so I've tried to find something about if blizz is going to do a open beta of D3 before release, but i guess I'm blind. i know the closed beta will start in a week and go for about a month and a half or so, but anywhere in their are they going to let hundreds of thousands of people try it? just would like a quote of them saying yes/no/maybe so...please. thank you!

They've not said anything, but it would be a great marketing ploy to release it as a pre-release purchase gift or as a demo for the masses before release day.

So they answer is; as of right now there is no open beta planned, but it's not out of the question

It was merely an interesting build idea. I probably wouldn't run it because it forces me to take certain skills that I normally wouldn't use and gimps them even further.

yes, while your heart was in the right place, the math behind the build just isn't viable or practical at all. now the fact that the build you made is interesting and SHOULD do what you want it to do means that blizzard definitely should change the "20% better chance to drop treasure" to "20% chance of getting better items". honestly its a great idea and it should do exactly what you want it to do. but since the other skills have crazy AOE 700% dmg and stuff like that makes it so a damage build's will trump a MF build to find items when it really SHOULDNT.

    Really nice.

Only thing I would recommend is you take Threatening Shout with Demoralize.
Because tanking means that the mobs attack you and not the wizard killing them.
You need something to really prevent that and draw the mobs on you.
Threatening gives you that plus a nice Weakening.

I'd maybe switch it with whirlwind because the other skills seem to be too central for your tanking role.

done :), great idea thanks, i missed that skill. would've started with that :P

actually after thinking a lot about this, those skills don't improve the chances on the QUALITY of the items. just slightly better chances to drop treasure at all. and all those combined isn't even 100% extra, so say if you have a build that can kill monsters 3x faster then your build (which that wouldn't be hard to make) then technically thats a 300% better chance of finding items then your build because I'm killing 3x as many monsters. so since those skills don't increase the quality of the item its pretty useless... sorry to say. they should change it to the quality of items dropped THEN this build would be amazing. :P

Your math may be exaggerated but you are right. Killing things faster is optimal. You kinda shoot your self in the foot at the end, higher MF isn't much better than increased chance of dropping items.

Higher MF will allow for a better chance of finding quality items and other items by a ridiculously small chance. Example 0.000012321453% * 22% = crap all. Remember any specific magical item in D2 was way less than a 1% chance to drop.

Higher chance of finding an item applies the same rates finding an item but probably of lesser quality but since the numbers are so low it doesn't really matter.

In the end killing things quicker is your best option.

well yea i know i exaggerated, but you get what i meant. 100% agree :)

So I noticed that the Barbarian is the only class that has 2 rune effects that increase MF. I worked on this build to make him the ultimate farm machine. He needs the fury generation to spam his two MF abilities, and he gets most of his defense from his passives other than the heal from Frenzy (Runed alabaster). This build requires a lot of crit in order to be effective with the obsidian rune of Battle Rage.

the idea of this build is not for damage at all, its for being the tank in Inferno for other people while your wizards/witch doctors/demon hunters kill everything. i have some nice aoe that stuns for aggro and then of course its mainly focused on healing/armor to stay alive, I've got the health globes passive so when they drop I'm healed a ton because i should be getting most/all of the globes. also revenge has a 31% chance to proc when I'm hit healing me for 5% PER enemy, and my war cry gives me 50% health bonus AND heals me for a bit each second. i have overpower that heals me for 18% when i use it, so i have a ton of health generating effects. i should be pretty invincible in this :D. what do you think?

i love how people are seeing this as a sign of the game not coming out this year, first off no one thought any type of beta was going to start till end of september. and the FNF beta started real early and they've already fixed a ton of stuff. making each skill use a different amount of resource and changing the resource for one class will take a week, and obviously its already been under development so its most likely already finished they just have to implement it. so no this will not delay ANYTHING, there still on track for a nov-dec release. closed beta will start before sept is over, then open beta sometime in october. then finishing up november. :) woot!!!

No plans for an open beta at all though.

they will invite more and more waves of random people to join so its all good. still plenty of chances to get in before its release. also its only 1/3rd of the first act so getting in isn't a big deal at all. you'd get every character to max level in less then 6 hours. (13) either way its not getting delayed and is still coming out this year. ^_^

posted a message on Best WD build for farming
so as far as the skills are concerned that are revealed so far, this is what I've come up is going to be easiest or at least very close to the easiest / best build for farming inferno.

    http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/witch-doctor#fSjZUg!bXY!ZYZaZb

I've got the dogs healing themselves and me, also the gargantuan with 700% cleave so with the passives thats 4 dogs total and all have 60% extra health. and hex will summon a shaman to hex beasts and also periodically heal myself and my minions for a TON. and it only has a 10 second CD and a 8 second duration so he will constantly be up keeping me and my minions all at full health constantly, also have the mana passive skill so i don't run out. i have mass confusion with the 80% dmg buff so the powerful enemies in inferno will attack each other and take additional damage. and then of course firebomb with the extra big explosion that i can spam. and then sacrifice with a 70% chance to resummon the dogs i explode in case i run real low on mana i can still have my tanks while doing AOE damage without mana cost. but with the mana passive ill get my mana back n be able to firebomb again. the only problem i see is just like in D2 the inferno monsters having high resist from fire. so in that case my pet dmg plus sacrifice will have to kill the immunes, obviously this could all change depending on how monsters are in inferno. but i think this build should pwn pretty hard. :D

what do you think will be the easiest/best build?

posted a message on WD pets permanent (woot!)
    Quote from Audacitus

Actually, you can make the army permanent as well. Use the rune to reduce the cooldown to 50, then select the passive that reduces fetish army cooldown by 25%; 25% of 50 is 12.5 seconds and since they last for 20 seconds, they are virtually permanent you just have to keep casting them every 20 seconds but the cooldown will no longer be a factor.

Edit: Sorry, that's wrong, reducing by 25% would remove 12.5 seconds from the 50 leaving it at 37.5 seconds cooldown so you will be without them for 17.5 seconds - no big deal really

well regardless with 3 (i think thats max?) powerful zombie dogs, gargantuan and then fettish army whenever available. then you spam the fire and poison spells, he will be INVINCIBLE :o. which you can make 65% of zombie dog dmg heal you so you can virtually be indestructible with your pet tanks and being constantly healed. lets just hope n pray that his damage spells are actually comparable to the wizards in inferno. otherwise he'll be as fail as the necro was in d2. :/

edit: with the passive skill "zombie handler" you can have 4 dogs, and 80% increased life. so they'll be SUPER l33t. but i also noticed they removed the passive skill to increase their dmg by 60%, most likely so you use them as tanks, not damage doers. they don't want you to sit back and do nothing, they want you spamming spells with your pets :D

posted a message on WD pets permanent (woot!)
so since the new skill calc is out, and after thoroughly reading every skill and with rune effects, its definitely obvious that the zombie dogs are permanent until dead. and that the gargantuan also seems permanent (unless ruined with gold). which is super amazing and will make him a lot easier to play, but the "fetish army' is not permanent because it specifically says for how long they last, the zombie dogs and gargantuan don't. with a super powered gargantuan with a blue rune (i forget the name lol) and zombie dogs also with blue for 70% damage link, the WD more then ever i think will be the easiest to power through the game and get through inferno easily by himself, i already thought this but after reading his skills I'm 100% sure now. wooot! WD rules! open beta soon!

posted a message on how do i play D2 on mac OS 10.7.1?
    Quote from Wingless

Some time ago before the launch of Lion, Blizzard said the older games are no longer supported (as of 10.7).

    Official Blizzard Quote:

This summer, Apple is scheduled to release Mac OS X 10.7, Lion. Due to advances in Mac operating systems, StarCraft, StarCraft: Broodwar, Diablo II and Diablo II: Lord of Destruction will not run on 10.7.While these titles will not be able to run natively in 10.7, they should still be able to operate under Boot Camp. And of course, we will still support these titles running in 10.6 and below natively. At this time, we expect Warcraft III to run natively in Mac OS X 10.7. As Lion's release date gets closer, we look forward to having more details for our Mac community. For more information about Mac OS X 10.7 Lion, please see Apple's website:

i read that, but it doesn't say anything about wc3... and wc3 won't work either....

so I've tried to find stuff about playing d2 and wc3 on the mac os 10.7.1 and i guess theres something called "power pc' that is no longer supported... but i was wondering if i could somehow download something (NOT windows) to make it so i can play it on my mac, OR if apple/blizzard is planning on implementing a fix for this in the near future? i mean blizzard must know that no one with the latest mac OS can play any of their old games... any info on this subject would be great! thanks!
