I understood ya fine. Was just saying sorry to anyone here that may LOVE the angsty-boys, and may get all offended. Haha.

    Also, interesting website. :)
Ah, I getcha. The joys of internet communication....

    And thank you! ^_^

I'm sorry but I hate angsty. Euhg.
I think you misunderstood me. I was saying it's good that he's not angsty. Whether or not I mind it depends on the context and execution, but a non-angsty pretty boy (again, somewhat rare in the JRPGs I usually play) is a welcome change of pace. :)

Eh, I'm a girl, so I'm accustomed to using game characters of the opposite gender. I prefer it, honestly, especially if the male character is nice to look at. :P

Also, as a Squaresoft fan, I have to say the male wizard kinda seems like "home" to me. The main difference is that while he's pretty, he's not angsty -- which I can't say is a bad thing.

It was marketed as being a mix between Diablo and The Secret of Monkey Island. The latter is quite old, but I guess you probably know what it's about. But tell me, what are your usual tastes?
Let's see. I haven't given it that much thought, so maybe examples will help.

My favorite game series is Metal Gear Solid, though I haven't played the fourth one yet for lack of a PS3. *sniffle* The games are lots of fun, but more than that, I love the characters and stories. Especially #3, which was has one of the most involving game plots I've ever seen.

I also enjoy Devil May Cry games, especially the third one. They're fun (the second one didn't happen, BTW), and the third one has a surprisingly good story and character development for the kind of game it is, which is basically "Badass demon hunter runs around and kills things in a flashy manner." I started playing them in first place for a pretty shallow reason: Dante is hot. :P Seems like a fair number of female players got into DMC that way....

And as far as RGPs go, basically, "Stuff made by Squaresoft." I like Final Fantasy 4, 6, 7, 9 and 10, and I absolutely love two of their obscurer titles: Xenogears and Vagrant Story. Both have sophisticated plots with lots of religious themes.

So, I guess the easiest ways to get me involved in a game are to give it an intriguing story/concept or stick a pretty boy on the cover. :P (What? I'm honest!) Oh, and gratuitous violence as long as it's not a story set in the real world as we know it. That generally helps.

Diablo 3 is the next Duke Nukem i tells ya.
Actually, Duke Nukem Forever is slated to come out next year:

    No, really. I'm serious.

Meanwhile, D3 is still officially up for release sometime between "whenever" and "Doomsday." Make of that what you will.

Welcome! :D Are you excited about the Blizzcon? :D
Thanks, and yes. Yes, I am. :) I'm not holding my breath on this, but I REALLY hope all this spiffy new info they've promised includes a release date. I find it a little unsettling that the release details for freaking Duke Nukem Forever are now more settled than for this game. At the very least, I hope they'll reveal a little more about the plot.

    Also: Yay, cookies! ^_^

But then what's the difference between losing some gold and experience based on your level and the difficulty of the map you're on compared to losing the exp and gold you acquired getting to that point from the last checkpoint? And no saving please... that's a horrible idea for online play.
I guess my perspective is different because I'm not an online player. I'm just thinking in terms of simplicity here; no need for penalties you need a math degree to figure out when "Reset to checkpoint and/or last save" will do, particularly in single player mode.

Say you worked your way up to a chest, and it had the greatest weapon ever. You kill some stuff, oops big monster killed me. Shit I didn't save or I didn't get to the checkpoint yet... Now I'm dead and lost the weapon I got earlier.
Okay, then. How about just losing stuff you definitely CAN replace -- i.e. the experience and money you've gained in the interim, and anything that's a guaranteed find or drop? Of course, the prospect of losing more substantial things (like the unique weapon you mentioned) could just give you more incentive to save often, not to mention some serious motivation not get yourself killed in the first place. ;)

In Normal mode, at least, why not just handle it like console games usually do? Basically, you lose everything you gained since your last save. Or, perhaps in this case, whatever you gained between your last checkpoint and where you died is wiped out. Frustrating, but not unfair as long as the checkpoints are distributed well.

Well, goodness, thanks for all the additional welcomes. :D

    @Siaynoq - I hope you enjoy them!

@Hungryhippo7 - My icon is Shinobu from No More Heroes. :) The game started off on the Wii, but it's been ported to the PS3 and 360, too. It's insanely fun and funnily insane.

Hey there! You seem cheerful, cheerful is good. :D
Sometimes, you just have to keep your sense of humor. The alternative seems so... dull.

Playing RPGs for the story is logical because all the main mechanics and quests revolve around the story. Diablo is more action-packed than games like Baldur's Gate, but it still has an awesome story.
I've never actually played Baldur's Gate. ^^; Like I said, PC games aren't generally my thing; the mechanics and aesthetics of them don't do much for me. Diablo games, though.... There's just something about them. I really love that world, and all the gratuitous violence and such just makes them even better.

Have you tried Deathspank? I've heard it's pretty fun.
Never heard of it, so I had to look it up. Doesn't look like it would suit my usual tastes....

there are an awful lot of people on these forums who play SP only...
Yayz! So, I'm NOT alone! :D (And thanks, everyone, for the welcome, BTW.)

Tyrael is indeed fascinating. Who would have thought he was the baker in Tristram all along.
    He played his part well.
Yep, I thought for sure that he'd be the Candlestick Maker since the Butcher role was already taken. :P

The only things that could kill it for me are A)it's somehow nigh-unplayable as a single player game, B)the plot stinks (especially that) or C)they tone down the violence, which obviously won't happen. Other than that, I'm not very choosy. :)

Just thought I'd say the obligatory "Hello," so... hello. ^_^ I'm basically a console gamer who stumbled on Diablo II by accident X number of years ago, got intrigued by the story, and ended up becoming a fan of the series. (Especially Tyrael. He fascinates me, and I really want to know what's become of him.) I'm also one of, like, five people on earth who has never played D2 online (yes, really). I've always played RPGs mainly for the story, and anything else seems... odd.

Any-who, nice to meet you all. :)
