I agree, Bashiok cannot be blamed for the news that he delivers, he just happens to be the spokesperson. But, to me, Bashiok's statements have come to represent Blizzards attitude as a whole when it comes to Diablo fans. I was reading through Bashiok's posts in the Blizz Tracker section

I can't imagine Bashiok meeting up with Leonidas. There wld have been serious trouble.
    THIS IS SPARTA!

.... I don't really see the puny Diablo matching up. What say?

Plz don't insult big D from D1 and D2. They were very well made according to me. However if blizz relied only on size to make an impression on us, it will be a bit disappointing.
I mean by that, that they need to create a mood. I feel D2 did it quite well though...
I remember first time in D2 in catacombs where i was supposed to kill Andy. I opened my quest log and read 'Kill Andariel'. I couldn't find her. I was in catacomb level 4...N i saw that big door..which i opened...to kill a few monsters. I was full of anticipation. It still did not prepare me for Andy(the first boss and her sheer size too) when she cried- die maggot and a single poison nova later, all(yes ALL) my skellies lied around me in crumpled heaps. N i was trying to open a TP coz my life was draining away so fast...
Duriel too was pretty nice. Stuck in a chamber with that guy who when he bashed u, there was only a quarter(if u lucky) life left.
Imagine D3..whre u won't have TPs... Imagine how tough Duriel would be...
As for what we know of D3, i though King Leoric got a nice intro as boss... It was cool.

did they talk about resist ? I think we mean elements as resistances !?

Curses is considered for a spell, though resistance for curse is possible.
But I don't know how it's can be done and I don't think it's appropriate.

Things are kinda getting confusing here. Ok i'll have another go. First of all,
luc1027- man, i owe u an apology for my trolling last time. Quite pathetic of a behaviour from me to tell u the truth. So sorry mate.:) My own english is hardly good enough- mainly i expressed my ideas wrongly in this thread.

    Anyway back on topic,
lets just 4get elements and resistances coz thats not what i meant.
See here, i talked of darkness as some form of power i associate with undead summmons and plant/flora as power associated with plant summons from druid.
So lets replace elements with 'themes'. Darkness and plant are themes used formerly. Both summons end up doing physical damage and poison creeper use a mixture of plant/poison theme.
Another skill is tornado from druid- using wind theme but doing physical damage.
So what new themes could possibly be introduced to make an original 5th char??:)
Ideas I proposed formerly are sonic waves and crystal as themes.
I hope u'll come up with new stuffs and mention a few skills too to illustrate ur thinking:)

I'm not allowed to, it wouldn't be professional ;)

Most fans are upset. I think we have good reason to be so, in all reality. We just need to make sure we don't become animals in the process.

    Yet animals we are... Nice(maybe not) warm-blooded mammals...Civilised ones(hopefully)...

Once again pessimism rules. Would like to point out that blizzard's impact on out world had been great and widespread. Why, even our common idioms and expressions in the english-speaking community has changed(maybe forever). Lets see:

A Bird In The Hand Is Worth Two In The Bush: A patch in the hand is worth two in blizzard
Add Fuel To The Fire: Add a D2 patch to the fire(meaning making something worse)
All Greek to me : All D2 patch to me(meaning incomprehensible)
Between A Rock And A Hard Place : Between a warcraft patch and another warcraft patch(meaning stuck between 2 bad options)
    Blue Moon : D2 LOD patch 1.13(meaning a(very or uber)rare event)
Out Of The Blue : Out of the blizzard (meaning something that suddenly and unexpectedly occurs)
    ;)

EDIT(PS)- there's also 'kick the bucket' now known as kick the Bashiok...but Seth might not be happy with this one:P

    Quote from "LinkX" »
Monk has shown no religious nature. And there are many Buhdist Monks. (Meaning they are not religious.) The Paladin has a "holy" feel, but isn't aligned with Heaven. And the Witch Doctor is not of the same religious virtue that the Witch Doctor of old was. Exorcist has no other meaning, it has only one meaning. And the meaning, as well as the word itself, is a Catholic, and thus religious, word. To bring that kind of idea into the world of Diablo would to make it something completely different then either of the previous two games.

The monk is religious- the religion in itself hailing the principle of asceticism.
The paladin has been associated with Christianism but also Muslim through history- another religious cue.
While for the exorcist I quite agree with you that the word itself is mostly associated with Christianism, though exorcism has been practised by many cultures.
Now for the funny part, the witchdoctor is known as a healer...wether u are ill from a disease or ill coz an evil spirit possessed u....so i daresay he can fulfill the exorcist job.
But there ain't gonna be much of a job in sanctuary...I mean if there were humans possessed, ok...but here there are demons... :P
Whatever BS I just spewed, if blizzard want to do an exorcist, they will just do it...though I have some doubts:)

Meaning that when you attack something you also commit damage to yourself, or simply because you are lacking defense you will take more damage (while making up for it in higher damage)?

    Second option.
The first one would be too painful...remember the chaos santuary and worldstone chambers for melee characters?:(
Higher damage is the winner in my book as it goes with the philosophy of fast-paced action they are trying to implement in D3. Either u die or they die(preferably):P
Plus remember that there are nice health orbs dropping from monsters, so the faster u kill them, the longer u can remain alive... The ability to tank comes in secondary if u can't kill fast enough...

I think the 2 most interesting ideas have been already discussed by the Afflictionx guy and Bashiok.
Personally though, between shielding and damage, I would rather go for damage as differentiation of 2handed weapons from 1handed.
That is make the damage on 2handed weapons even more awesome, so that u get to choose-
1.Kill the foe(s) quick but at the expense of some damage to urself(which u can compensate for by equipin high def armor or havin high HP)
2.Go the safe way where u can carry shield and last (hopefully)longer than ur foes in order to take them out.
If u give some % block on 2handed weapons, it might turn into an unfair advantage.
However the only 2handed weapons that might possess innate block might be staves and other 2 handed weapons u don't directly use for attacking. This will definitely be more interesting.:)

To italofoca- dude, no offense but u basically reiterated everything I said in the original post. U just used cold instead of ice...;)
Anyway to get the discussion back on track, I came to the conclusion that blizzard used fictional(non-classical) elements because they've used poison and lightning in D2 which do not form part of classical elements. Even cold is arguable... The list of classical elements according to different philosophies(Hindu, Greek Chinese, Tibetan...etc) -
Air, Fire, Earth, Water, Wood(Chinese), Metal(Chinese).

However fictional elements used in fantasy are much broader-
they invlove- light(holy), darkness, lightning, poison, ice, plants, soundwaves, crystal, space...and lots more(just use ur imagination:P)

I believed the element of darkness(used thru undead summons) is already present and light(thru holy powers from monk)

Like I said before elements must not be taken as shooting bolts or beams but as a POWER behind the character skills.
So let me rephrase my question to avoid confusion- What power(new preferably and being among the fictional elements) could be used to make an original 5th class.:)
