I agree. the way the acts were put, and the amount of time it took to complete acts made it feel mor realistic. I think it could feel the same even with the "walk between acts" idea. Whose to say that these static maps won't be as large as the ones from D2? I think an interesting way of doing it would be to slowly change the terrain as you get further through the Act. That way, it may still take you a day or two to get through, but you don't get a sense of complete isolation between parts of the land.

I like the sound of that. I imagine we'll get some very rare runes at some point that add somethne to all spells or make a passive effect like the slow time you mentioned.

Bashiok has mentioned that the town placement and map outlines will be static http://diablofans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21803&highlight=adventure+system, so it's entirely possible that we'll be traveling on foot from town to town (or Act to Act as the case may be). I think, since we have an image of Sanctuary on the official D3 site, we can assume that there will be more continuity in between acts and places of interest.

I think the rune system they've mentioned trumps this one.

That makes more sense. But, based on the gameplay vids, I don't see the monk being so geurilla. He may be fast, but he's also very physically strong. Plus, the use of staves by him in some screen shots adds to the power aspect.

But, I don't know. You may be right that he fills the faster class, fighting-wise.

I don't see how ninja would be a light warrior. I don't think they'd necessarily be a dark character, but certainly not light-based. The whole point of a ninja is to hide in shadows.

naa, the ninja is too lame a way to create the missing link in combat style. i reckon blizz will create a character closer to the diablo world style and create something more vague a description. like the assassin.. she could have easily been a ninja, but the name is too specific, making us expect things from her the same way some of us expect vampires to burn in the sun in movies.
i guess there are some flaws in my argument through blizz's previous examples, such as in the expectations of the monks abilities and specific style (such as no ranged magic projectiles) but i think as the last class, blizz will take the name of the class and its combat style to a higher standard of creativity.

I see your point, that "ninja" may be too clich?. To be honest, it's only one title that could be given for a character like this. If you're thinking more specific (like the past paladin or necromaner, who are blatently unilateral), you could go with Shogun or Samarai. If it's vague you expect, I think ninja is more than qualifeid, because there are historically many different types of ninja.

I agree that blizzard will be creative with the last class, which is exactly why I think it could be a ninja-type. It's something we've seen part of (in the assassin) in the diablo universe, which makes a reasonable argument that there is a population of people who dabble in the arts of shadow. Also, the ninja is a versitile character with many possible variations and titles.

I'm glad to hear that people seem to be complaining less, especially about the visuals. And I do understand that everyone plays for different reasons, and I apologize for imposing mine so blatently as the norm. Mainly my point is we should all let Blizzard do their thing, and trust that they can handle making us another Diablo that keeps us happy.

And thanks for all the welcoming! It's nice to feel accepted :)

Yes, I have seen the monk, and I realize he's a hand-to-hand fighter. That's not what I meant by martial (yay, I spelled it right!) arts. Based on the Monk's gameplay videos, which I've seen plenty of times, it looks like he uses hand blades and/or staves, with no hint of ranged weapon specialization or long blades.

And thanks Nekrodrac, that's exactly what I was thinking.

I've seen a few people joke about a ninja class, but I think it's possible.

I don't think I have to go into the specs of each other character, if you need them, they're on about every other thread in this part. But the thing that's fundamentally missing is a range-focused character. Regardless of the fact that most of the characters can hold their own in close or ranged combat, we don't have one that exceeds in long-rnage physical combat.

That being said, I think a ninja-type character is valid. Let's look at a breakdown:
-It can be range focused - bows (yes, ninjas use bows too), shorukens, throwing knives, etc.
-It can also be proficient in close combat with swords (katanas and the like)
-Magic skills can resemble the assassin's from Diablo II with shadow disciplines and marital arts
-Ninjas could also borrow from the druid's shape-shifting skills
-Fills the "Paladin Gap" with a sword user, the "Range Gap" with bow/throwing weapons (I realize the Barbarian can use swords, but that's a different case. Dual-Wielding swords or axes is not terribly close to one/two-handed sword usage.

I'm not trying to say blizzard has to borrow from Diablo II's skill sets, but if we're looking at any type of unique character that still pays homage to the past, a ninja is a nice addition. Plus, we might get another character with a teleport-type skill, which I think would be nice. It kinda gives balance against the Wizard.

posted a message on I'm just excited
I'm new around here, so please forgive me if I say something that's already been said, but I'm getting rather frustrated with all the negativity surrounding Diablo III. I, for one, am just ecstatic that it's coming.

One of the biggest complaints I've been seeing is the issue of color and brightness in the game. Since when has Diablo been about visuals? Diablo is about gameplay: fighting off hordes of monsters and trying to survive. Who cares if it's done in washed-out darker colors or brighter, more animated ones? I've been playing Diablo II for ages now, and never once did I stop and think, "I love how Diablo's main focus is on being dark and dreary." Yes, in some cases, it adds to the gameplay to have less visibility or darker colors, and I bet Blizzard will implement that at times, but I think what we've seen is just plain impressive.

Actually, I'm excited about almost everything I've seen so far. I love the auto-gold pickup, and the health orbs are a fresh take on keeping the action going. The skill runes sound like a lot of fun, and open the game up for multiple same-class replays. The new inventory screen looks promising. I never minded the tetris system, but I won't be devestated if it's scrapped for something else. The new, larger unique bosses are menacing and exciting. It's one thing to battle Diablo when he's relatively the same size as you, but imagine if he'd been three times your size. It'd feel more epic...more frightening.

Overall, I don't know why there are so many negative threads about the new game. It's just that: new. There's something to be said when a company decides to make a sequel that's not just a newer, almost remake of a game. From what we've been shown, which necessarily isn't much, it looks to me like Diablo III will be a fresh take on the old games. There are new graphics, new classes, and new quests, all while we still get to force our way through demons and monsters for the greater good.

Thank you, Blizzard, for making us a new Diablo game. I'm excited.
