Either solo or with someone else who is as interested in playing it through as me.

And I'll be playing fast, but thorough. So as quickly as I can go through the game completing as much as I can. Might skip a few small dungeons, especially in early acts, but will be doing almost everything.

Can we please get this relocated to the witch doctor forums? I don't see anything 'general' about this topic. :)

I'm going based off of everything we've seen. Nowhere have they said that bosses drop good loot. In fact, they've explicitly said they're trying to discourage boss runs, which makes it quite likely that some system similar to what we have now(where bosses don't drop good items, but the quest for killing them rewards something cool) will hit live. Which is really sad, since it COMPLETELY removes the OPTION of boss runs for those people out there who enjoy them. I'd like to have it be worthwhile to kill the boss after you clear the area - but with the information we have now it seems like it won't be worth it. It sounds like the best thing to do will be to clear up to the room RIGHT before the boss, quit, create a new game, and redo - since the bosses will likely be difficult, take a while, and not drop good loot.

FYI the information we have now:

    1) RAres/champs drop best loot.
    2) They're trying to discourage boss runs.
    3) Beta shows bosses have very low drop rate except on first kill.

That's all we know, and that REALLY strongly points to bosses being a complete waste of time after the first kill. Tell me how else to interpret what we know?

Krag... as it is right now, bosses don't drop any better loot than your regular every day mob except the first time. Which means boss runs are useless. In fact, they're wasteful in the current model meaning NOBODY will want to do them.

If you look at the beta... and they've said that things are toned DOWN a lot for the first act... you can typically run into 2-3 SETS of champion/rare monsters per 'dungeon'. Sometimes 5-6. I doubt that people are going to have 'trouble' finding champions since they're probably going to be MORE common at higher difficulties since they want to make it easy for us by reducing the numbers of nearly everything for act 1 normal.

I have a thought on this.
Blizzard's philosophy is letting people kill whatever they want in Inferno to get good loot, last I checked.

This is counter to that philosophy.

Hear me out: Sure this is a step towards that philosophy by making people able to do things other than boss runs, but it is still contradictory to the philosophy in truth - just on the opposite end of the spectrum.

Why? Some people out there LIKE boss runs. This is making them completely UNABLE to perform the action they enjoy and still get good loot. So it is actually restricting some people from doing what they want within the game.

You got to admit... this is a bit of a fail on Sam's part.

"We don't care about money... its all for our fans."
I will agree, that is kind of a fail. I mean I'm sure and do believe to an extent that they genuinely enjoy satisfying their fans, maybe because it makes the fans happy, but ALSO because satisfied customers are returning customers. He should have just been up front. Of course, we're a company, we're going to do these things to make money, it's what keeps this business going and making games for the fans.

I just don't see why people see anything wrong in promotions like these. They seem pretty standard to me. What's wrong with Blizzard making money? LOL I wonder sometimes if people expect that this company can run without money...

There is absolutely nothing wrong with Blizzard wanting to make money. Its just the way they make it.

    - Separating Starcraft 2 into 3 different games instead of 1
    - Using the excuse of shady 3rd person websites for the RMAH (which btw I am a fan of) instead of plainly saying that they want to generate a consistent income from D3
    - Using D3 as a means of making money on WoW and not admitting it.

Like you said, if Blizzard took an honest and clear approach to the way they say these things, there will be a lot less complaining. =)

People like you GENUINELY piss me off. And that ain't easy.

Blizzard did NOT SPLIT STARCRAFT TWO INTO THREE GAMES. It is STARCRAFT TWO and TWO EXPANSION SETS. Was Starcraft 1 split into 2 games? No! It was ONE game and then ONE expansion set. One game with approximately 27 missions of campaign content - who cares if they split it into 3 campaigns in stead of 1, I much prefered the WoL campaign to the original SC campaigns because there was a lot more story.

I'm sure when designing the RMAH the initial thought was 'how can we keep the economy in the game'. Probably sometime after that they decided that it would also be a good way to make money, but I doubt their first thought was 'how can we make money'. Monetizing games usually comes much later in the development process.

They aren't using D3 as a way to make money for WoW. They're using D3 as a way to ensure WoW subscribers continue subscribing while playing D3. It's a bonus. NOBODY is going to sign up for WoW just to get the annual pass(I think it's even an eligibility restriction actually), but for people who do play WoW who were considering quitting WoW for 3-4 months to play D3... this has stopped them from having to. Which is a win for Blizzard, definitely. But it's also a win for the player because it means that if he WANTS to he can still go back to WoW during those 3-4 months without paying extra. And also, it means that a lot of people who would've NEVER touched Diablo will now get to experience it. Another with for Blizzard.

Bosses take a lot longer to kill so they shoudl have a PROPORTIONALLY higher chance to drop loot. This isn't encouraging people to farm wherever they want, it's DISCOURAGING people from going anywhere near a boss.

If, for example, a champion took 30 seconds to kill and had a 1% chance to drop x item while a boss took 2 minutes and had a 4.5%(to recognize the increased time it took and the difficulty), that would still encourage people to farm wherever because champions would have a PROPORTIONATE chance to drop the item. But having bosses lower than champ/rare means that once they've finished inferno they will NEVER go near a boss again - too risky, and less rewarding.
