I'm not writing this for answers however I'm all ways open to people's thoughts and criticism. Today is my birthday. Whatever importance that yields I'm still working on figuring out. In any sense I had chosen not to login to my facebook so not to see all the "happy birthdays" I didn't get and make myself even more miserable. However tonight when I woke up and made ready to head into work for the night shift, my fiance had told me that there was odd posts and messages coming from my facebook account. I tried to log in and see what was going on but couldn't. My log in information had been changed. Realizing right away that the account was probably hacked I tried to get into my email and failed to log in there as well. Seems that both my email and facebook was hacked and log in information was changed so that I could not get in. I eventualy gained access back by resetting my email first. The hacker had sent emails from my account to people asking for money through wire transfers because I was in trouble and lost in the UK. He left those emails in my sent box. Because I had access to my email again I was able to gain access to my facebook again. When I logged into my facebook there too were messages to friends and family asking for money and saying I was in trouble. The hacker even had a full out conversation with a friend of mine pleading for money. I changed my passwords for both accounts however I feel though that won't even matter at this point. My bank account seems ok I guess. Fortunatly for me 2 years back durring the recession, the company I was working for to provide for my family closed down and sent me out on the streets. My family and I lost everything we had from our family pet all the way up to our home. My credit from that is ruined and we have no money. I did find work out of state and we moved close to the job and rent a small place for now to try and rebuild. So as I said fortunately, if the hacker or hackers were looking for money they had come to the wrong guy. Unless they were in need of a pair of miss matched socks one with a hole in the toe then they are out of luck. .. am I forever safe though? What information can they get from me? What would they be looking for? Anyone have experience with this?

Few things, depending if they accessed anything actually significant. If they just have a name an address, not too much to worry about. I would call my bank just to be cautious and have them monitor the account. Also obtain copies of your credit report, periodically for the next year or so. That's being overly cautious, I doubt you have any social, or credit card info on either of those sites?

But I doubt the expansion pack players will be able to play with the regular players, just like in D2 so you can't consider it obsolete if the best items in the expansion can't be obtained in the regular game. That's like saying your items will be obsolete in D2 expansion if you don't get a hero editor and go nuts on your items in open battle net.

Blizzard plans to make the economy of D3 much more stable, which is why they're getting rid of the ladder system altogether.

I'm not worried about expansions... Those are fine, I'm sure I'd buy them instantly. I also was pretty sure runewords were gone, but you never know, maybe they would have put certain unique only on ladder, and what not. All I know is I hate ladder resets, it really messed up some of my item hoarding lol, I had all but one runeword for a few different runewords and was waiting for a drop.. that I got after the reset!!! I still have almost no runewords... . Like I said.. love the game, just dont have as much time as I would like. I love the way they are taking the game so far, but we'll see once I start playing :)

Does anyone know if they will have an aspects like the ladder resets where: !!! you can no longer make certain runewords or combine runes above certain lvls.!! Now I love to play, but honestly can't play that often, but that doesn't mean I dont want to take FOREVER to get godly items... If after six months or a year, there is a reset and I cant make certain weapons without a new character, I may get annoyed!

    Any post on this anyone?

Detecting flood bots in D2 is hard because flooding is done by non-bots as well, and they can't exactly ban those too. But there is actually flood prevention to stop people from joining too many games in a set amount of time (I have recieved a bunch of temporary bans from it when I am muling (which sucks (I lost my items xD))), but that is avoided by switching between multiple CD-keys before it happens, and D2 is too old to detect that kind of behavior, especially if the IP is switched too. They would have to recode the way connections are established, and I just don't see the legacy team doing that. But all of that gets quite irrelevant when we introduce... the report button!

And you have probably not done two identical runs out of your last hundred, or say in your last million runs. A human is not physically capable of doing that. Try recording yourself tapping two locations pretty far away from eachother on a table with a pencil, say, 50 times each. If you can tap the EXACT same location 4 times in a row I will declare you superhuman and worthy of a gazillion cookies. Now that is only the variable of repeating the action, you also have to take into account reactions, speed, delay, etc that is also impossible for a human to repeat. A bot would do the same thing at least 40% of the time (some are better than others), a human... maybe 1-2% with some luck.

I have read about a system that could detect Quake (don't remember which one) bots with over 98% accuracy, and it never caught anyone that isn't a bot. They discovered that the best bot had a 8% chance of being detected (at best, it was usually around 24%) each time it played a game, which means that even the best bots gets caught eventually. And even during the 92% when the bot wasn't detected, its actions were several hundred percents more predictable and/or bot-like than a human. It was based on detecting behavior, much like humans can tell when someone isn't a human.

Reports don't result in a direct ban, there are support staff (and robots for obvious ones) that checks your previous actions and determines if you are a bot. It is also probable that a single spam report won't do anything, but 3 reports would. It is not an abusable system, reporting have existed for over a decade and I'm sure they know how to do it right by now.

Ah you make more sense now, well either way. I pray diablo 3 (and expect)doesn't have the same problem with spam and bots, actually bots are one thing, I CAN DEAL with that, SOMETIMES even fun to follow on runs, but SPAMMING, I'm going to find the person on the other end and beat them with a stupid stick!

Preventing flood bots will be easy, it is a very unusual behavior that is easily detected. Reporting them is also easy. But the most important thing is that reporting (banning) will have much more of an impact.

Bots that play the game for people is harder to detect, but it is possible as long as the bot plays better than a human or very differently (such as repeating the same pattern for hours). All bot games will probably be password protected since people won't risk a ban. A ban would affect the CD-key, and if you continue to use the bot it might get blocked. That means losing everything your bot earned you, + the game. A lighter penalty would be an account wipe, which also is quite painful.

Changing the outline have been discussed before and is a good suggestion imo. Personally I only notice the outline as something annoying in the screenshots, not in the videos.

If it is so easy, why hasn't it been done in diablo 2. I think maybe one of those "please type what you see" boxes might stop a LOT of the bots because there has to be a person behind the bot to be able to get past it. Except for, MAKE IT EASIER to read, some are impossible. I know I wouldn't mind typing in ONE quick word or something to verify I'm a breathing person. Something, anything, or just a better system where bots are identified autonomously. People don't want to get banned just because they did the same action multiple times. I know I've done a dozen or two IDENTICAL runs trying to get keys, essense, or drops.

on the bot concern, i'd guess they'll do the same thing as they do in WoW: reports for spam will ban the cd-key and there goes the account. probably they'd go with the ip aswell. in WoW it's far better than it used to be in Diablo II or WoW launch so i think they're learning how to solve it.

the red outline i noticed aswell on some screenshots, but i think it's only around the enemies the mouse is aiming to make it easier to target them. i don't think it's annoying but i haven't played the game either so far, perhaps some Blizzcon attendees might help more with that.

I just wanna make sure no accidental bans get placed because someone just wanted to report you!! Ehh... Hopefully someone monitors the player before the ban is activated. As for the outline, I don't think I would care. I do believe it's just over the enemy the mouse is over, but hey being able to turn things on and off, always makes people happy!

I might have missed a post but please bare with me. I've been playing diablo 2 a lot recently and basically made a mental list of the problems plaguing the game. Everything I see as a flaw has been fixed essentially, it sounds like between the increase inventory and stash we wont have all the problems of having mules, and please can someone confirm if they made a decision on trading between characters, that would be amazing. Now the largest flaw, that I haven't seen address but that doesn't mean it hasn't been (I did look), I HATE BOTS. If I see one more bot enter a game and FLOOD the screen with text, I'm going to give up on these games. Doe anyone know the plans to stop mass botting, at least alleviate the problem. ESPECIALLY if the game is going to only have four character max (which sounds kinda of lame not to be able to have at least one of each type of character possible). Image this, a game gets hosted by a bot, so you enter the game. It's you and the bot, OH and another bot enters the game, (as they like to enter the game when it starts) now its you and two bots, if you get lucky one more real person enters the game. It's now you and another person, with the other two being BOTS!!!!

Oh and the other thing I wanted to address, and a blue post would make my day, on the issue of the red outline, yes in the screen shots it doesn't look great, but I haven't played the game, and if everyone (that's played it) says they hardly noticed or don't mind the outline during game play. I think it might be worth trying to see if it can be an option to turn off. If we would change the option in the settings it might make everyone happy. People who Hate them regardless if it hurts game play or help it, would be pleased.
