    Quote from Dolaiim

Disclaimer: I neither endorse nor deny the release date estimate of April 5th, 2012. However, if the game is actually released on April 5th, get ready for the biggest shit-storm of I-told-you-so's in the history of human language.

    Dolaiim - LOL!

I used that phrase earlier today when talking to my Boss about an issue at our studio: "When your idea doesn't work - get ready for the biggest shit storm of 'I-told-you-so' in the history of human language!"

She told me to take the rest of the day off and pull my head out of my ass.

posted a message on Does the Blacksmith love his wife?
So just throwing this out there....

"Hey I gotta kill my wife because she's turning into a big baddy - will you help me."

    "Sure."

"Oh Hagrid (can't remember his name) - help me Hagrid, I ate too much Taco Bell!!"

    (One shot - gruesome death)

"Thanks, I couldn't have done that with out you. Now go get me some stuff so I can make cool toys. Kthnxbye."

Not to be the dramatist of the forum - but... being the dramatist, wouldn't you think that he would have some dialogue that's in the realm of:

"Go avenge my wife's death and kick Leoric's ass!"

Or when whatever character responds and says to him:
    "this has to be done."
    Hagrid would respond with
"f*ck you dude, these people are my FRIENDS."

There doesn't seem to be a lot of that courage building dialogue of help us beat back the hordes of evil - no sense of the emotion of what's happening in New Tristram. Seriously there needs to be a little more "please help us Obi-Wizard, you are our only hope!"

edit:typo and formatting for ease of reading yourself to laughter.

posted a message on Diablo 3 Beta Streams Are Frustrating
    Quote from Dolaiim

If I were in the beta, I would shut up during combat, letting people hear the sound design and watch closely without having to hear me ramble. Then, after each skirmish, I'd go around looting and exploring. During that down time is when I would provide commentary, either about what just happened, or more generally.

That's just me though. There's no right or wrong way. In taste, there is no argument.

THANK YOU! I can't stand listening to "oh that was gross" or "oh, I'm super-hawt because I got that 15 kill bonus" or "no Mom, I don't want to go to Chucky Cheese's tonight - gawd!"

Streamers - turn off your vent. No one wants to hear your WoW guildmates talk about raiding.

Blizz - give Dolaiim a Beta key pls.

posted a message on item Binding
    Quote from OmniNom

It's important to remember that we have ABSOLUTELY ZERO INDICATION that this is the case.

On a related note, this is probably one of the only points I'm not sure I agree with about D3 itemization. While only a small number of items are pulled out of the economy by making them BOE (BOP I think is out of the question), it's removing the items that someone thought were good enough to equip.

95% of the items picked up are immediately sold (or nowadays, destroyed for mats). No one cares about removing them, because they're already essentially gone.

But without BOE, the good items that people actually want will tend to accumulate in the economy, driving their price down and eventually forcing a reset or some other change (I believe they want to release new stronger items every few months with D3). This is a very crude way to control an easily solvable economic disparity.

With BOE, equipping at item makes it work only for you (or possibly your account), and makes that item stay valuable. If you want to use it, you can't resell it, and the number of those items on the market remains manageable.

I don't know about you guys, but I would much prefer the more stable, self-sustaining economy. If I can't resell an item I've used (at least a high end item, the only ones this would be necessary for), it's a small price to pay for curing stagnation.

Of course, I don't pretend for a second Blizzard's decision one way or the other will affect my willingness to play the game ;) But this is probably the only decision they've made that has seemed questionable to me. I'm sure they have their reasons, but those quotes from Bashiok don't seem to be good ones.

I completely agree with this - and am probably on a short list of people who were unhappy to hear the news of no BOE. It forces you to make a hard decision about that lucky piece of great loot you just found. If you can wear it for awhile and then go "oh well, that was fun - off to the AH I go with this old piece I don't need anymore" than there is something lost there to me. If you work hard for your gear - you should have to make equally hard choices for what you plan to do with it. Being able to wear it for an hour or a year - and then get more benefits from it, like sellling - just degrades the coolness of the loot.

However - in a game like D3, we have the chance to find that epic piece of loot, over and over again. Where as in WoW - you most likely got that nice BOE from a raid; that after you attained it, there were several other people in line to get it the next time it dropped. So it might be a forgotten issue.

posted a message on I Spy With My Little Eye...
    Quote from CheehC

I made a thread about this a month or so back and it got a little heated...
    http://www.diablofan...__1#entry603643

From my perspective an armory or inspection feature is a bad idea! A possible toggle function solves some problems but not all.

These features may reduce replay ability. Rerolling characters and trying new builds out might be made redundant due to a more efficient way to find/create these best/well performing builds …

I am not a fan of these features

BUT I still can’t wait to play this game!

I still do not see how this can be damaging in ANY way to the game. There are going to be so many levels of customization to the gear alone, that it will be hard for people to carbon copy everything from another player. Then you factor in the customization of the skills themselves - essentially a reflection of your play style - and it would be very unusual for anyone to copy you completely.

I inspected some of the greatest players of my class in WoW many times. I checked out their builds on the Armory. I even duplicated a few things in gear and skill point allocation. I never duplicated anyone completely. Their play style was just too different from mine and they liked the ugly looking gear :)

There will be cookie cutter builds that function around a combo of skills and gear that are generally most effective in all situations. That's going to come about by information on the internet and forums like this one - not because you got inspected.

I do not understand why anyone would be upset to be "seen" at anytime. That is if you have nothing to hide. Keeping your gear a secret for the sake of secrets is silly in my opinion.

And the argument "well others won't let me group with them, because they will think I have crap gear and don't realize what I can do with it" doesn't work with me either. If you run into pretentious people like that, then most likely you don't want to group with them anyway. They are the asshats that get off on controlling a group of people and not playing the game.

I would rather have someone inspect my gear - than spend ten minutes talking about it to them. Because it doesn't just stop with "what chest piece are you using?" It gets into runes, dyes, stats on the gear, skills it effects, etc. Wouldn't it be easier to just say "inspect me and go to the D3 wiki."

posted a message on Diablo 3 Followers System Unveiled
    Quote from Kiserai

The customization itself seems like it would alleviate a lot of these criticisms: if you don't enjoy that your Follower is killing a lot or whatever, it seems like you can tweak them / not gear them so they're not even remotely powerful except perhaps as a way to increase Magic Find or something (e.g., the Scoundrel's skills look to possibly work this way).

I say let's see more info / get more actual gameplay with the Followers and see what we can / cannot do with them (or do without them) before throwing feces at the entire system. I think this is natural, whenever there's any reveal like this there's a lot of knee-jerking going on, it's hard to remember we don't know much about this yet. I'm as guilty of this as anyone, just saying. :)

Agreed. The Follower system is not going to break your D3 experience. Obviously what we know about this system thus far, gives you the chance to let your Follower take the lead, or sit in the back of your ride. I have a sneaking suspicion that most who hate the system, will come to appreciate it.

Lets wait to see what Blizz has to say about it tomorrow.

posted a message on They are aiming for a 2011 release
    Quote from Winged

Activision is a shit company, flat out.. To me they are the BP Oil of the gaming world, in it souly for the money.

I about fell out of my chair laughing at this one. I too agree, completely, with your opinion on this

    Quote from Winged

Okay.. Phew.. Anyway even with Activision in the scheme of things, I slightly remember reading that Blizzard still has full control over, well everything Blizzard related. So while stock holders now have a bit more pull on the money strings for Blizzard, I don't think they'll let it change their moto, or habits. After watching the anniversary video, I'm even more sure of this.

This all links to, I don't think Blizzard is effected by the, -This needs to get done, NOW- effect. Which is why I still say 2012 ;)

So here's the secret; I believe the game will come out in Q1 of 2012. For all my ranting about it still coming out this year, its my gut feeling that they will wait. I don't think it makes sense for them to wait - for all the reasons I've mentioned - but it's what I think will happen. I think Blizz is all about their autonomy from Activision and continuing their good brand and take on games. If they want to fine tune - they will, no matter how long it takes. I do believe they will be pressured to get it out there and that if its held over into 2012, there will be some intense discussions to that end with the Suits. My pipe dreams tell me November. My optimism tells me December. My gut tells me 2012.

    posted a message on Cows??
    Quote from Jackzor

I would like to see some kind of secret level though, but it would be nice if they made it something other than cows.

With the random pockets in the static world hosting a variety of things (quests, dungeons, etc) it would be cool if there was a universal portal, like the red portal to cows, that signified a special dungeon. Make it an ultra random thing, that has a low appearance rate and hosts some special mobs that have a high drop rate for some top gear. So if you are out farming and run across it, its like getting the Uber level jackpot - without the need to amass reagents to make it.

Knowing Blizz, it'll be fun of kittens or murlocs....

posted a message on Can't handle the anticpation for d3 so I
I did see a vid on youtube that shows what files to copy from the disc into your program folder for d2 and it runs without the disc. However I think as it has been said you should be able to play without the disc if you download the patch.

And that's just sick, twisted irony that I decide to go back to D2 and they are going to reset the ladder so I have to wait.....
