posted a message on Blizzard, here is how Hardcore arena should work
Personally, I think loot duels should be more of a decision based before the match that both players agree to. As far as XP gain, I think it's a bad idea, most people who make duelers make multiple "levels" of duelers and you would completely kill low level dueling which in my opinion, is the most fun dueling and luckily the cheapest.

Not a bad idea, the only thing I don't particularly care for is if people could team up and split into different areas to clear the game faster. It would encourage team play but at the same time I don't think you should in theory be "punished" for playing solo.

I think that Blizzard is tuning the game such that actually soloing in a multiplayer game will be very hard. So venturing on your own in a 4 player inferno game may very well be impossible. Not saying you can't solo the content if you wanted in your own game, but when playing with others you should actually play together. Imho.

That's the rumor but of course, time will tell if inferno is really that hard. Even teams of 2(instead of 4) could possibly do it quite faster, then just group up for final act so you both get drops at a higher drop rate.

Solution: increase MF chance by a % for each boss you or your party kills. Thus you are rewarded for clearing the whole thing and even encouraged (possibly) to consider what order you go in (linear might well be the best, who knows). You could also give an increased chance to drop something that is normally not on, or very scare on the loot table. Certain runes, gems, etc.
This is actually a pretty cool idea, possibly go a step further and have extra loot, or gold, or a random gem/rune or something drop after clearing all bosses for those who do manage to clear it all in one sitting.

That would be cool. I would do it. Even if it was .05 percent per boss heh. It encrourages an entire game walkthrough. Love the idea

Do you want more outrageous gear than weve seen so far for inferno?

If it looks good, I can't deny it. Also, the more looks available, the better it is in my opinion. Would be nice to see some items with the same mods but all have different looks. :)

How difficult do you think inferno should be? Should you be able to go directly in after hell or should you have to spend a good chunk of time collecting gear to be able to accomplish it? If so, how long do you think is a reasonable amount of time? If not, why would you want it to be easier?

posted a message on all inferno creatures are level 61
What I'm half-expecting and curious about, is whether in Inferno they would start fresh players out with every waypoint, and all primary story quests would already be completed. Basically it would function like you had just cleared Hell, but with the Inferno bumped foes and gear. That really pulls off any incentive to "scale" difficulty in the later areas.

I hope they don't do that, I'm hoping they'll add environmental aspects that are new to inferno, perhaps extra dungeons/areas to clear, more quests that are designed for inferno only. Basically hoping they add stuff like that will give a fresh gaming experience than just clearing an area that has tougher monsters with varied abilities.(tho I do want tougher monsters/new monsters with better abilities)

I'd prefer it to be more cosmetic items if they were to do this at all, one side would feel screwed if they couldn't get a particular item. For an example, if you've ever seen the movie predator, if you kill someone on Hardcore in a duel, perhaps you could add "skulls" to your gear or have an item that you can hold made up of skulls. Obviously the only reason not to have it on softcore would be the huge abundance of wins you could have.

posted a message on inferno mode, end-game or filler? (att. Sixen)
    Quote from Jackzor

I would disagree. There are plenty of games (Diablo 2, Mass Effect and its sequel, the Elder Scrolls games, among others) that mostly contain PvE/PvM combat, but they easily last a very long time. If the story is interesting enough, and there are enough reasons to replay the game, it can continue on for as long as you want to keep playing it. Especially considering Blizzard seems to be hinting at post-release content, I don't see the games focus on PvE making it last any shorter than it would if it focused on PvP.

I guess I should clarify a bit more, I think PvE PvM w/e can last for a long time. The length I played d2 shows that, been playing since its release and only about two years also had PvP involved. I still have a few characters currently. I've played baldurs gate/bg2/throne of bhaal several times through and I'm still playing that as well. My argument was more for the casual gamer who doesn't feel the need to test out every build or put together the perfect set of items. I kinda took this whole discussion as what will keep players interested that aren't naturally inclined to play out every exact detail. For example, I'll probably have 30+ characters just for PvM if I'm given the room.

posted a message on inferno mode, end-game or filler? (att. Sixen)
Personally, I think that any Me Vs AI style of game WILL come to an end eventually.(Even if it takes years to gain the best items/use all builds etc) Adding ubers, dclone, cow level etc are very fun and do add a bit of time to the game but even after you've beaten those 1 or more times, you're still back to your original complaint of not having a "goal". For all we know, Inferno could play drastically different as far as monsters go(the abilities they use AND the monsters you face, hell, they might even have inferno only quests/monsters/levels etc which will make it completely different than the previous difficulties) Obviously PvP would be the long term for the majority of players. The AI obviously will eventually not be able to keep up.

With expansions and such within the next few years of release, I have no doubt that this game will last quite some time with even just inferno as its "end game". Anything Nonpvp could technically be considered a "filler".

If they do it like original d2 to LOD, you'll be starting from scratch again so it wont even matter. Only WOW expansions have let you keep the same character and continue to build upon it.

posted a message on inferno mode, end-game or filler? (att. Sixen)

Is inferno end game?... It IS end game in an ARPG viewpoint because ARPGs like champions of norrath, baldurs gate, diablo, titan quest, etc. are all about grinding until you get the best stuff and then mastering how to play your "perfect" character through the hardest difficulty runs and PvP. I don't understand how a special level, events within the game, daily quests or anything else would be any different.

Sixen said something about raids being end game for WoW and yeah it's either that or delving into PvP basically... but the equivalent in Diablo 3 would be to just add 1 extra hard new dungeon with the best loot. While Inferno isn't brand new content I'd say Blizzard did something above and beyond that by making the entire game like a raid which is pretty cool. If something like a raid qualifies "end game content" I'd say inferno difficulty easily makes it into that category.

I think based on what Sixen said about end game he'd like a unicorn level or something totally unique like that where all the monsters have like 5 levels on you and you cant get the drops anywhere else and they're also so much better than the stuff you can get in the "campaign" mode that they're absolutely game breaking when you go back for new play-throughs...

In all seriousness though, I don't get how inferno wouldn't be considered "end game content" for a game like Diablo... it's completely what the game is all about.

EDIT: ALSO!!!!!! when you beat your heroic raids and are totally geared up in a game like WoW it's the same as completing the game fully... Beating Diablo on inferno is the same thing.. so I don't get that mentality either.
Pretty much correct. Inferno I think certainly is an "end game" but I feel that d2 and hopefully d3 will have multiple end game content.

D2 had PvP, gear perfecting, many builds, ubers, dclone, cow level etc. D3 appears to have these as well but will make grinding less boring. Obviously they might not have the last 3 I mentioned specifically, but I'd be shocked if they didn't have other variations similar to this. I also think that if they don't have some of these, they WILL add them in eventually as they did in D2.

posted a message on Kinda bummed now
OP, Diablo is about perfecting your character, not continually expanding story. Plot helps drive the game of course, but it's not what makes the game replayable. It's about the of high difficulties, finding better gear, PvP, and exploring different builds, all the while trying to find obscure builds that work better than anyone would have thought.

    Agree with this

This is exactly why competitive pvp and game modes should be developed and supported ( I.e. Content racing, "hoard mode," etc.). Eventually the story line will end. There needs to be some form of cometition to encourage loot farming for more than it's own sake, and of course the given that these options would be insanely fun!

Agree again, hopefully they will add more content to keep us even more busy.

Mostly agree with this. Their intent with inferno is more of the true question. Is it truly meant to be a test or does it go along with their agenda of the casual gamer who can make progress in the 30 minutes he plays a week?
