I see both sides. It initially feels like it will be a grind to find a specific desired rune. But combined with the fact that you don't have to fight for dropped items and there is a great AH to sell/find runes, I think it will not only be a blast to hunt for them but it won't be as tedious as it seems.
IMO- for the people who love the aspect of interchangeable skill on the fly and for the people who desire a more concrete way of building a characters identity, this rune system seems to be a solid middle ground. I support it.

But I do agree. Even every few months...release even just a couple dozen new items into the mix.
Thumbs up to that idea. But it won't matter. I doubt it will happen.

RPGs may have other game modes in which player can compete between one another, but generally, RPGs are story driven, long extensive experiences. They are all about smelling the roses, especially the Elder Scrolls series, IMO.
I'd say games nowadays are more about MORE MORE MORE NOW NOW NOW!!! Lets fight! I want to beat you! win!!!
The youth has grown up with Tigerblood in their systems and its all about winning. Unfortunately, they end up being trolls themselves.
As you said, Pvp or competition in general, is definitely a good thing and should be a part of all games. I just think a select group/demographic of people take that to an unnecessary level.
What I'm taking from your post is that a lot of people play to win, not to play to play. I too would like to see people 'slow down' and enjoy the experience a game brings....however you want to take that.
What I was trying to say earlier, was that the people complaining there is no competitive PvP in D3 are wrong IMO. Competition seems facilitated and encourage from what I've read/seen.
What do I know,

Its just those damn kids! Which, unfortunately, does not relate to age.

But I agree with Roger. As long as they allowed people to rewrite names I would welcome this feature.
I don't want to trade my axe for your Twisty Nipple of Pain sword.
Unless, I can rename it.

But to stay on subject...
I agree with your post. The Diablo franchise isn't competitive in nature, but rather cooperative PvE. I find it surprising how emotional people get about any 'lack of competition' in this game.
Without diving into a lecture-type post, I do want to add that this might be the new gaming community. EVERY game seems competitive, and the most popular games (in any genre) always have a competitive core. Again, as you stated, competitive games are awesome. Although it might be lost these days, there is a time and place for story, depth, and adventure without the motive of 'victory'. I'd like to think that's why Blizzard kept single-player mode an option.
If you want my cynical response...kids are brats, spoiled and they need discipline. KICKER: Or, maybe they don't, its just that kids play Mature rated games these days and the Mature gamers get irritated at their natural behavior.
Or what you guys said

Nice idea.

Maybe if it all incorporated a filtering process so you could choose to only see when other players pick up magical, or legendary items, or misc items...what have you.
Like the concept. Have to work out the details though!

Project Titan: Supposed to be SciFi, Historical, Post-Apocalyptical setting.
- "In the past Kaplan, who revealed he is involved in the project, was asked if the game's genre would be science fiction, post-apocalyptic, or historical, and while laughing he responded: "all of those combined!"
- "There are many others ideas that Blizzard has started and have never seen the light of day. 12 years ago, Blizzard was developing a game that called Nomad. Nomad was a group-based Sci-Fi that was worked on for several years by Blizzard. However, near the same time WoW was being conceptualized. After looking at both games, Blizzard decided to abandon Nomad for the, now popular, WoW. However, this means that there was still plenty of work that was done on Nomad before the game was removed. While no information was or has ever really been given about the game, at the 2009 Austin Game Developer Conference, some concept art from the game was shared."
Maybe resurrecting this cancelled game?
Anyway, my idea was, maybe this next gen mmo code named Titan is about the moon, Titan, which orbits Saturn. Titan is said to theoretically plausible conditions for life.
- "Scientists believe that the atmosphere of early Earth was similar in composition to the current atmosphere on Titan, with the important exception of a lack of water vapor on Titan."
- "It has also been suggested that life could exist in the lakes of liquid methane on Titan, just as organisms on Earth live in water. Such creatures would inhale H2 in place of O2, react it with acetylene instead of glucose, and exhale methane instead of carbon dioxide."
Anyway, maybe in the future, we've colonized Titan. And this is based around that moon. What the hell do i know though. I was bored at work today, so I thought of this.
Take care,
