Aug 22, 2012Uldyssian posted a message on A Message From JayBecause he's the developer this community deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So, we'll find small issues and act personally offended by them, because he can take it. Because he's not our hero. He's a silent guardian. A watchful protector. A Dark Knight.Posted in: News

Aug 22, 2012Uldyssian posted a message on A Message From JayWell that's that. Good, out of the way. Love the talk about improving the game. They know, now they are actually being forthcoming in a way that isn't cryptic or distracting from the questions the community raises. I don't need to know every nuanced detail of their ongoing plans or dev meetings. Just stuff like this once in a while goes miles to keeping me interested in the game. 1.0.4 was a great step. I have found two legendaries already and with all the other tweaks and changes I am suddenly hooked in farming. Plus I can actually run through act 2 and some of 3 now. It feels like a natural difficulty hike while not being a brick wall. Paragon system is awesome. Love it. I cannot wait to see where this game is once the first expansion drops. It should be the game we waited all those years for.Posted in: News

Aug 21, 2012Uldyssian posted a message on Patch 1.0.4 Interview with Jay Wilson and Andrew ChambersPosted in: NewsQuote from GreenWins
I'm tired of them dictating what is "fun" and what isn't "fun."
If I see another interview where a developers use the word "fun," I'm going to explode.
That's how I feel. I mean the entire time they were building up to release they spent more time explaining to us that we actually didn't enjoy the aspects of the old games that we thought we did, rather than just explain why something new is also ok. If their defense for systems is "Well you don't know what fun is" then they are sorely out of place. -

I have completely given up hope that they will ever address assets loading in new games causing massive stuttering at the start. Drives me nuts but I've grown accustomed to a stuttering first minute or so of gameplay each day I play. After every effect, sound, creature and such that I encounter has already occurred it runs smooth. -
Aug 18, 2012Uldyssian posted a message on Unofficial Patch 1.0.4 Changes - Class changes, New Items, Affixes and More!!I figure with this patch, 1.1 and future patches we will start to have a game that it should have been at release, gameplay wise. Hopefully they will rethink their approach to story and story delivery in the expansions. Less linear, more open world feel.Posted in: News

Aug 6, 2012Uldyssian posted a message on Character Profiles Now AvailableIt's neat but at this point it isn't going to get me excited like it would have if it was ready at launch. I've never seen Blizzard be so inconsistent on a game as they have been with Diablo 3. Which really sucks because Diablo was my absolute favorite game series/game world.Posted in: News

Aug 1, 2012Uldyssian posted a message on Character Profiles Possibly Coming Soon, Critical Mass Wizard Build, South Korea Gets a Server Upgrade, "Evil's Truck", PollYeah, while I am not against a char profile, given the state of the game and how uninspired it feels I don't have the inclination to spend lots of time pouring over my profile or others like I used to on WoW. This game just doesn't have staying power the way D2 did. A game coming out over a decade later should have raised the bar in many ways. I suppose the degree of success for D3 could be argued but the reality speaks to a large group of fans (skeptics and fanboys alike) being very disillusioned trying to make sense of exactly how a game like D3, with so much to pull from in D2 and years of dev time, could feel so empty. It makes my stomach turn thinking about it actually :/Posted in: News

Haha, right? I was pretty good this time. However... I also got back into Magic the Gathering after 15+ years of not playing it. So yeah, my gaming hobbies got me despite that. :/ - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

Honestly, I would rather have the games unveiled prior to Blizzcon than at Blizzcon. Especially as an attendee. I went to Blizzcon 2008 and I have to say I was quite pleased being in the grp of the first folks outside Blizzard's offices to play Diablo 3. The audience at the WWI that year got to enjoy the thrill of the reveal, but I was much happier getting to play test the game and being shown a new class.

I think all the cynicism that exists on gaming forums stems from people not expanding their list of hobbies and interest far enough to sustain a healthy level of realism about how the world works.
Also, the action figures are for kids, but the video game isn't? Come on now...

Edit: Hopefully I will be wrong and we will be getting expansion info

It's been over a year since this blue post http://us.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/5149178443?page=10#198
Are there other ways to clear this issue up?

That being said, the game will need something to keep it going for years. I'm guess expansion content will def help a lot, along with design tweaks that encourage longevity.
Good discussion Gotta have something to talk about until we get new info

Without seeming snide or nit-picky I wonder why a game that could greatly benefit from mods (like diversity of content and extending longevity like Synergies in Torchlight 2) would they choose to create such a sterile, enclosed environment for D3? I know they want to sell expansions... but eventually they plan to end dev time to this game.
I'm not a modder, so it;s just a question derived from curiosity.
Thoughts?

A big issue for me is it having a cooldown. It isn't like you're using it to gain tons of fury and it's basically a single target (barring the pierce and three prong runes which don't add that much aoe anyways) so it's not anywhere near a good means to do damage or gain fury.
Perhaps the rune could be a fourth fury generator where it has no cooldown and gains 3-8 fury on hit.
Ground Stomp is fun but I would rather use Leap with stun for the mobility. Perhaps give it a rune that switches it from fury generator to spender. Costing about 25 fury and have it do damage in addition to the stun. It would be a much more enjoyable skill if it were spamable at the cost of resources rather than using it as an infrequent stun/fury generator.
