someone like myself, but like HarleyM stated, they aren't going to go gonzo as often like a SC char will.

I'm not seeing the issue here. The single player leaderboard is simply for showcasing how well a character goes at it alone (single character in the Grift.) If you play multiplayer to level/gear up and and then test yourself against a Grift all by your lonesome, I don't see any problems with that.

I think maybe some are confusing single player with solo player. I play multiplayer a vast majority of the time unless I'm specifically working on something that I'd rather just do alone (like recently I found the Gibbering Gemstone the first day of Season 4 during a bounty and the next day I found the Liquid Rainbow during a bounty so I decided to waste a little time and look for the rest of the pieces of my Staff of Herding.)

I'm sure this has been mentioned before, but maybe Blizz could include a SOLO leaderboard and have it check for characters that have joined a multiplayer game and if so, that character would not show up on the SOLO leaderboard. You character file could have a simple data flag that when checked would designate whether a char has ever joined a multiplayer game.

posted a message on How to mod the XP rate for singleplayer?
You would start by modifying the "Monlvl" file and changing the amount of experience for each monster level (ie. a Nightmare Zombie 1 enemy is a level 36 monster and would give you 2568 experience points.) You can use the "Monstats" file as a cross reference for what level each enemy type is. I used to make mods back in the day for D2. I had a Full Sets drop mod, an XP mod, a Uniques drop mod and a Boss mod. Fun times :)

Forgot to mention, after you make the changes, you either need to add those modified files back to the patch file or create a subdirectory in your main D2 folder (data\global\excel) and place your modified txt file in the excel folder. Then you need to add "-direct -txt" to the Target line of the shortcut on your desktop under Properties. You have to start the game and actually load a char to have the game generate the .bin files (which you will now see in your excel folder.) Then exit the game and restart and you will see your changes have now taken effect when you start killing monsters. There may be a tool for editting the .bin file directly as I seem to remember something like that, but you'll have to check the phrozen site for that.)

I ran routes similar to Azri and I'm being totally honest when I say I killed over 270 goblins before I found the Vault. It took 3 and a half days of farming to find it so hang in there and keep searching and you will eventually have that elusive portal pop open :)
