Lt._Venom posted a message on Bowazon Skills? (Hardcore Ladder)Posted in: Diablo IIQuote from Shoji
I have played necromancers pretty hardcore in the past, without much experience as an amazon. The Amazon skills do not have many synergies like the Necromancer skills do, which leaves me a little confused as to what stats are optimal to max and why.
I've done a little research at some "builds" that are available through google and even the d2 wiki, but some of the suggestions make little or no sense. So here are some simple questions I would like to request some input, guidance or even your personal opinions (keep in mind I am playing on Hardcore Ladder, with the goal of hitting 99):
Guided Arrow:
- Seems like an no-brainer to max!
I never really used Guided Arrow, would be good for the main skill and having an elemental arrow as secondary.
Multi-Shot vs. Strafe:
- I have read many times about getting "strafe-locked" and dying. I have no points in Strafe and have opted for Multi shot. What are the pros and cons of each?
- Should these skills be maxed after I
choose which one I want to keep?
Strafe was my choice. The only reason people died to strafe-lock is because they weren't repositioning themselves between each volley. Plus Strafe puts all damage mods on each and every arrow, whereas Multi-shot puts effects on the middle 2 or 3 arrows while the rest are normal arrows (no poison or fire). Knockback kicks ass here, since that also helps deal with the strafe-lock. I would not recommend immolation arrow with a knockback bow because it defeats the purpose of the insta-campfire.
Elemental Arrow Skills (Fire/Ice Trees):
- One guide mentioned pursuing one tree and focusing on its synergies, while another guide didn't even mention the elemental trees. Any suggestions/feedback/personal opinions?
Go with what you like. Cold is good as it can help keep the monsters away from you, whereas fire does more damage and can allow for crowd control. Try Maxed Immolation Arrow with full Pierce, you get several campfires going.
Valkyrie/Decoy:
- I have Valkyrie at level 6 (I just hit lvl 50) and am very comfortable with her so far. She does great! Is it recommended to max this skill? It seems like it should be a no-brainer!
Valkyrie is a no-brainer, just make sure to invest a little bit into decoy for life bonuses for the valk.
Penetrate:
- One "build" I read recommended maxing this skill, while another suggested 5 points at max. I am level 50 and have it at 12 points and realize I could have made a mistake by pursuing this skill to its fullest. What do you think about it? Absolutely necessary to max?
It's there to help with hitting the monsters. Elementalists only need this if they want to get better piercing. Pierce won't work if the arrow gets blocked by a shield or hits armor.
Pierce:
- All of the builds I have seen so far recommend one point only. Do you agree?
1 point is a little to small, try to get a few into it.
Dodge/Avoid/Evade:
- Are these worth maxing? If anything I would love to max Evade as I spend most of my time running around packs of mobs
Don't max them since you generally don't want to expose yourself to begin with, due to low health concerns. A few points into each will benefit you and your Valkyrie. -

Verity posted a message on Elemental question...Posted in: Diablo III General Discussion
Elemental dmg is included in the DPS calculation.Quote from Akuma Seijin
Although I am a very addicted to my fav game of all time (D) I mightve missed this.
So say I have a sword that is 8.4 dps and it has +4 lightning damage....is that plus 4 included into the calculation of the 8.4 or is it extra?
As seen on http://us.battle.net/d3/en/item/butchers-carver
The weapon only has 36-40 damage and 1 Attack per second. It also adds 9-18 fire damage.
38 (average damage) + 13.5 (average fire dmg) = 51.5
51.5 * 1 = 51.5 DPS -

Apoc posted a message on Random EncountersApologies if this has already been posted, but I thought this video was pretty neat. It shows an encounter created by the procedural generation of the game. It gives the player a short quest for the encounter too. Not too hard for normal, but I can only imagine what it must be like on Inferno difficulty. This kind of stuff is very encouraging for the replay value of D3Posted in: Diablo III General Discussion

OneTwoSC posted a message on Recording Diablo 3 (Fraps)Hey guys, I know a lot of people are probably getting very interested in recording this game/beta (or recording in general). I've been recording for over a year now on my SC2 channel, but have just recently experimented more deeply with Fraps (to try and squeeze performance out of it). It's one thing to record the SC2 Editor, but it's another to record SMOOTHLY in-game without hampering your game performance but ALSO getting a good quality video.Posted in: General Discussion (non-Diablo)
Here's my findings that I hope helps others:

P.S. - And like I said in the video, let me know if you have any tips (or corrections)...
Edit: Link for Blackmagic disk speed test is down a few posts... -

Roselhort posted a message on Utility spells that "can't" level upAre people implying that higher level spells are going to be better than lower level spells? Have you been under a rock?Posted in: Diablo III General Discussion
Generally every spell will attempt to be equally useful. Of course some will naturally be a little underpowered or underwhelming, which will be resolved with balance patches. The idea is that every spell at every level is equally useful. Ones that generally have more powerful effects come at a drastic cost in terms of time or resources.
You level up utility by being better at the game. Teleport does not kill enemies. Set it at level 1, set it at level 30, it is not going to matter if you have a terrible sense of positioning and you do not know which offensive ability is appropriate at the right time.
Quite frankly, utility spells that become stronger with skill points are terribly flawed. Either they were not fun until you maxed them out (thus spending 20 levels putting points into something you cannot use until it's ready), or trivializing the difficulty of the game. A ability does not need to stun for 0.3 seconds at level 1 and 6 seconds at level 20. It should just stun for 6 seconds at any level, and how the player follows up should be up to her. I will not even get into the terribly designed skills that only took 1 point to be effective for your characters life-span.
Diablo III is designed in such a way that you are going to perform much better, offensively and defensively, by picking a few utility abilities instead of excessive means to kill. Utility does not need to scale up, because utility on its own is only as effective as the player and the rest of their tools.
Just as your teleport works the same at the level you got it, with the way things scale, your Magic Missile will only improve as far as you rune it; it is not like they scale up with level disproportionately. - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

I don't understand what you're saying, man. Season7 is the same patch as season 8. All season7 builds will work in season 8. No new tweaks to skills or items will be introduced.
