it would be cool if you could fight with a whole army on your side, maybe there's a commander telling you what to do at various points - this could either be the holding off monsters quest, or just ppl from the world rallying to fight a common enemy, haha, that'll be nice
I agree with your bit about the result of your actions... hopefully it can affect the story somehow, although they probably have a fixed ending, but maybe how you perform in 1 quest can affect what you have to do in another? Like maybe you fail to rescue some little girl... which causes the demons to turn her into one of them... which forces you to have to kill her in a later quest, but if you rescued her, then you'd have to face some other demon..
Or maybe, if you fail to rescue the blacksmith of the town, you can't buy weapons... or another new blacksmith comes in who sells items at a much higher price...
Yea, i really wanna play D3, but also fear the consequences (social, work-related, etc)... darn.. i hope i can just play it for about 30 mins to an hour a day... but, who am i kidding?..
p/s: LOL, Don_guillotine, nice picture of rabbits, where did u get it?
Core different between DoTA and D3 is that DoTA focuses mainly on eliminating other heroes, while D3 focuses on taking out hordes of monsters.
Yes. I agree. Which is why I tried not to mention skills used in DOTA to specifically kill heroes - like the Butcher's ultimate. I just want them to be a bit more creative, instead of going for very direct attack/defense.
Something like the butcher's hook can be implemented to pull in annoying monsters that just keep running around, or things that you can't reach in time before they transform into stronger versions. Or the ability to make clones of yourself as you attack like Phantom Lancer, which may be quite useful when taking down a horde of monsters. Obviously, that has to be nerfed in some way so that players can't spam it.
But i'd say I like most of what they've shown us, from hundred fists to the time warp to stomp. I just thought maybe show us a couple of things we haven't seen before.
Looking all the d3, skills we've seen thus far, I can't help but think that most of them are just straightforward offensive or defensive skills. Just click this button and the guy lunges forward and deals damage. And that's it. Though I'd say the Wizard's time slow spell is pretty cool.
I think Blizzard can really borrow an idea or 2 from DOTA, or at least try to broaden their scope. For example, in DOTA, heroes have abilities to pull enemies to them, swap positions with enemies, transform, gain the upperhand at night, turn back time, be immaterial or not die for a specific amount of time. Or the ability to hide for a short amount of time and then deal extra damage on 1st strike. Or the ability to take away half of the enemy's life by sacrifice a portion of your own. There are really quite a few concepts they can have a look at.
I really like the concept where two skills can work together. Like some skills which are activated every time a spell is cast (storm spirit, earthshaker). So I can stun everyone around me everytime I cast a spell. Or I can gain some sort of advantage after casting a spell, like being able to freeze an enemy on the next strike.
What concepts would you like to bring to diablo 3 skills?
Quests like The Butcher and Skeleton king were quite iconic in Diablo. I liked them. Nevermind that the Butcher's cleaver wasn't very useful in the end, or leoric's (helm?) was just an early game item, they really lent mood to Diablo. And they were actually quests I felt like doing. Maybe it's because of the intro lines they say, maybe it's how dark and terrifying it was, and also maybe because they were very simple - kill the boss. Anyhow, I thought they were awesome, and I'd love to do a few more of these quests in Diablo 3 - the Siege Breaker fight is definitely going to be memorable if that's one of those quests.
Anyway, sry for the long intro. On to the question:
What do you want in a diablo 3 quest?
I don't like item-fetching, unless it's a really cool item at a place where you fight an awesome boss, like the one in d2 - hell (with the hammer). I don't want to just go kills some pest for some guy. But escorting someone can be fun. Or defending a place for a set amount of time until reinforcements arrive (so you can't kill them all, but u win by surviving). I guess I just don't like tedious quests where you don't know what you're looking for or where it is, but if you're doing something really cool while accomplishing the quest, that'll be fun.
ooo, this brings around another idea. What about blacksmith recipes? So you don't always have to buy items using gold, or maybe not all items are sold using gold, and you have to collect these small parts to make these special items, kinda like the flail with the horadric cube, and maybe for the same item there's a few ways to go about it, which changes look and stats/function
yea, i think the butcher and the skeleton king's quests were more iconic, because.. they were different. It wasn't about the item drops, it was about facing the terror and fighting something worthwhile, and they really add to the mood in diablo. And also the excellent lines delivered. I hope diablo 3 can have more quests like these (obviously they have to reward us in appropriate ways). Hey, elfen, mind if i start a discussion about desired future quests in a new thread?
I don't have a widescreen monitor, but just wondering how diablo 3 will look on widescreen, since I've seen images of games like Warcraft 3 being stretched on widescreens. Tnx.
I know there are quite a few threads about graphics cards, but just want to ask a few simple (but not so easy to answer) questions here:
1. What card range do you think Starcraft 2/Diablo 3 would be in? (ie: is ATI HD 4850/4870 enough, or even more than enough? - enough as in I want to play the game with max graphics, AA, resolution - 19 inch screen)
2. How much difference does 500mb/1gb do? Just wondering if 1gb is overkill, since the games are both from an isometric view.
3. How do CPUs figure into these? I'm probably going quad-core, but just wondering about clock speed. (just say, something above some speed)
4. I think the 5870 is overkill (for diablo 3/starcraft 2). But what say you? I don't play much FPS. Or maybe it's just for enthusiasts?
Haha. Just wondering coz I'm upgrading my com mainly to play these 2 games.
i think in diablo 3, there won't be any support classes per se, but each class will bring their own supporting elements to the table, and collectively, they can share some of the benefits of their skills. As Zoobi has mentioned, each class has something to lend to others. From the time slow bubble of the wizard to the war cry of the barbarian, i think this time around, blizzard is engineering for a game for people to go crazy with their skills, all working together in the fighting, not 4 fighting while 1 stays behind, or even 4 depending on 1 for buffs/debuffs. That's just not fun. You don't want to always need to find a paladin to join your party before you begin quests.
Yea, runes add variety... true... and they really look awesome. Guess if they have the time, and it does add coolness to the game, they can implement the different looks in spell lvls. Coz the game has to be awesome even in the minute details.
Just wondering, been reading here and there, debates about whether there's a zoom function in diablo 3. Wapedia says it has, but I haven't read anything concrete, like comments from players who've played the demo.
Also, is it just a zoom in like a digital zoom in a camera, or can you change angles like in warcraft 3 (though the experience of the game will change slightly, since you're no longer high up)?

Then again, as they said, "gameplay is king"
