posted a message on Hardcore mode! Who's excited?!
I started playing D2 Hardcore after the D3 Beta got stale. I love the concept and the community, but it's just not for me. I've only lost a handful of sorcs, with some nice high level characters still going strong in Hell & Ubers, but there's just way too much "WTF WAS THAT, HOLY CRAP NOW I'M DEAD!" spike damage in D2. If you're careful and play smart you shouldn't die, but even then, there are nearly broken mechanics that will end your life in an instant regardless of how godly your gear is if the RNG gods are against you (vipers, soul killers, glooms, extra strong/fanatacism uniques). I have a feeling D3 will be very similar in that respect.

I can totally understand what a rush that can be for some folks, but I rather play a bit more casual, and not be punished so severely for going a bit reckless now and again. I'll play both, HC is great once the luster of softcore has worn off, but to jump right in- not for me.

Because you'll leave if the MF% doesn't suit you. They want you to play with people, not complain about them.

posted a message on New Tweet from Jay :( not good news.
    Quote from Nuvian

Since Jay hinted that the release date announcement is quite close, its quite logical they would do it at cebit or GDC for maximum media/PR exposure.

Exposure? Jay could tweet the release date in the middle of the night and every gaming blog/site in the universe would have it posted within an hour. D3 hardly needs a middle level gaming conference to blow the doors off the media.

I've still got all my chips in the pot that says D3 wont get released until 4-6 weeks after beta ends. With another known patch coming at an undisclosed time, I'm sticking with June at the earliest- the date I've assumed ever since D3 missed the end of 2011 drop date.

Bots. I fear the auction house becoming completely marginalized by bots and ruining the economy.

posted a message on Boarderlands 2 announced before Diablo 3
Game looks identical to the 1st one- which is one of the most overrated titles in recent memory.

Honestly, I'm more disappointed Torchlight 2 never managed to fill the waiting void before Diablo 3 than any other game coming out prior.

posted a message on People wanting to play beta
I played the hell out of the beta the first 4-5 days I had it, but it just made me more impatient. I ended up digging up my old D2 key and i've been trying to get through hardcore.

It's going to be a great game, and it's very satisfying demo, but it's such a tease.

posted a message on Message from Jay, Skill Runes and Choices, Changes, Login Issues, EU PayPal, Item Customization
Been beta testing since patch 8 or 9 (can't remember- back when you could swap skills immediately at any time).

I'm okay with the rune system. I was excited about the old rune system because having another item to collect and improve your character meant more immediate customization. Having 6 different runes types meant you had 6 different variations on each skill as soon as you found a level 1 rune. Now the different runes are staggered throughout the leveling process, and while that means you wont get that complete customization until the higher levels, it gives you a little upgrade to look forward to nearly every new level.

I would have loved to see the original system use some kind of additional UI where you found a rune it became imbued into your character and you'd never have to worry about picking up another ever again- an unlockable item, kind of like the quest items from diablo 2 (Atmas's book, Aldor's Potion, Malah's Scroll). That way you could have the variety sooner than later, but they'd increase in power the higher levels you find along the way and not have the inventory space issue.

I understand Blizzard probably bit off more than it could chew with the original system. At this point I just want to play the game. I know Blizz will continue to tweak the content and mechanics for many years to come. I'd rather they release a watered down rune system now and maybe redo it in a later patch a year down the line then continue to noodle month after month.

posted a message on New class in D3 expansion !
I always liked most of the classes in the original Sacred game. Had some nice twists on the standard archtypes. Someone mentioning a Vampire class brought that memory back for me.

posted a message on Will Blizzard make the first quarter release date?
    Quote from WishedHeHadBeta

theres absolutely nothing that says they have to or will announce it 8 weeks in advance. wow was announced like 19 days before release and many other activision games werent announced 8 weeks in advance either. with the amount of issues that D3 is going through its more likely it will be announced shortly before release because they wont know 100% that it will be ready until the very end of production

"We probably won't end beta until shortly before release, and traditionally we've tried to announce release dates about two months before release." -Bashiok.

    http://forums.battle...073523&sid=3000

Wouldn't call that absolutely nothing, but you're right. They don't HAVE to, but they claimed that's their window. Nothing about the development thus far has led me to beleive I should suddenly expect a condensed timeline. I'm a glass half empty kind of guy.

posted a message on Will Blizzard make the first quarter release date?
Assuming they're using the 8 week window between announcement and release they've got 2 more days to hit this goal.

We don't even have a working AH in the beta right now.

I vote no. Anytime before June and I'll be pleasantly surprised. Wouldn't be surprised if it's Q3+.

I agree, just hope they're not completely marginalized without godly gear like they were in D2. I love melee classes but they tend to hit a wall hard in this franchise if you're not constantly upgrading a weapon.

I would say the AH is also a pretty big hurdle, unless Blizz intends to keep the interface borderline useless or they have a much more robust system in place internally that we haven't seen.

Last time I tried the AH in Beta the search function/filtering was remarkably limited in scope and the category fields returned 100's of items completely outside of the parameters.

Specifically, you could only search for single attributes which could not be filtered by level requirement or value. For example, if you wanted an item with poison damage, you'd get every single item on the AH with that stat, regardless of level requirement. Nor could you be specific, limiting the search to items that provided 20+ poison damage, because you felt anything below that value was useless.
