Here are my 2 cents on this.
They will have to make it pay to play because it will cost them to run servers + service them in order to support millions of players. No matter if they make it 5 or 15 bucks a month, we all will pay to play the game, because we know Blizzard is all about quality.
In my opinion they made WoW first is to see how the market will react to a MMO they have created. They themselved awknowleged how surprised they were with the response. With all the shortages and the demand across the world. Anyways ... Now that they have a full grasp of the market as well as the know how to about creating MMO and all the techies about it, they can REALLY MAKE a great D3 game. The last thing they need is to have hackers + bugs ruin the game for us. For sure, the new D3 WILL break all the records previously set by WoW. Only time will tell ........
