posted a message on What will it take to get blizzard to add more options for PVP?
Quite frankly I think they should consider bringing back in game PvP. Call me crazy but I think PKing should always be a part of Diablo rofl. But then again, it doesn't make as much sense given the 4 player limit per game.

Blizzard could sue third party sites and ban sellers and buyers.

Yes, Blizzard wold profit greatly from going to court for every third party seller there is.

You have no idea how the real world works do you?
lol. yes this is true.. you can't chase around tens of thousands of people for $5 lawsuits

If you want to play D2/LOD with better graphics you should play Torchlight, honestly. I'm very excited for every Diablo 3 aspect that has been revealed so far.. a little nervous about some, but excited. You can't really expect some tremendous resemblance between the two games, their release dates are over 10 years apart and RPGs have changed.

I think it's totally and utterly bizarre that someone with StarCraft in their name and logo is making this argument.

    You should know better.

    SC1 came out in 1998.

    SC2 came out in 2010.

12 years. Yet SC2 is REMARKABLY similar to SC1! Some reviewers even openly criticised it for that! It's definitely the same visual style, the same audio style, the same sort of plot, and most importantly, the gameplay is virtually identical. There are no changes as big as removing skillpoints and stat points, or adding an RMAH.

Yet you are arguing that because D3 is coming out 11 years after it D2, it's totally unreasonable to expect it to be similar, and we're all big jerks who should go play Torchlight (which is actually more like Diablo 1 with no bugs and WoW-style graphics).

I mean what? 12 years is fine for SC, but 11 is too long for Diablo... And don't try and tell me it's because RTSes haven't changed. DoW1/2 and CoH totally changed RTSes forever in the period in-between SC1 and SC2. Whereas isometric ARPGs are still imitating D2.

I was simply focusing on RPGs when posting that. Yes, of course BW and SC2 and exceedingly similar, but it is a completely different genres. SC is an e-sport, the risk of changing game systems and mechanics is far greater. Blizzard simply does not have to worry about that because they have far more leeway in D3. I think to a certain extent (skill system, runes, ah, etc etc) this is true.

Also, when the op described his desire for a d3 that felt like d2 with better graphics I think TL is the perfect suggestion. I'm surprised anyone who played TL can refute the almost creepy resemblance to D2. It essentially is the game but with better graphics. I guess all it's really missing is a decent story and mplayer - still think it's a big mistake didnt get TL2 out by the summer.

posted a message on Will Diablo 3 run better with a SSD?
This thread is making me want to invest in a SSD myself. They've come down a lot in price in the past month or two. I would expect D3 to be similar to SC2 with the longest load time immediately when you launch the game and then little to no loading to follow.

posted a message on RE: New skill system
I'm pretty sure I'm up to speed with all the changes/eliminations in the game systems but there are some wholes. As mentioned before, it's weird to make 1 barb and have no reason to make a 2nd (HC, male/female doesn't really count to me). I think that's a real problem. My question is, what permanent decisions do you even make for a character? Sex and HC/SC? :\

posted a message on What game are you playing to pass the time?
It would have been worth it for Runic Games to get Torchlight II out this summer. I would have picked it up and enjoyed the mplayer during the summer to tide me over for D3. But as it is, I will likely not play TL2 at all. :\ It's too bad really, just bad timing from the publisher. I even wonder if I will be able to tear myself from D3 to delve into Skyrim, we'll just have to see. As of now the only games i play are SC2 and SF4.

posted a message on Beta Duration
I would predict something along these lines: Beta launches Sept 1-7, Beta closes Nov ~15, Retail launch Dec 10-15.

SC2 beta required far more extensive testing (understandable) so we'll probably see the D3 beta last less than half the length of Starcraft. It should be really fun even if it's just 90 minutes of gameplay, I'll play through the content with every character more than once for sure. Also, there's probably some interesting secrets to discover even in the early stages of act i. ;)

posted a message on Diablo 3 release date almost gaurenteed at Blizzcon
I'm sure that Blizzard will come through on their promise of a Q3 Beta launch, it would be very unprofessional to delay beyond October 1st. That being said, I'm still very iffy about a 2011 release unless the Beta testing period is exceedingly short. SC2 beta lasted from Mid Feb until just before retail launch (July 27) - Blizzard would have to run a beta test lasting about half that time period and I just don't think that's very realistic. I wonder what aspects of SC2 require so much more testing than that of D3. How long into the SC2 beta did blizzard announce the retail release date??
