I'd never seen that rune effect video until now... I'd seen the other vid with the stationary characters firing off skills but the effects they have on monsters is so cool to see. I LOVE all the WD altered skills. A giant monster eating toad?! GENIUS!!! Saying that, it'd be interesting to see how the rune levels change the animations of things like that toad, if they do at all.

    :wd:

EDIT: Also, just for peoples' general knowledge and comparison I counted the number of monsters in the D2 Bestiary and there's about 73 all up, from Act 1-5 (without including Bosses, omitting doubles e.g with Fallan/Carver/Dark One only fallen is included in the count). I don't know if the 100 monsters they're talking about incorporating are all original but if so then :xD:

I'd be very pleased if Diablo III launches with MORE monsters than Diablo II + Lord of Destruction combined. :D

So ultimately the general consensus is that this is probably going to be a technical beta test as opposed to a design beta test.

And to answer a question earlier about major mechanic changes in the beta phase, no, that does not happen. Beta means the game is complete (in theory). This phase exists to find unfound problems of any sort. Nothing between beta and release will change something that impacts the game play or mechanics (ie; how the game is played). Everything is just a tweak.

Here is a quick, generalized visual mockup of the relation of beta to release:

Also, it is likely that once the beta begins, we'll be playing on an older version than what Blizzard has internally. We may still be playing, for example, a version that has an incomplete user interface via either unfinished design or literal art content missing.

...for quite a while and loved it. I seemed to very much enjoy tumbling around with the dodge action and used the fang repeater crossbow as my primary weapon.

Hmmm... I like to tumble around and shoot crossbows. Sound familiar O_O

I would be surprised if there was any ammo in Diablo III. It was simply a nuisance in Diablo II. It wasn't interesting, it never changed (no higher quality ammo), and it was ridiculously easy to get which just made it feel like a hassle that you had to manage it at all.

Hunters in WoW had their ammo removed (finally). That should tell you Blizzard's stance towards ammo.

I do not believe the Demon Hunter should have any type of minions. Though, because the class is based on a mix of the Assassin and Amazon, both of which had a single, minor summon, the idea is plausible.

Most likely a copy of herself, as her predecessors did. Summoning a demon minion is ironic.

Excellent news! It really does point out how in Diablo II, just about everything was just standing around and simply fell over when it died.

This feature will most certainly not be in Diablo III.

posted a message on Battle net2.0 playing with friends in the same room
In short, having LAN allows the possibility of emulating battle.net servers for Diablo III. So, yes, it is a piracy issue. Blizzard probably weighed this against the estimated number of players who would want to play across LAN but also have no internet connection (meaning they cannot play over battle.net). Because the latter is unheard of, Blizzard took their pre-emptive shot at emulation from the get go.

posted a message on Summon Scaling
    A few things...

-I personally consider only permanent pets to be a "summon". Ie; a minion that has no timed duration, or, in the case Diablo III has anything like the necromancer revives from Diablo II, a minion that can continually remain up given user input and lasts longer than a few seconds.

-Is the Zombie skill trait going to boost summons effectiveness? Or does it only effect the Zombie "nukes" like zombie wall, etc?

-As far as pure summoner viability, it all depends on if Blizzard believes sitting back and letting your pets do all the work proves for a "fun" game play experience. Now, I can say for me that I would enjoy it because I love playing as a summoner in every RPG I can, but for the general population I would have to say no, Blizzard would not like that. In Diablo II, pure summoner didn't really "work" because your minions didn't do enough damage in hell, but the synergy playstyle with Corpse Explosion (which required player input) made it... work, in a sense.

If I got into the beta, I would still do what I originally intended to do; Test the game thoroughly.

I couldn't watch the whole thing because the transition and image effect never changes (extreme headache). Try panning across, zooming out, or doing nothing. And use different transitions like fade, or just snap change. Also, the pictures changed too fast that I couldn't take in the details. Remember, this is a game that's not out yet so I can't just glance at a screenshot and acknowledge know whats going on in under 3 seconds.

It was good though, I liked the sound and the images were very high quality.

What software do people use to record Diablo III footage? What will the staff be planning on using for the beta? And if you say FRAPS, how do you have enough hard drive space to record for a practical amount of time?

    This thread is depressing :(
I hadn't viewed the beta like this up until this point. But hey, the good news is if they don't need the public that much for beta then the beta won't last very long, right :D
