Followers were revealed on May 12/13th(unofficial/official).

Runestones were revealed on May 25th.

seems to be roughly 2 week intervals, so I'd expect another reveal next week sometime, maybe sooner if we're lucky.

If we keep up on a reveal every 2 weeks, that means including next week we might have a total of 4 systems by the end of july. I'd actually reduce that to 3, and the last "reveal" will actually be the release date of the beta to start in early August.

Not really based on anything, just a gut feeling.

I'd be very suprised if there isnt an inspect feature, and a web armory to go with it. I really dont understand all the rage over people seeing what you have, some of you guys are acting like they are going to steal your gear just by seeing it, or somehow make you look bad by using your build and out performing you or something. Why all the hate for people seeing how you spent your skill/trait points and gear choices?

Might be hard to do the quest in hell when their killed instantly.

That's hard to say, since we dont know what the quest(s) will even be at this point. It may or may not even involve them having to fight, it could be a rescue quest similar to the rescuing of deckard cain in diablo 2.

I do believe however that single player and multiplayer characters will be one and the same, so cheating will likely be a breach of the ToS. Yes i know nothing has been announced but i'd be suprised if they seperate them like they did in D2.

    No.
Theres no way they will let offline characters play online. 0% chance.

I guess i wasn't too clear. What i meant was that singleplayer may end up not being offline at all, but rather an online game that just has no other users playing with you. Do we know for sure about an offline mode yet?

If single player is like d2 in that its 100% separate from b.net, then by all means cheat to your hearts content.
Biggest problem with that is then people tend to bring those cheats into online play because it becomes the only way they can "play" the game. If they didn't like how it was meant to be played in SP and knowing that's how it'll be online is to much of a temptation not to change the way the game is for their own gratification.
I completely agree with you, however at least with b.net play, Blizzard has warden around to help detect / prevent cheating, as well as the ability to drop the ban hammer and/or delete accounts. That being said, i'm against cheating because i think it ruins the fun of the game. I also know that cheaters will be around as they are in every popular game. And if gold is actually valuable, you can bet your bacon that the wow gold farmers will become wow/d3 gold farmers. If there is money to be made from cheating, the cheaters WILL come. Sad but true.

I think it largely depends on what single player ends up being. If the only "single" player aspect of the game is taking your char into a game by yourself but still through b.net, i'm 100% against it as this will absolutely ruin the economy of the game. If single player is like d2 in that its 100% separate from b.net, then by all means cheat to your hearts content.

I do believe however that single player and multiplayer characters will be one and the same, so cheating will likely be a breach of the ToS. Yes i know nothing has been announced but i'd be suprised if they seperate them like they did in D2.

Yeah, I imagine coop play is going to be different than any other game because of this mechanic. Good or bad? I don't know. But I imagine Blizzard knows what they're doing. Beta will give us a better idea of what it feels like.
not to mention that if beta shows this mechanic to be broken, it will be changed. Thats what beta is for after all, testing, and fixing stuff. :)

    And... ACTION!

    Official Blizzard Quote:

Well, followers are essentially a flavor bonus to those playing through normal the first time by themselves. It provides some story elements, but more importantly it gets the idea in their head of playing with another person. You come across each of them pretty quickly in Act 1, and then they help you throughout the rest of the game if you'd like. They aren't required to beat the game on Normal, even if you're playing by yourself. Feel free to leave them behind if you like. But they are pretty awesome.

They're also tuned so that they become very weak starting in Nightmare, and then are completely unusable in Hell. Even if you're playing alone, you will probably not be using Followers past Normal - - you can try but they're going to just be one-shot back to back. They're there as a bit of flavor, to help get people into the mindset of co-op if they're a bit reluctant, and... that's about it. They won't be usable at end-game, and they'll never replace the abilities and power that another player can bring.

It provides some story elements. That's right. The companion doesn't add any more story than is already provided. Instead, the character adds color to the situation.

    Official Blizzard Quote:

Followers will not stay alive easily past Normal, and if they're not alive you aren't going to be getting their bonuses. I'm sure people will try to game this, and ideally they will fail. If not we will ensure followers are not part of the end-game MF equation. They are not intended to be, and we will take whatever steps are necessary to ensure they cannot be.

They're also tuned so that they become very weak starting in Nightmare, and then are completely unusable in Hell.

They are not intended to be, and we will take whatever steps are necessary to ensure they cannot be. In other words, this is JUST A FLAVOR MECHANIC FOR NORMAL DIFFICULTY.

making them only viable for normal, not very much so in nighmare and useless in hell, it seems like a lot of wasted development time. I understand that they probably had to do this for balance issues, or else end game would end up making them mandatory balance wise, but its disappointing none the less.

    oops, fixed my post.

posted a message on Diablo 3 Followers Mechanics
    Quote from Nektu

First and foremost, it is important to note that the Followers system will only be available to those playing in a game by themselves. If another player joins the game, the Follower will head back to your caravan. However, if you find yourself along again in this fight, the Follower will come right back to aid you. This was done to help players who want to play by themselves but decrease the clutter if multiple people are in one game. Along with this, despite having all three Followers at your disposal, you may only use the services of one at a time. But do not worry, all three will gain experience regardless if being used or not. This will allow you to use them when you want to and not because you have to in order to level them up. You can also switch them out whenever you want to aid you best in different scenarios. If a follower "dies" you will not have to go back to town resurrect them. This is how it was originally planned but Blizzard felt like it took too much time away from fighting and caused players to not even use them. Instead, the characters will be knocked out temporarily. After about 15-20 seconds, they will regain consciousness and rejoin the fight. If this is too much time for you, you can channel on them and help revive them sooner. To help keep them fighting longer, they will also gain the effect from any health globe you pick up.

Some pluses to counter the minus'. But is it really enough to peak the interest of players to even use them? Maybe to see how their game mechanics work and if they like them, but IMO, why bother? Then again, I may change my mind when I'm actually playing the game.
For me the biggest drawback in D2 was that if a follower dies, every time you need to resurrect them. While they are dead their level is stuck and they slowly fall behind you no matter what you do. Keeping them alive was always a hassle. Having permanent followers that level up automatically and having the game not balanced around them being required sounds great. Having a follower that offers some CC and extra gold find or magic find? yes please!

Removal of the penalty for not keeping them 100% up to date makes them truly optional, and available to try out at any point in the game, drop them, or even just use them for a few specific zones/bosses. I love it.

posted a message on When Will Beta Begin?
I fully expect the beta to come later rather then sooner. I also expect the game to come later rather then sooner(aka, 2012).

I'm ok with this. Blizzard releases polished, fun games. If they say it needs another month or two, I can accept that because i know what we end up getting, whenever that may be, will be awesome.

    Quote from Junotekh

Well yes, of course, but when you join another multiplayer game, and the artisans have been shown to have graphical upgrades as well as their good and services, what will be chosen?

posted a message on Question about leveling artisans
How will leveling artisans work for multiplayer? Will the artisan's level be that of the game's creator? will each player see their own artisan at its specific level? What happens when I join a game as a relatively new player with artisans that are only leveled the first couple levels and someone else has them maxed out? Has any official information about this been released and if not, what do you all speculate about how it will work?

posted a message on How will set items work?
Perhaps one way to approach set items would be to make them an extension of regular magic/rare items. In D2, magic items were usually in the form of <item name><suffix>, something like Helm of the Boar. What if they extended this to another level and occationally you might find something like <prefix><item name><suffix> resulting in something like Rampaging Helm of the Boar. "Rampaging" would be the set, this would control your set bonuses. The set bonuses would scale with level, so a Rampaging set, is always a rampaging set and always appropriate for your current level. The base item and magic suffix would not scale, but rather be regular stats based on what item you have. So a Rampaging Plate Helm of the beast, would look different, and have different stats then something like a Rampaging Skull Cap of Elements. One would be a clear upgrade, be still desirable to you, and still would give you access to the set bonus if you had the full set, or partial set. Since the set bonus itself scaled with level, you could aim to gear with Rampaging gear all the way to level cap, without one piece ever being overpowered. This would also put some sort of value into the set type you decide to go after.
